board in the top level management of the company. It has been analyzed, that the general and

Introduction
The aim of this assignment is to the do the analysis of the company’s general
environment, specific external environment, ethics and social responsibilities and skills and
responsibilities of managerial job. For this analysis, the company chosen is Scentre Group
Limited. This company is based in Australia as well as New Zealand and it does its business
in shopping centre whose retail destinations operates under the brand of Westfield. The
company undertakes the ownership, design, development, construction, property
management, marketing activities and leasing for their centres (Scentregroup.com. 2019).
Under this report, discussion will be based on the organization’s general environment and
evaluation of the impact of the technology on the general environment of the company. In
addition, the discussion will be done on the organization’s specific external environment and
evaluation of the impact of the advocacy groups from the organization’s specific external
environment. Further, discussion will also be based on the concept of ethics and social
responsibility and its evaluation for Scentre Group. Moreover, the discussion will be based on
the managerial job and its role and responsibilities. Lastly, the discussion will be followed by
the conclusion of this report.
Discussion
Task 1
General External Environment
The range of the factors that is outside the organization, which may affect the
operations and performances of the business, defines the general environment of the
company. The key elements of the environment that affects the organizations business is
economical, technology, socio cultural, political-legal and international context (Crowther
2018). According to Mai Q. Nguyen, the changes in the technology as well as the highly

competitive market conditions influence strongly the innovations requirements of the
company. Hence, the organizations have to seek for the development of new products as well
as processes for meeting the requirements by transferring the technology or doing research
and developments (Ijbhtnet.com. 2019).
The technology is one of the most important aspects of the organization in today’s
era. It has the major effect on the life style, patterns of consumption as well as the economy
of the country. Hence, the company must keep pace with the constant change as well as to be
alert regarding introduction of the new technology for turning this advancement into the
opportunities for making profit for the company. Therefore, identification and responding to
the changes in the external environment play vital role (Ijbhtnet.com. 2019).
Respond to the Technological Change
The organizations can respond to the changes in technology by adapting to the
changes. Technology includes the requirement of science as well as technology for
production as well as uses of the technological tools for manufacturing. Day to day new
technologies is introducing. Hence, it requires continuous innovations and adapting to the
changes. Advancement of the technology has a greater impact on the industries. In case of
Scentre Group, it is also engaged in investments in the new or the alternative technologies as
and when required. If the company responds to such changes by the advancement of the
technology then they will be able to improve in determining the quality products, which is
cost efficient (Scentregroup.com. 2019).
In 2018/2019, the company has taken so many measures for adapting and responding
to the change in the technology. The company has identified that the cost of the disposal of
waste to landfill has increased and the companies of Australia has no longer relied on the
China as the source of income for recycling waste. Hence, the company the company looked
for the innovative providers for engaging proactively in order to improve waste management

of retail’s management. It was with the help of weight technology, they identified that the
retail parter’s waste volume places in contractors that provide data for the separation of
incorrect waste. The provider of the company will then send the waste to the processed
engineered fuel facility in the next year that will be turned into the fuel, instead of going it to
the landfill (Scentregroup.com. 2019).
Match of the theory with the practices of the Organization
It has been analyzed that the Scentre Group’s practice is matching with the theory.
The company has adapted to the change in the requirement. It has adapted by finding the
technology through innovations to reduce its cost of the waste management. The company
has reduced the waste amount, which is being sent to the landfill, and they saved the total
energy that is used in producing the new materials, which would have been used in the fit-
outs.
Task 2
Specific External Environment
It is defined as the major forces, which is outside the organization that is having
potential for significantly affecting the organization’s performances. These forces as well as
the institutions are relevant directly to achieving objectives of organizations. It is because; it
has immediate and direct impact on the actions and decisions of the managers. Every
organization’s specific environment is unique and it changes with different conditions that are
prevailing. The important elements of the task environment are suppliers, customers,
competitors as well as pressure groups (Yetisen et al. 2014). However, the factor that will be
taken into consideration is advocacy group. These groups use the variety of strategies and
tactics for drawing the attention of people and influence the performance of the organizations.
Therefore, the environment consists of so many constraints, problems, contingencies and
opportunities, which may affect the organization’s operations and its performance. According

opinion of public does not affect the attainment of preferences for some of lobbying

In order to deal with this by adapting and responding to this the organization should
plan accordingly that should be dynamic and capable enough for addressing the needs of the
group and public. Advocacy plan is good if it is able to respond to the identified needs. These
advocacy groups regulate the practices of the organizations by public communication, public
boycott and media advocacy for convincing the companies to change the companies for
changing the practices (Halpin 2014). However, organizations respond with the help of
making effective strategy in order to reduce the impact of advocacy group. In addition, to this
company participates with the regulatory bodies, industries as well as national and
international bodies for implementing and reacting to the effect of the advocacy group (Brett
et al. 2014).
Impact of an Advocacy Group
During the year 2018- 2019, the company has introduced 437 brands that were new
and 317 brands that were existing have grew their network with the company. Scentre Group
have list of associations with the industry, national as well as international organization in
which the company holds the position on government body, by participating in the projects as
well as communities, by viewing membership as strategic and providing substantive funding
that is beyond the routine membership dues (Scentregroup.com. 2019).

Hence, it can be said that the company practices according to the theory of specific
external environment and impact on the advocacy group. They adapts to the changes by
planning accordingly strategically by participating with the government, communities,
national as well as international bodies while responding to the changes to this factor
(Scentregroup.com. 2019).

