INTRODUCTION
Leadership and management skill are the important aspect that help the organization in
achieving their goals with effectiveness and efficiently. Management not only include managing and
operating the business but also it includes the things like planning, directing and controlling the
workforce and duties in order to smooth operations can be done to the business. Leadership is the
fundamental part of management. In this uncertainty, In order to handle situation a much more
superior way, it is essential that the manager has advanced leadership skills. The given two terms
management and leadership are different but they perform the same work of developing the skills. It
is important for the manger to have leadership quality in order to influence individual in performing
their work and gain competitive advantages in the market area of rapid growing world
(Buhagiar and Anand, 2021).
It is difficult for the person to function well if the individual have only leadership skills but
not the management skills. The manager also face difficulty in acquiring the result if leadership
skills does not present in him. The study tells that, the organization can not succeed if there is no
management as well as leadership skills present. Due to lack of these skills, manager are not able to
respond to the uncertain problems in an effective manner. In this report, the organization selected in
order to see how managers has transform their management and leadership skills and there skills
helps in motivating the employees and enhance their performance is Tesco. Tesco is a public
limited retailing company which was founded in 1919 in united kingdom by jack Cohen. It
diversified its businesses in electronics ,clothing sector ,financial services and internet service
sector. It has its headquarter situated in Welwyn garden, England. The diversification into many
areas is considered as the important factor that helps in possessing the leadership as well as
management skills(Butler, 2020).

There are different leadership theory that need to apply by the manager is followed as-
 Contingency theory- This theory states that there is not one leadership style for every
situation, but that the overall situation must be solved by other leadership qualities(Cole,
2018). One researcher who is white and Hodgson says that "effective leadership is about
maintaining the right balance of needs, context, and behaviour." Therefore, the leader must
choose the right course of action based on the problem he is facing. Each single motivation
is hike by the applicable of style which is appropriate with their issues. The things which
was applied in the past can't be applied in the present. In aim of becoming the best leader,
the individual must acquire all the styles(De Vries and Wolbink, 2018).
 Situation leadership theory- The theory was proposed by Paul Hersey and Ken Blanchard.
The situational leadership theory is somehow related to above contingency theory. This
theory states that there is different types of styles not a single one that is good. Alternatively
type of leadership and strategies are made-up according to the foremost appropriate project.
It is also called the two factor theories because the leader required to concentrate on two
factors of project behaviour and relationship behaviour. The main difference between the
contingency and situational leadership theory is that the leader style should match the right
condition in the contingency theory whereas situational leadership theory reasoned that
leader should evaluate his style according to the situation(Golensky and Hager, 2020).
 Transformational leadership theory- the theory is also named as relationship theory. As it
says that the leader must focus on maintaining the good relationship with the leaders and
their followers. The theory state that the leader must have the charismatic and inspirational
personality that can helps in encouraging the followers so that the task can be performed in
much better way by them. The team performance and the performance of the individual both
are focused by the leaders so that the leader can motivate them in performing their work to
achieve the goals with full potential. This practice can helps in sharpening the knowledge
and skills of the individual(Johnson and Smith, 2018).
 Transactional theory- Transaction theory is also known as management theory or exchange
theory. The action used by the manager to motivate the employee is to reward and punish
them based on their performance. The focus of this practice is that it revolves around the
role of the manager, organization and teamwork in the company. Many large organizations
are adopting this theory as a fundamental skill because the actions they take can boost the
morale of many employees(Jones, 2018).

 Great man theory of leadership- This is the oldest theory. The theory says that the leaders
are born rather than made. Charming, confidence, communication, personality sills and few
more are the qualities of the leaders. The given qualities are present from the birth but they
are realised after some time.
Key performance metrics of organizational sector/market/industry
Key performance metrics are those elements of the administration that indicate what the
wants of the company to achieve and how long it will take to achieve success. In this way, the
company acquire about its results so that it can achieve its goals and objectives. In this report, Tesco
is the chosen company to see how management and leadership skills help it in its overall
performance. Tesco is a retail company providing grocery services to customers. The Tesco as
diversified there area of business in various departments like finance, fashion and many more. The
company uses the company flyer to measure its key performance indicator, but now the company
replaces this strategy with the six KPIs. The company has more than 6,500 branches and around
475,000 employees. The financial, customers and operations are known as the top key performance
matrices of the company. The KPIs are given as sales, profit, operating cash flow, customer
recommendation, colleague recommend and trusted partnership(Liu and Hallinger, 2018).
To maintain the focus on the things that matters to the company rather than the other things,
the company has reduced its key performance. As compared to other indicators the steering wheel is
much complex in reducing the complexity of the company. Tesco is a food processing company
based in the United Kingdom. the given six KPIs need to be cautiously communicated by Tesco to
gain acceptance and engagement across the business. The company's Key Performance Indicators
are quantitatively measured to allow the company to measure its performance. compete against
challenger and then apply some leadership and management skills in organization in an effective
manner. To make sure about its theories and skills, the company calculate the key performance on
the annual bases so as to make surety(Megheirkouni and Mejheirkouni, 2020).

The leaders of the organization apply their skills according to the golden rules so that they can be
successful in their role and lead the workforce better. It is becoming increasingly important that
Tesco leaders and managers embrace change and begin to use their leadership and managerial skills

new things and innovate the skills and knowledge. They also believe their power isn't a position, but
a way they use to addition their productiveness and then improve their sales and profits.

that they can apply that idea in the business in order to achieve the set goals and objectives. The
potential to make unparalleled success that enhance the business has developed the effective and

team is targeting. So, as a leader, it is the duty to tell the employee what needs to be done to
achieve the bottom line. As a manager, you must ensure that all resources are managed and
controlled. As a result, Tesco leaders and managers execute their skills better so they don't
have to step back to manage their organization's performance. This helps in making

employees on track and task to acquire goals. This allow the whole team of various
department to be focused towards their goals and objectives(Viera and Kramer, 2020).
 Increase sales- the manager and leader implementing and adopting different types of
strategy that helps the company in increasing the sales. The leadership theory acquire by the
leaders is known as the consistency theory. By using this theories Tesco solves the business
operations problems and increase the employees morale according to the situation arrived.
The manager made everything on time can be called as time management by using theory of
behaviours. Tesco sales and valuation increases by these skills over the passing time. . Over
time, they also review the employee's performance and then use the theories that best fit that
particular person or condition.
Hence, it is very essential for the business to acquire the management and leadership skills(Rofuth
and Piepenbring, 2019).

motivate their employees, and managers know where training and development needs are. Both the
manager and leader contribute a big part of knowledge in making the Tesco a multinational
company and helps in expanding the business into the different sectors of the organization.
The leader has the best communication skills so that they can motivate the employees and
increase there potential of work. The manager and the leader development are considered as the key
for the growth of the company. Those leaders and managers who do not have the skills where they
are compelling, they can rule others, they have impressive communication skills, then this
administration is not in a place where they can hold up with the uncertainness that develop during
their operations. The manager and leader helps the business to survive in an changing environment
premise. It has also been concluded that manager is crucial part of the organization whether it is a
small enterprises or the large one.
