INTRODUCTION Leadership means ability of influencing the members of the company. It helps the company to make the better decisions. A company should have good and effective leader having self-confidence, good communication and managerial skills. This report will outline the meaning of statements of different author. Further, it will outline the different leadership style and approaches that is seen in today's corporate world. Further it will also evaluate Marriott hotel's organizational policies and diversity policies. MAIN BODY Evaluation of the statements given by different authors “Management is doing the things right; leadership is doing the right things.” Peter F Ducker In the above stated statement the author is making difference between the management and leadership as leadership is a type of skill by which the person can lead the others. Leaders have power to influence their followers and to encourage them for the successful growth of the organization. Leadership is formulated by the guidelines and the principles that must be followed by the members of the company. On the other hand, management is a type of art to manage the things and resources for the smooth flow of the organization. It rules the company and brings the stability in the environment. It is formulated by the policies and long procedures that is followed by whole organization. The only safe ship in a storm is leadership.”Faye Wattleton Leadership is a skill which has ability to influence the members or followers of the company. This statement is stating that the leaderships safest in the company. A leadership is only safe when it is properly done by excluding personal safety of leader. A good leader always influences and appraise their followers for better working. Good leadership helps the company to manage the better working of the organization. But sometimes leadership became very critical as to manage and distribute work to different members is hard for the leader as continuous contact is required on each member. By this leader can't get proper feedback from its members. Various leadership styles and approaches that can be seen in today's world:
In the current competitive environment, for the businesses to be successful it is essential that they undertake the proper leadership styles. Thus, the various types of leadership styles which can be applicable in the modern business world is as follows- Participatory Leadership: In this type of leadership style everyone has right to participate in the decision-making. This leadership style shares the skilled knowledge in the company. Members and employees of the company feel engaged in decision-making. As every person has its creative mind so it helps the company to get creative and innovative ideas. It is also called democratic leadership style as in this everyone is motivated to and encouraged to take part in decision made by the company and This style has some advantages like all the persons having values of their ideas, it increases the morale of the company, new and better ideas can be given by members, it reduces the competition in the company etc. However, this style has some drawbacks like many ideas leads to confusion, it also takes more time to listen everyone's ideas, it is less used where employees are unskilled, poor-decision making by the unskilled members etc. Situational Leadership: This leadership style is most flexible. Style of leadership. As per the situations leaders can change their leadership style for fulfilling the changing needs of the environment. If the company is not satisfied with the taken style it can change the leadership style as per its requirements.The key feature of this style is adaptability as leaders can adapt itself in the changing situation. The advantages of this leadership style is it maintains the flexibility, creates the good environment for the leaders, etc. with this it has drawbacks also like it could create the confusion within the company as it changes rapidly. Authoritarian Leadership: In this style of leadership decision-making is done by an individual. It is used when the company requires clear and better ideas. In this leadership style the principle of unity of command is followed which means there is only one boss in the company.As decision making is done by only an individual so this style is less adopted by the company. It has some advantages like it takes less time in decision-making, unity of command is followed, gives better and great results to the company etc. It has some disadvantages like it diminish the creativity of the employees, less participation in group decision, sometimes it also leads to employee’s rebellion etc. Free-Rein Style or Laissez Faire Style: In this style of leadership employees are free to take the decisions. As a result of this discussion, proper decision will be taken and the intended outcome will be attained. The reason pertaining to the fact is that when any problem is there then the first thing which company must undertake is the discussion on the problem. The reason underlying this fact was that when people will discuss the problem then this will result in finding more solution and to resolve the problem effectively(Northouse, 2021). This is beneficial because of the reason that when the company will discuss its issues then this will result in analyzing views of different people and all people have their own perception and as a result of this problem will be solved in good and effective manner. This relates with the leadership style of democratic wherein the leader asks for the views and suggestion of others. Though the decision making power is in hands of the leader but the views and suggestion are taken from all the employees involved within the working. This is a good technique as each and every person is having different thinking and this will provide knowledge relating to many aspect of the problem. Hence, this will outline the good and creative solution to the company and problem can be solved effectively. Organizational culture and diversity policies of the Marriott international Handy's four types of organizational cultures is developed by Charles Handy in 1999. This model represents the four types of organizational culture that are the power culture, the role culture, the task culture and personal culture. Marriott international company is the multinational company that provides licensing and franchise and also includes hotels and residencies. Marriott company follows the role culture organizational culture of Handy's model. This organizational culture is best as it has high degree of formalization as well as high degree of centralization. This
organizational culture is set up of great procedures and policies. This culture is best for the cited company because it gives exactly what the employees expect for. The employees must follow the rules and procedures made by the company. There is a well-defined hierarchy which makes easier to understand the policies of the company. The followed culture by the cited company helps the employee’s security and opportunity to acquire special knowledge, enhance their performance up to an appropriate scale etc. the cited company is result oriented that is the reason the company follow this organizational culture. The company must also focus on the drawback of this organizational culture. Some drawbacks of this organizational culture are like they are less adaptive and does not change with the environment. As the cited company is a multinational company so it a big issue for the company to that it has inability to adapt changes in the environment. Along with theculture,thereisalso good impactof leadershipon the diversity management. The reason pertaining to the fact that diversity management is being defined as efforts made by leaders to hire and recruit diverse talent within the company. this is very crucial for the company as in case the company will not be having good and diverse employees and workforce, then this will impact quality of work. Thus, in this case leadership is essential because leader knows which type of employees will be good for the company. hence, it is very essential for leaders of Marriott to analyse the requirement of the company and then work accordingly to hire the employees(Kolenda, 2021). The leader of Marriott continuously monitors the requirement of the company and its working and analyzing requirement of employees. Hence,forthisMarriottleaderidentifiesthevariousresourceswhichareimportantfor organizing diversity program. This is very essential for the reason that when the resources will be available to the company then they will be effective in hiring new and relevant employees within the company. with help of organizing of diversity program the company can invite large number of people to come to company and apply for the vacant position. Along with this there are different strategies for diversity management which the leaders can use for effective management of business operations. The most common strategy assistive for leader of Marriott is the setting of diversity goals and metrics. This is very important strategy because of the reason that when the goals are already being set then this will guide the leader to work in that direction(bin Abdullah, 2021). In addition to this, another key strategy for leaders is to implement effective training system within the company. the reason underlying this fact is that
business operates in external environment and there are many different changes being taking place. Hence, as a result of this, training need to be given to the employees so that they can manage and learn the new things. Hence, with this it can be stated that for Marriott effective use of leadership is very important. The reason underlying this fact is that when the effective leadership will be applied to the business then this will provide guidance to the company and employees that how work need to be done. Thus, it will increase the motivation level of the employees and they will work in proper and effective manner to attain the business objectives. Moreover, it is also true that the use of good leadership is also assistive in proper management of the culture (Gümüsay, 2021). The reason underlying this fact is that when the leader will clearly define all the roles and responsibilitythenthiswillresultinmaintenanceofgoodculture.Inadditiontothis, maintenance of good culture will result in employees being happy and satisfied within this working and as a result of this will work in proper and effective manner. CONCLUSION The above report inferred that leadership is being defined as act through which leader motivates and stimulates other people to work to achieve some common goal. For the success of the company, it is necessary that proper leadership is being present within the company. the leaders of the company guides employees and direct them to work in coordination to attain same goal. The above report evaluated that there is different perspective of leadership. also it was evaluated that there is different leadership style applicable in modern world like participatory, situational and others. Also, it was examined that leadership plays a great role in management of culture of company and effective diversity management as well.