Ethics and Social Responsibility
Ethics is defined as the good behavior concern. It strives the organization for striving
for the fairness as well as justice that is within the sound management practices. The ethics
emphasizes the organization for linking the specific indicators of the financial profitability.
The term social responsibility in terms of corporate refers to the obligations for taking actions
that protects as well as improves the whole society’s welfare and supports the interests of
organizations. Hence, there must be appropriate balance between the growth of economy and
welfare of environment and society (Jones Christensen, Mackey and Whetten 2014).
According to Kh. Tomba Singh, Ethics as well as corporate social responsibility is the vital
concerns for making decisions, it is because it contributes towards accelerating the overall
development process of the notion. It justifies the notion that an organization applies the
ethical practices in the dealings of business, remains ethical, and still makes the profit

The company has both the mechanism of internal as well as external for taking the
advice as well as reporting concerns about the ethical and the lawful behavior as well as the
matters that are related to the integrity of the organizational such as by the mechanism of

ethically and still making profit. Moreover, the company also formulated several mechanism
that is internal and external for formulating corporate governance that strives ethical and
social responsibility of the company and its people (Scentregroup.com. 2019).
Evidence of practicing Ethics and SR
The Scentre Group, with the help of their board as well as executives helps in
maintain the corporate governance policies as well as practices that reflects the regulatory
environment, member’s expectations and the other who are interested in dealing with the
group. The company is delivering its long-term sustainable as well as responsible business for
their stakeholders. Maeve Foley, who is the Centre manager of the largest living centre of
Perth of Westfield Carousel of Scentre Group, fulfills her responsibility of operations, risk
and security, customer service, retail relations and marketing and financial for the assets and
ensures in meeting their financial and strategic targets (Vitell 2015). She strives to manage
and drive the outcome with the key stakeholders for best assets. Therefore, it is good news
that the manager of the company is fulfilling the ethical responsibility in the fulfillment of
their responsibility, which is according to the theory of the ethics and corporate social
responsibility (Anon, 2019).

Top Level of Management
The level of management refers to the demarcation line between the various positions
of managers in the organizations. As the size of the business increases, the level of the

business increases. It determines the command chain as well as the amount of authority and
responsibility that prevails in it (Soomro, Shah and Ahmed 2016). There are three levels of
the management, top level, middle level and lower level management. The top level
management is consists of the board of directors, chairman, managing directors, chairman,
general managers, vice president, president, chief executive officers, chief operating officers
and chief financial officers (Horovitz and Webb 2015). The key responsibilities of this level
of the management are as follows:
 Defining the purpose of the Group as well as setting the Group’s strategic objectives.
ď‚· Instilling the culture and values of Group.
ď‚· Approving and monitoring the key budgets, financial statements, business plans, and
financial policies and reporting.
ď‚· Establishing, promoting and maintaining the proper processes and control for
maintaining integrity of the financial accounting.
ď‚· Overseeing compliance with the legal as well as regulatory obligations.
Skills Required
The four skills of top level of the management are as follows:
Leadership- It includes experience of the organizations that includes senior executive
leadership experiences.
Strategy- It includes experiences in the development and implementations of the strategic
plans of business.
Governance- It includes experience with the governance in listed sector.
Innovations- It includes experience in the transformations of the business models as well as
the processes that includes technology and digital platform.

The top-level management with the help of these skills ensures effective management
and overall performance of the Group. If they have leadership quality, they would lead the
group with proper vision and missions and achievement of the objectives. In addition, with
the help of strategy skill, the top management will be make use of their experiences and
makes the strategy that helps in dealing with the internal and external environment in align
with the overall objectives. Moreover, governance skill will lead in fulfilling the ethical and
corporate social responsibility of the company. Lastly, innovations skill will be help in
keeping pace with the changes of the external environment that includes technology and the
process (Singh, Thambusamy and Ramly 2014).
Evidence of the Skills
As a finance manager in the last company, the skills that was developed in me during
the tenure was the skill of leadership, it was done by leading the whole team of finance by the
process of decision making, accountability, honesty, integrity, creativity, innovations and by
good communications to the team members. Apart from this, I have learned the skill of
strategy (Scentregroup.com. 2019). This skill was learned by facing the several hurdles of the
internal and external environment, several strategy have been developed for dealing with it.
Moreover, governance skills developed in me is governing the team of finance in most ethical
manner by complying with the corporate social responsibility. Lastly, innovations skill was
developed by adapting with the changes in the technological and processes of operations
(Mishra 2014).
Requirement of skills at the company
Therefore, for performing the role of Board in the top level of management of the
Scentre Group, I have developed the all the four skills such as leadership, governance,
strategy and innovations. These skills will help in achieving my responsibilities and overall
objectives of the organization (Mishra 2014).

Hence, it has been analyzed from the assignment that Scentre Group has evaluated
and responded to the change in the general external environment of the company in the aspect
of technology. It has accessed the rising of the cost of disposal of waste and after that; the
company has introduced the technology for reducing the cost for proper waste management.
Moreover, it has been analyzed from the analysis of the specific external environment in
terms of advocacy group that the company manages to have associations with national,
international, industries and regulatory bodies for adapting effectively with the impact of
advocacy group. In addition, the level of ethics and social responsibility of the organization
has been analyzed, it has been analyzed that the company makes every effort for complying
with the corporate social responsibility and business ethics of the company. Lastly, the skills
that are required to perform the job of top-level management have been identified for placing
the role of board in the company.
