INTRODUCTION
Leadership is heart of every business organization, this allows business to manage people and
their effectiveness in the workplace. This report will provide leadership and management and
their importance in the workplace. Later part A of this report will discuss self-awareness and its
importance in career development. Later part B will discuss self-analysis highlighting
professional and positional. At last part C of this report will discuss area of development.
PART A
Definition of self awareness:
Self awareness is one of the most important pillar in life, this help person to remain self
active in identifying personal strength and weakness. This simply means being aware from
different aspects including traits, behaviour and feelings. Self awareness is psychological
concept to become focused, this not only help person to become more active but self awareness
also allow person to explore those areas of opportunity in professional career. There are certain
benefit of developing self-awareness such as:
Leadership: self-awareness is most used tool of a successful leader, they have ability to remain
self active with this process (Northouse, 2021). When a person want to become leader, then they
need to develop self-awareness ability to identify their own strength and weakness. Every
successful leader first develop themselves and others.
Management capabilities: person who tend to develop self-awareness in career development
process have chances to increase their capabilities, both personal and management. Every person
tend to have employability skills which need management capabilities, when a person tend to
develop self-awareness, then they can increase their management capabilities, these capabilities
include; effective management of employee and their performance, management of workplace
performance and management of resources.
Identifying 3 topics and discussing them:
Emotional intelligence: emotional intelligence is effective tool used by every successful
manager who tend to manage business organization and people with emotional touch. This allow
manager to reach people with emotion and connecting with them to understand and demonstrate
their need and motivation (Serrat, 2017). Manager of retail industry need to have sense of
connecting with people of business emotionally and using certain attribute in delivering
emotional intelligence, these attribute include:

Self management: self management means ability to control feelings and behaviour, this help
person to stay concentrated (Sainz, Ferrero and Ugidos, 2019). Manager of retail industry need to
have self management skills to become more capable in managing people and their performance
in the workplace. Every manager knows that if they able to manage their behaviour and action in
the workplace then they can become more effective.
Self awareness: self awareness means understanding personal emotion which influence the
action of a person, when manager decide to use emotional intelligence as their way of managing
people and organization then they have to be self-aware. Manager identify strength and weakness
they have with the help of self awareness tools. As a profession of manager, a person need to
become more confident while using self-awareness tool.
Social awareness: social awareness is crucial pillar of emotional intelligence, manager who tend
to manage people and business organization need to socially connected with employees. It is
very clear that every manager have to interact with the employee and understand their need and
motivation level in the workplace. It is very clear that when manager become socially connected
then they can identify and solve the problem faced by the employee in the workplace.
Relationship management: relationship management means building effective understanding
between manager and employee, it is very clear that manager is socially connected with their
employees which means they also need to manage relationship with every stakeholder of the
company (Kumar and Reinartz, 2018). Manager not only maintain good relationship with
employee, but they also motivate them to become effective and increase productivity. Right use
of emotional intelligence build good relationship between manager and employee.
Leadership and management: leadership is key player in management of business
organization, this allows manager to adopt leadership quality to lead employee and business
organization towards success. Many professionals mainly manager need to have leadership
skills, these skills may include critical decision-making skills, problem solving skills and most
importantly ability to motivate others. Leadership not only help manager to lead people but this
also allow them to develop self-awareness, many business organization adopt various leadership
style to manage their company. Apart from this, leadership is one the most important and
required skills in career and employability, these skills unlock various doors of opportunity to the
person who tend to develop leadership skills. There are certain skills of leaders which can be
adopted by manager to become more effective in the workplace, these are:
