INTRODUCTION
Operation management is very important while designing the products and services by
using the all needed input or physical process. The main objective of operation and management
is to utilize the all resources in the effective manner so that it will help in producing the desired
output and also helpful in meeting the customer requirements and ensures that there is carrying
out proper process of production with out any interruption (White, 2016). This project is based

on Hyundai that deals in vehicle sectors and it was ranked as the world 's fifth largest auto
maker. This project will explain that different roles of leader and manager in management and
operation and different different approaches of leadership and operation management that are
used in Hyundai motor company and in an organisation what are the factors that affects the
operation and management and any decision making theory. It provides an idea about how leader
and manager are similar having same objectives and goals but different in leadership approach.
TASK 1
INTRODUCTION
Hyundai motor company has created that environment in which everyone has roles and
responsibility. By doing this ,it is helpful in taking the quick decision that will helpful in
grabbing the opportunities and also helpful in achieving the desired outcome. This task explains
that what are the roles and responsibility of leader in achieving the desired result.
P1 Comparing between leader and manager 's roles and characteristics
Manger is that person who manage the all things in a right way and allocate the resources
to every department and ensures that every department has adequate and required resources for
completing the task. He is also responsible for carrying the activities in the proper way so that
company can move on towards the goals and objectives (Ming and et.al., 2013).
Leader is that person who influences the other people and motivates them to work
properly.
There are many difference between manager and leader which are as follows-

achieving the specified goals.

 Leader always want change and try to
bring any innovative things.
 Leader is a risk taker. He takes risk by
adopting the new things with out
knowing the result of it (Chen and
et.al., 2011).
 Leaders have followers who follows
him.
 Leader has objective to develop the
organisation.
 Leader builds the relationship with the
people for motivating them.
 Leader does things right.
 A leaders thinks about the people by
replacing himself at the place of people.
 A leader understands that if group
member will not work hen he is only
responsible for it.
 Leader influences or motivates the
employees for following him and doing
work in an efficient manner.
 Leader always considers the external
environment while taking decision.
 They only do those things that are pre
specified. They maintains their status
quo.
 Manager controls the risk and identify
the problems for solving it with n time
period.
 Manager have employees or
subordinate that obey the order of him.
 Manager has optimistic nature that aim
to build or increase the morale of the
employees.
 Manager builds system and process that
will help in the achievement of
organisational goals.
 Manager does right things for
managing the all things.
 Manager only thinks about the
organisation goals and charts.
 A manager blames the team member
for any wrong things that are occurred
in the organisation (Nakayama and
Bucks, D.A. 2012).
 Manager directs or guides the people
for contributing in the achievement of
organisation 's goals and objectives.
 Manager only considers internal
environment of the company.
P2 how the role of the leader or function of manager apply in different situation
The role of leader and function of manager is very important in every situation whether it
is favourable situation for Hyundai motor company or unfavourable situation for this. Leader and

manager both are play an important role for solving or facing the situation. In a company ,there
are many situation that have to face by leader and manager for accomplishing the desired
outcome or result. There are different different situation in which leader and manager have to
guide the followers and employees. Different situation like working with new team ,working on
new projects etc (Burke, 2013). In both situation ,they have to play following role for facing or
crossing these situation which are as follows -
1. Coaching - If leader or manager are working on new project or with new team members
then it is the responsibility of them for providing coaching or mentoring to the team
members so that they can work in an efficient and effective manner.
2. Supervisor – In an organisation, they play an important role as a supervisor. They
delegate the authority to every members and monitors or evaluates the performance of the
teams members. They check that whether performance are doing according to the
standards or not if not then takes corrective action. In this leaders assigns the duties to the
members according to their skills and abilities.
3. Decision maker – In an organisation there are many situation in which leader and
manger have to take decision and establish a direction of the company. They should be
quick decision maker so that they can take advantages of the opportunities and can
contribute in achieving the mission and vision statements.
4. Visionary - In an organisation ,there are employees who have own objectives that they
want to achieve. leader sets the vision and ask the followers or people to follow that
vision and contribute in achieving this vision. Leader or manager should know about the
right way by which company can get success (Moghaddam and et.al., 2011).
P3 Different theories and approach of leadership
There are many types of theories and approaches of leadership which are as follows-
1. Situational leadership – According to this theory ,every individual is affected by the
situation whether it may be a positive affect and negative affect and every situation need
different leadership style. In this ,style of leadership may change according to the
situation for meeting the requirements of the company. With this style ,leader should
change his style not the followers to adopt to the leadership style. The primary factors
that tells that how to adopt the style in different situation and these factors ask the leader
to adopt the directive or supportive leadership style (Hatziargyriou, 2014).

2. Contingency theory- It is an organisational theory that explains that there is no best way
to organise the various activities because there is environment that are changeable and
every company have to adopt it. There are minor difference between situational theory
and contingent theory that is in situational theory leader adopts the style according to the
situation but in contingent theory depend on the degree of fit between leadership style or
quality and that is required in that situation.
3. System leadership – This theory is based on general system theory. This theory has
objective to create a good working environment in the organisation so that all employees
can contribute in achieving the best result. According to this theory all employees have to
work according to the system. In other terms it can be say that ,this theory follows the
system for creating the healthy environment in the organisation.
Strength of situational leadership theory is that it can be applied across a variety of
things. It is helpful in knowing that how leadership is effective and how it can achieve the
effectiveness in the organisation. An organisation is a system that should be understood by every
members of the company and should follow it. In system leadership theory there are 3 phases
which include -individual managers ,managerial team , and the organisation (Bouvy and et.al.,
2012). These phases is helpful in knowing that how an individual can make himself effective and
efficient in every situation whether it is critical or favourable situation. At last is company want
to achieve the success then every member should coordinate with each other and communicate
properly.
CONCLUSION
Every leader and manager is affected by many factors and they have many roles and
responsibility in an organisation for achieving the desired result. A leader and manager is the
only person who motivate or encourages the employees for working in a effective manner and
there are many types of leadership theory like situational leadership theory ,continently theory
etc.
TASK 2
INTRODUCTION
This task will define that what are the approaches of operation management and roles
and function of a leader and a manager that plays in an organisation. Importance of operation

management that helpful in achieving the organisation objectives and goals and what are the
factors that affects the business environment and decision making process (Handschin and
Petroianu, 2012).
P4 Approaches to operation management and role of leader or manager
Operation management is very helpful in effective utilizing the resources or input for
producing the good quality of products or output so that it can meet the requirement of the
customers. There are different different types of approaches that are used in operation
management which are as follows -
1. Six sigma approach – This approach is used by Hyundai so that it can improve it's
product or service quality and can meet the requirement of customers. It is a statistical
techniques that removes the defects and minimizes the variability in manufacturing and
other business functions. It is quality improvement approach that are used by every
company and that defines the process for doing any work and specific value target. It is
helpful in reducing process cycle ,cost ,time and also helps in satisfying the customers
needs and wants so on. These approach is also used by Hyundai for removing the defects
from the business process or manufacturing.
2. Lean production - This approach is also used by Hyundai for reducing the wastage that
are created from manufacturing process. It is used in every aspect of business that is
from designing to distribution. It ensures the better quality of products and services. It
cuts or minimizes those activities that is not adding any value in the products (Botton,
Cavalletto and Marmeggi, 2013).
3. Cause and effect approach – In this approach ,company is able to identify the causes of
deficiency and what are the effects of this causes on the process. It is lasso helpful in
removing the deficiencies from the production or manufacturing process.
In operation and management, leader and manager plays an important role .They play the
following role which are as follows-
 A manger and leader ensures that all employees or people are working according to the
standards or not.
 They motivates or encourages the people.
 They manages the required resources that are needed for completing the task
(Mohammadi, Soleymani and Mozafari, 2014)

