In addition to this application of these role and function as per the different situations is mentioned in this assignment. Other than this, understanding of relationship between leadership and management in order to gain business objectives in included in this report. TASK 1 P1 Definition and comparison of different roles and characteristics of a leader and a manager Marks and Spencer is a leading company and was established in the year 1884, major area in which firm deals are clothings, household products and retail. People who are working in M&S are around 84,939 which are large in number and playing their part in providing company with profits by dealing with customers in an appropriate manner. There are different kind of management structure that can be followed by company but Marks and Spencer has adopted Flat Organisational Structure which is explained below for better understanding: Flat Organisational Structure of Management:Management structure depends upon the nature of business that is going in an organisation thus, in context with Marks and Spencer, they have incorporated flat structure of management, under which no level in the management system is present and between superiors and employees as well. Therefore, while decision making it becomes quick as they doesn't have to wait for the approval of executives(Chiarini and Vagnoni, 2015).
