INTRODUCTIONLeaders and managers are essential part of business unit , they both contribute well inmanaging people in organisation. Operation management (OM) can be defined as process ofmanaging operational activities and controlling over these practices. It is considered as one of theimportant part of business unit that aids the organisation in raising productivity and enhancingprofit of company to great extent. OM is the effective tool that helps in effective utilisation ofresources and minimising the cost of operations to great extent (Wild, 2017). Present study isbased on Amazon Inc., It is a multinational technology firm which sale its products and servicesthrough e-commerce and cloud computing platforms. Current assignment will explain role ofleader and manager and will compare characteristics of both. Furthermore, study will describerole and function of leaders and managers in different situations. It will explain differentapproaches of operation management and importance of OM in business. In addition, report willillustrate various factors that impact on operational efficiency of the organisation.LO 1P1 Comparison of role and characteristics of leader and managerAmazon is a leading firm that is engaged in e-commerce business. It was founded in year1994. Initially it started selling book through online platform but now firm is selling all kind ofproducts to consumers across the world. In the year 2018 it has generated profit of 232.887billion and its operating income was 12.421 billion (Wu, 2016).It implements flat organisational structure, it involves workers in decision makingprocess and take suggestions from those. This type of management structure aids the firm inretaining skilled workers in the firm for longer duration.Leader is the person who has responsibility to lead the team and influence the behaviour ofgroup members in order to accomplish organisational goal. On other hand, manager is the personwho has responsibility to manage things and train people so that they can contribute well inachieving goal of business unit (Okuno, Kobayashi and Ishii, 2016). There is huge differencebetween role and characteristics of leader and manager.
