INTRODUCTIONOperations and management are two terms of operations management. Operationsmanagement deals with designing and controlling the process of production. It is also relatedwith administration of different operations of a company to achieve highest level of efficiency inthe working of business. It requires the management of production of goods and services.Unilever is a British-Dutch company headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra. It was establishedin 1933 as Lever Brothers. It deals in foods, cleaning agents, personal care products etc. TheReport will emphasize on different roles of a leader and a manager, how the role of leader andmanager applies in organizational context. The Report will further explain different theories ofapproach, importance of operations management in achieving business objectives and factorsthat impact the decision making of leader and manager. TASK 1P1) Different roles and characteristics of a leader and a manager.Leader- A leader is an important part of an organization. Leader plays an important role inguiding the subordinates and gives the direction to their efforts in achieving organizationalobjectives. Also helps in influencing the employees through proper communication. Manager- Management means, getting the work done from others at right time. Manager of thecompany is responsible for performing all the managerial functions. It is an activity that aims to co-ordinates the efforts of employees to achieve organisational goals. BASIS OF DIFFERENCELEADERMANAGER1) Leading and directingLeader of Unilever plays animportant role in describingthe purpose of working in agroup to their team members.And gives the direction to theefforts of subordinates toachieve organizational goalseffectively and efficiently.First of all leader allocates thework to all the team membersthen, supervises them forManager of Unilever plays animportant role in planing,recruitment and selection ofsuitable team members. Manager collects feedbackfrom leader of the team thentakes corrective actions toimprove the performance ofsubordinates (Ivanov, 2017). Senior Manager of Unilever isresponsible to delegate

better performance. Leaderalso helps to resolve theconflicts among subordinates. authority and responsibility toother departmental managers2) Development of creativityLeader of the company allowsthe participation of teammembers in various activitiesthat helps in developingcreative ideas. Also helps thesubordinates in bringingchange in operations of thecompany. Manager of the Unilever helpsthe company in identifying theopportunities of improvementin services to customers. Alsohelps in leading the changeinitiatives within theorganization.3) Motivation and self-developmentLeader of Unilever helps inidentifying and developingdifferent ways of motivatingthe team members. Like, byproviding authority to work.Leader helps in improving theskills of employees byimplementing mentoring andcoaching programmes that arerequired for betterperformance of the employees.Manager of the companydelegates responsibility andauthority to employees that areworking at various levels ofthe organization and also usesdifferent motivationaltechniques to motivate theemployees. 4) Operational EfficiencyLeader of the company helpsin development of ways inwhich operational efficiencyand effectiveness of teammembers can be improved.Leader also play an importantrole in managing team's fundsto perform various functions ofthe company. Manager of Unilever plays animportant role in optimumutilisation of resources of thecompany. Different ways inwhich operational efficiencycan be improved are byimplementing standard costingtechniques, budgetingtechnique etc.
