The major ethical issues in conducting research are (Roberts, 2015):
Informed consent
Beneficence
Anonymity and Confidentiality
In order to avoid the ethical issues while conducting a research, it is necessary to:
Informed consent: When conducting a research, people participate in the research as
sample participants. It becomes important for the researchers to inform the people
participating in the research about the procedures and also their consent should be taken
before involving them in the research.
Beneficence: The research should follow the principle of beneficence which means that
the researchers should conduct a research that does not harms others but deliver an output
that will focus on the improvement of the welfare of the community.
Respect for anonymity and confidentiality: This ethical issue is highly related to the
rights of beneficence, which refers to the respect for the dignity and fidelity.
There are certain ethical standards from the Belmont report (1979) which will help in the
protection of the human subjects participating in the research study for the improvements in
health and welfare (Parasidis, Pike & McGraw, 2019).
Respecting people is one ethical standard which states that people should be treated
as autonomous components and also people who have a constrained autonomy should
be provided with protection.
