INTRODUCTION
The concept of both leadership as well as management plays a crucial role in an
organisation and are interlinked with one another but are having different aspects in order to

Care Ltd. is an health care organisation within UK that is taken into consideration for
demonstrating different aspects of this presentation. This presentation includes leadership and
management theories along with their challenges in the health and social care sector. It also
includes examination of the influencing factors on the performance of staff and main factors that
are contributing to the job satisfaction. There will be an analysis on role of performance
management in the success of healthcare organisation. This report will also consists of an
analysis of various models of team leadership as well as its application to the health and social
sector. Moreover, there will be an evaluation on the roles of teams and benefits of having teams
within health and social care sector.

1.1 Analyse key leadership and management theories
Behavioural theory of leadership:
Such kind of leadership and management theory states that the success of a leader is on
the basis of its behaviours rather than its natural attributes and along with it, this also includes
observation as well as an evaluation of the activities and behaviours of leaders at the time when
they are responding to particular situation. The leaders of Treetops Care Ltd can know and
decide that what operations and behaviour in health and social care sector they are required to
execute in the process of their leadership to become an effective leader. This theory within the
respective sector helps in addressing the interactions of human at work.
Contingency Theory of leadership:
It is also known as situational theory and states that the effectiveness of a leader is
contingent on the basis that whether their leadership style suits a specific situation or not. As per
this type of leadership and management theory, a person can become an effective leader in one
situation while an ineffective in the other situation (Mahida, 2016). In relation to Treetops Care
Ltd, such kind of theory concentrates on the importance of the personality of a leader as well as
the situation in which a leader within this health and social care sector operates. This theory will

facilitates the leaders or managers of Treetops Care Ltd in shaping their leadership style
according to the demand of the particular circumstance.
Scientific theory of Management:
This kind of theory facilitates in synthesizing as well as analysing the workflow in the
organisation and the key purpose of this type of theory is to improve and enhance the level of
productivity along with the efficiency of the staff of a company and economy. Managers within
Treetops Care Ltd can use this kind of management theory as it will provide assistance to them
in the promotion of the specialising, standardising, great training of the staff as well as
supervision and assignments which are on the basis of the ability within health and social care
sector. This type of management theory will facilitate Treetops Care Ltd in improving the level
of operational activities as it focuses on the rapid increment within the operations of the business.

There are various challenges of leadership and management within the health and social
care sector and some of these challenges are described as below:
Reimbursement: There are tremendous pressures to bring down the cost of the
healthcare and the businesses as well as the government are seeking the approaches in
order to minimise the cost of healthcare (Kogler, Mittone and Kirchler, 2016). Models of
reimbursements are changing and are shifting from a fee-for-service based model to a
model which is based on the performance. It means that the providers can no longer count
on the revenues through simply offering the single services within the health and social
care sector.
Challenges related to Healthcare Policy: There is an intense degree of uncertainty with
respect to the Affordable Care Act and it had a tremendous influence on the insurance
markets. Such uncertainty has made the health and social care sector reluctant to expand.
With the enrolment as well as healthcare policy being in constant flux, they have had no
options available but to abandon the markets or increase premiums.
