Answer to Question 1
Analysis of the Overall Issue or Problem in the Case
The main issue which has been noticed in the respective case study is related to the usage
of the autocratic leadership style of the Chancellor Nicholas Dirks. It was being seen that he
never involved his subordinates during the process of decision-making that led to the entire crash
of the College of Chemistry which was founded by him. In addition, it led to the replacement of
Nicholas Dirks with Carol T Christ and it impacted the morale of Nicholas Dirks in a negative
manner. There was no such offering of the professional ownership and it created the work culture
which was decided by the leader that was related to dependence of the subordinates on the
leaders who are present in the college (Harms et al. 2018). Therefore, the usage of the autocratic
leadership style was the main problem which was faced by the students in the college under the
leadership of Chancellor Nicholas Dirks and it affected their performance negatively.
Answer to Question 2
Evaluation of Appropriate Leadership Style Recommended in the Respective Situation
After the replacement of the Chancellor Nicholas Dirks, the new person who was being
appointed was Carol T Christ who tried to apply the democratic leadership approach. In the
respective situation, the usage of the transformational and democratic leadership styles are most
appropriate as it will be suitable for understanding the viewpoints of the different students and
the encouragement of the shared leadership is the main approach which is required (Tepper et al.

2018). From the analysis of the case study, the combination is essential which will be helping
leaders in eliminating fight and misunderstandings among the different individuals along with
diffusing tension among one another. Getting the different people in the system engaged is the
key element of transformational leadership which is needed in the process of decision-making.
Carol T Christ was capable of nurturing the moral development of the different followers and
internalizes them with the same values as well as principles successfully (Turnnidge and Côté
2018). In this scenario, the usage of the motivation and encouragement are highly important for
positive development of the followers and it will be exemplifying moral standards within
company and encourages the same of others in achieving the goals and maintaining them
successfully. Democratic kind of leadership is high effective in managing the growth of the
universities or colleges along with making the people understand their duties (Banks et al. 2016).
Answer to Question 3
Analysis of Tools which could be used in Respective Scenario
Team building Activities is the first and foremost tool which needs to be implemented by
the leaders or the chancellor and other higher authorities of the college. Collaboration is the vital
approach which is needed to be implemented by them for the success in the tasks which are
performed by them. Through team building activities, it will be allowing the team members to
bond together along with providing opportunity for them in decompressing from the tasks which
are performed by them and achieve the goals successfully (Berkovich 2016).
Decision-Making Skills is the other tool that can be adopted by the leaders and
chancellors wherein the joint or collaborative decision-making can be beneficial and fruitful for
making the decisions effective and appropriate in nature. These will be helping and allowing the

leaders and subordinates to work hard and generate their viewpoints thoroughly to improve the
effectiveness in a suitable manner.
Delegation Skills is the other tool which is the key ingredient in generating high level of
success in achieving the goals. As to increase the level of efficiency and develop others,
delegation of the tasks is the key element which will be making the people understand their
responsibilities and they will be performing well. The team will be having the proper opportunity
to learn new skills and take on the new responsibilities for performing the tasks in a suitable
manner. It will be allowing the team members in responding when faced with the new task and
generate high effectiveness in the performance of the same and generating appropriate results
successfully (Harms et al. 2018).
Mentorship Programs is highly essential wherein through proper training and
development programs will be helpful in understanding the effectiveness of the company and the
leaders which will be helpful for utilizing the different essential resources of the company
appropriately. The mentorship program will be helpful for identifying and grooming high
potentials for management positions and it will be providing the different students with the
proper skills on problem-solving and it will be suitable for achieving the goals in the college or
in the future workplace successfully (Fiaz, Su and Saqib 2017).
