CE 3.2 Organizational Background
Larsen & Toubro Limited or simply L&T is one of the most popular and leading
multinational organizations of construction. The head quarter of this organization is in
Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. In the year 1944, this company was incorporated by partners.
This organization has various organizational interests in construction, engineering, financial
services, information technology and many more. In December 1950, Larsen & Toubro
Limited became completely public company that had a paid up capital of 31,000 dollars. The
joint venture of this organization operates as LTS 3000, which is a crane vessel for the
purpose of pipe laying and heavy lifting. Larsen & Toubro Limited is the most famous
construction firms in India.
CE 3.3 Project Background
CE 3.3.1 Characteristics of the project
This project of Magdalla Housing Complex was first project of my engineering
career. I was a part of this project for four months when I was in eighth semester. The name
of the site of this project is Magdalla Housing Complex, Larsen & Toubro and the project

was located in Larsen & Toubro, Magdalla Housing Complex, Dumas Road, Surat. The
owner of this project was Larsen & Toubro and the contractor was Viral Builders. This
project mainly comprised of a High Rise Residential Blocks for L&T staffs and employees.
The building was of 12 stories and it had a basement and a ground floor. The total area of this
project was 29152.62 square metres. For the block number E-10, the built up area was
5153.47 square metres and the FSI area was 4383.05 square metres. For the block number E-
11, the built up area was 5153.47 square metres and FSI area was 4383.05 square metres. for
the block number of C-1, the built up area was 5191.02 square metres and FSI area was
4316.63 square metres. The final block number was C-2, and the built up area was 5191.02
square metres; whereas FSI area was 4316.63 square metres. The total cost of this type
building was around 25,25,89,069 INR. The consulting services of this particular project
were extremely important for the project. The soil testing was done by Bhumi Research
Centre, Majura Gate, Surat. The structural design of this project of Magdalla Housing
Complex was done by Technocrates Consultant and the architect of this project was Mr.
Ashok Desai.
CE 3.3.2 Objectives developed for the project
The project of Magdalla Housing Complex comprises of two significant objectives.
These objectives are as follows:
To develop High Rise residential blocks for the staffs and employees of Larsen &
Toubro.
To develop the basement, ground floor and all the twelve storeys.
CE 3.3.3 My area of work
This project of Magdalla Housing Complex mainly comprised of a high rise
residential blocks. The various parts of this building were basement, ground floor and twelve

storeys. I was appointed as a civil engineering trainee in this project after I cracked the
interview of Larsen & Toubro Limited. There were various projects going on and I was
placed at the extension project of Magdalla Housing Complex. As this was my first big and
professional project, I required constant training and my main area of work was the detailed
study of construction of any residential building or apartment. Documentation was my second
area of work and I was happy that I was able to complete it perfectly.

CE 3.3.5 My responsibilities throughout the project
I was involved in this particular project for four months and therefore learned various
new and interesting things in the total period. I was working for fifty-four hours in a week
and had various important responsibilities in the project. My first responsibility was the
detailed study of construction of residential apartments and buildings. My next responsibility
