Chapter 1: Introduction
Background of topic:
Leadership is a crucial activity that is related with guiding, leading as well as influencing
the followers in an efficient manner. It is a quality to influence the behavior of others. Leaders
are the key person of a business as they can affect the behavior of other people profoundly. For
success of an organization, there are various ways of leadership are adopted (Glatthorn and et.
al., 2018). In context of the present study, Sainsbury is taken into consideration that is a
renowned retail organization. It has a team of efficient leader who guide and support the workers
at each and every stage. The present study will discuss different types of leadership and its
impact on the performance of the employees. Further, it will also cover different challenges
associated with the leadership.
Significance of the Topic: In current time, leadership is one of the emerging aspects
which has great significant from business perspective. The present research topic will help in
identifying suitable ways of leadership for the betterment of the entire company.
Purpose of research: Leadership is an art of influencing others. Here, leaders provide
guidance and support to the employees constantly so that they can grow in career. The present
study aims to select the best suitable way of leadership and necessary challenges associated with
the leadership aspect.

Chapter 2: Literature review
Different leadership styles
According to Becker, 2021, In current time, there are different ways are adopted by the
leaders in order to manage the workforce. These styles of leadership affect the behavior of
employees at work place and also put a direct impact on the overall productivity and profitability
of the company. In this context, various styles of leadership are given below:
Autocratic: In this, leader provided command to the employee and they are required to
follow those commands. Leaders generally take decision with little or no input from team
members. Currently, this is considered as the less effective or inappropriate leadership style
wherein suggestions or advice of team members is not considered significant (Bhaduri, 2019).
Democratic: Democratic leaders are likely to take suggestions from the workforce. They
share necessary information to the team members and welcome their suggestions during decision
making. Basically, it is a participative leadership style which helps in promoting team sprit and
cooperative behavior among team members. In addition to this, it facilitates creativity and allows
the opportunities to the employees of development & growth.
Coaching: In this, leaders provide guidance to the team members at every stage. They
not only delegate the task to the employees but also provide them necessary assistance to
complete those tasks in timely manner. A coaching leader gives necessary direction to the people
to use their ability with utmost potential (Jia and et. al., 2018).
