5LEGAL AND PROFESSIONAL ISSUES IN NURSING Workshops I have attended a workshop related to the nursing practice and it was a professional course. In this workshop, I have mainly learnt about the importance of hand hygiene, vital signs of various disease, bedding, communicating with the patients, clearing a dead body and also the procedure of administrating the medicines. I have learnt about the subcutaneous, intravascular injection. 4.Reflection on an incident happened in the Aged care home In this section, I would like to reflect on an incident that I experienced in the Aged care home.Gibb’s reflective framework has been used for reflecting by first starting with description of the event and then evaluating the event to plan future course of action (Husebø, O'Regan & Nestel, 2015).After finishing my diploma in beauty and skin care in 2014, I joined my first job on 22ndFebruary,2016. I was very much excited about the job as it was my first job. I joined in aged care center as I have joined in the bachelor degree course of nursing. I have joined in this aged care as this experience of taking care of the elderly people will help me in giving care to the patients. On the first day of joining, it was quite normal day and Iwas introduced to all of my colleagues and all the wards were shown to me. I joined there to help the older people in their activities of daily life for instance helping them in personal care, help them in their transport. I used help them in their shopping too. I love the work very much as I got chance to communicate with lots of people in that aged care.I used to talk with them and try to make them very much comfortable so that they can say their problem. They also loved to talk with me. Suddenly one
6LEGAL AND PROFESSIONAL ISSUES IN NURSING day, I found that one old lady was on the floor and she is crying in loud voice. I tried to help her in standing but I failed. Then, with the help of the other people, I succeeded lift her up. She had severe pain in her ankle and that area was warm andthere was swelling in that region.I gave her primary care and triedto communicate with her. In communication, I discovered that, she tried to go outside and that time she had that fall and I discovered that, she had a previous chronic pain in her knee joint due to arthritics. Then I told her to take rest and continuously tried to motivate her as she had no hope about her life. She lost her husband two years ago and her son had brought her in this aged care center. After this incident, I was very much upset for her condition but I concealed my feelings. This incident of the age care center had motivated me to pursue my carrier in the health care sector and I chose the option of being a registered nurse and planned to complete the one year online course in emergency nursing. The experience of that day in the age care drove me towards the course of emergency nursing so that in future, if there is any kind of mishap I can handle that with my knowledge.
