INTRODUCTION Management is the administration of organization or a business. This department handles the organization but operation department of the company handles the business practices of company to improve the performance. Operation department is more concerned about the business activities with in company. This report is explaining management department of Google. Google is large size multinational organization which is providing the largest search engine and software facility to customers. Report is explaining the difference of roles and characteristics of manager and leader. This study gives brief about the function of leader and manager in different situation. Report is explaining different theories and models of approaches for situational leadership, system leadership and contingency (Chiu and Lo, Western Digital Technologies Inc, 2016). The report is consisted of key approaches of the operation management and role that leader and management plays. This report is giving importance of operation and management to achieve business objective. The report is assessing the factors that have impact on the business environment. ACTIVITY 1 Roles and characteristics of leader and manager in an organisation The leader is a person who is able to influencegroup ofpeople to achieve predefined goal. Leader is a person who leads team and set an example for their team members. The position of leader needs deep commitment to complete the goal (Johnstone, 2016). Roles and responsibilities of leader Set Vision The main role of a leader is to set a vision for group to complete the goal which is allocated by Google. The leader makes team aware of the company goals and procedure or approach which will be followed by team to accomplished goal. This is the responsibility of leader to keep team focused and aware of individual role to complete task provided by Google (Flake, Western Digital Technologies Inc, 2017.). Form Structure and Maintain Communication To maintain effective communication withinteam, is also part of role of the leadership. team leader conducts team meetings to solve the issues with in team by setting the proper communication protocol. Become an effective role model for team is important to motivate and encourage them to perform better. If group leader is not behaving good with group and being 1
rude to team can affect the behavior of members and it can harm the working performance of group. So to behave and perform in most important for team leader to encourage team members. Inspire and Motivate It is the most important role of the leader to keep team motivated and inspired to work and perform. As a team leader the goal completion is the responsibilities and it is important to keep team motivated and inspired to work and perform better. Delegate and Empower A good leader surround themselves with people to achieve better leadership. This helps team leader to complete the goals effectively. By the empowerment and delegation of team is required most to achieve the goals which are set by Google. Time Management Time management within the is the basic need to complete the goal with in the time limit or deadline. By the effective time management in team. If the work and goals are not achieved by team it will reduce the efficiency of company. Time management helps team to set target with the particular time limit. This is role of the leader and this is also personal quality of the individual.Timemanagementmakesthetimelydeliveredperformancemorecrucialand important. Facilitator A good facilitator can become the good team leader. By this behavior team leader makes the good arrangements with in team. This is helpful for members to complete their work with efficiency. The optimization of problems can be achieved by this skill which improves the performance of team. Task Allocation In team different tasks are assigned to team members by leader. On the higher level in the Google the work division is conducted by the leadership. Through this the different teams are assigned with the respected task to complete with in the time limit. It is important to assign the task as per the personal qualification of the particular team or the person. Confidence This is thebest quality of leader and it is basic need for position of leadership. This quality of leader energized the whole team and improve energy level of individual. Respect the feelings of the group This is the most essential quality of person to become a team leader. This quality makes team members more reliable towards leader. This quality improves trust and belief of individual member in leader. This thing makes team more effective and work as a team. This improves the performance of individual and team. In this quality, leader treats each team member fairly regarding to the reward management. Roles and Characteristics of Manager For the post of the manager there are some roles which has to follow. Roles of person helps him to manage the work of Google. These roles are as follows- Organizer This is main role of manager in google. The manager is person who is head of department or team. For this role the person has to manage operation of particular department. The manager is person who is responsible for controlling or administrating the organisation or a group. team manager is person who is in charge of the different groups who are performing different tasks (Morschett, Schramm-Klein and Zentes, 2015). Strong Leadership This is one of important role of manager to play as leader and take responsibilities of team which is following him. The person is in charge of team or department. So manager have work like leader (Pierce, and Wolchyn, Gps Systems International Pty Ltd, 2018.). Liaison In this role the manager have to interface with the internal and external persons of the google to maintain the continuity performance. This role of manager helps to keep organisation or the department running. This role decides success or failure of the person as manager. Manager have to interface with others to develop the new policies and projects. Monitor As the manager, it is the important role to monitor the operation and work of team members. This role helps the person to maintain the operation of the department and helps him to take the decision about the department. In this role the manager have to organize the work of the Google by monitoring of the departmental function (Thomas, Deblecker and Ioakimidis, 2018.). Public Speaker This role of manager is leads to the public speaking. As a manager it is the responsibility of the person to aware of the google policies and new changes in the procedure and operation of the company. In this role manager speaks to team member to deliver the information. Disturbance Handler The manager ishead of body or department. This the responsibility of the person to resolve the problem or the disturbance in the department. To improve the efficiency of the department and keep the work of the organisation going on. 4
Resource Allocator Manager is the head of department so it responsibility to allocate resources to different departments. The arrangement of the resources is done by manager. Negotiator The manager is person who deals with the employees and other resource providers to make negotiation about the work. This role allows manager helps to final the deals for the good of company. Characteristics of Manager Strong Leadership The manager is the head of the department and to manage the working of team the leader ship skills are most required. These skills help him to manager the operation much better of the organisation (Zhao, Zhang and Wang, 2018). Experience As a manager, it is needs to take important decision to keep Google's department running. For this manager need to have knowledge of working and operation of company this can help him to work more efficiently. This experience improves the performance of manager. Good Communication The good communication helps person to make other person aware of information. This helps to make good understanding between employees and manager. Good communication makes the conversation effective and this lead to good implementation of ideas and information. Knowledge In any business,knowledge is the most important thing. Manager will take the decision for employees about their work load and tries to convince the employees to work according to the new work load. The approach of leader will be participating. The leader may try to make the new plan to reduce the work load by taking the employees in the decision making.
