Introduction
This report aims to discuss the legal and the ethical issues of the project of digital
forensic experiment of the application, Instagram with the android mobile phone. The ethical
issues connected to the extracting of the data from mobile phone is briefly discussed in this
report. Lastly, this report concludes with an appropriate conclusion for the report.
In the present times, the use of the mobile devices and the applications of the mobile
devices is increasing at a significant rate. There are several situations where there is a
requirement of extracting information using forensic methods (Del Corro and Gemulla 2013).
Some situations are considered to be ethical if there is a fulfilment of a greater purpose but if
the forensic examination is done for any other situation it could be considered to be unethical.
Discussion
In the rapidly evolving world of the digital forensics, there is an increase in the use of
the forensics for extracting information from the mobile devices. These methods raises a
significant amount of legal and unethical issues when it is used by a suspicious user for
exploiting the applications on the mobile phones for gaining information and then use the
information for personal gains (Yao and Van Durme 2014). There are several kinds of
information on the mobile devices like the political, religious and the sexual identity and the
movement of every user. The sensitivity of the data that is stored in the mobile devices and
the applications are significant and the wrong user with the malicious intent could exploit this
information for personal gain. In the recent times, the amount of information that any
individual carry with themselves is much higher than the time when the promulgation of the
PACE or Police and Criminal Act 1984 happened (Chiticariu, Li and Reiss 2013). Under this
act, the police could seize, search and then retain the data from any mobile phone that
belongs to any individual and who has been arrested on the suspicion of offence committing