 Operational manager sets the budget ,controls the cost and keep the organisation on the
right track.
 They set the goals and vision and policies for various departments so that everyone can
follow it and can work accordingly.
 Manger and leader creates the good and healthy work environment so that employees
can do work comfortably.
 If any problem is arising in the production process or to the employees then it is the
responsibility of them to sought out the problems.
 They manages the all activities that are helpful in completing the task.
 They regularly monitor the progress of the function and evaluates the process is on the
right pathway or not.
P5 Importance and value of operation management in achieving business objectives
Operation management is helpful in maintaining the good quality of products and
services. This management is helpful in the manufacturing company because it is helpful in
converting the input [material ,labour etc.] into the output [products and services] with efficient
and effective manner (Pinkerton, 2011) . This management is very helpful in achieving the
objectives and goals of the company. Hyundai has also operation management department that
help in maintaining the high quality of products and services and contributes in the success of the
company. This management is very important for Hyundai which are as follows-
1. It is helpful in maintaining the good quality of products and services so that company can
satisfied the customer's needs and wants.
2. It ensures that there is no interruption in the production process.
3. It ensures that there is proper availability of resources that are required for completing the
task and also ensures the effectiveness and efficiency of the organisation.
4. It makes the budget ,reduce cost etc. so that company can achieve success in the market.
5. It manages the available resources and process and follow the legal regulation that are
compulsory for every company while designing the products and services (Lind, 2013).
6. It also play an important role in doing planning staffing ,controlling and so on.
7. It timely monitors the process of manufacturing ans evaluate that workers are following
the standards or not.
8. It is helpful in minimizing the cost and risk that are related to production process.

9. It is important to take the decision related to the supply chain management and quality of
the products and services.
10. It is important in satisfying the customers needs and wants that are most important
element for getting the success and it maintains the customers loyalty towards the
company.
11. It is helpful in removing the deficiency and wastages that are occurred in the production
process.
12. It maintains the standards of the quality of products and services.
13. It also maintains the good relationship with suppliers and customers so that they can
supply the raw material within time period and with good quality and can get the
satisfaction of customers.
Operation management is very important part of the organisation . Without it any company can
not get success in the market because it is only that part that identifies the needs and wants and
helpful in satisfying the customers. And customers satisfaction is most important for surviving in
the market. Hyundai motor company is successful in achieving these objectives (Bahmani-
Firouzi and Azizipanah-Abarghooee, 2014).
P6 Factors with in the business environment that affects the operation management of Hyundai
motor company and decision making by leadership
In Hyundai motor company, there are many factors that affects the operation
management and decision making that is done by leaders and managers . Following are the
factors that affects the business environment which are as follows-
1. Employees – Employees is the most important part of a business that can also affects the
the business environment and decision making of a leader or manager. If employees are
not following the policies of the business or are not well behaved or disciplined then it
affects the environment of business and creates negativity in the mind of outside persons.
And company can't get success in the market.
2. Organisational policies – It also affects the business or working of it's employees. If
policies is not strict then employees can work comfortably and will contribute in the
achievement of the organisational objectives and goals and vice- versa. It also affects the
decision of leader because they have to take decision according to the policies of the
company so that it can achieve the result (.Moghaddam, Seifi and Niknam, 2012).

3. Organisational hierarchy – In Hyundai ,there are many level of hierarchy that is
followed by the company. It affects the decision of leader or business environment
because if hierarchy level is tall then will be no proper communication then employees
will be demotivated and will not work properly.
4. Organisational issues – In an organisation ,there are many no. Of issues like conflicts
between employer and employees ,employees and employees ,strike and lockouts etc. It
affects the decision of leaders and managers. For example – If manager has taken
decision related to the working of the employees. After some time ,employees announce
the strike then it affected the decision of the managers. Now managers have to take
decision according to the currently situation.
5. Organisation culture – It also affects the business environment. If in the company there
is good working environment and culture then workers will feel motivated and will do
work properly. Then in this situation ,manager don't need to waste his time on evaluating
the working on a regular basis. This saved time, manager can utilize it another activities.
So it affects the business environment and decision making of leaders and managers
(Expósito, And et.al., 2016).
6. Environmental factors – There are also other factors that affects the decision of leaders
and managers. Other factors like market situation ,competitors policies ,economy
situation , political factors. A manager have to take decision after considering these
factors.
CONCLUSION
According to this task ,it is concluded that leader and manager plays and important role in
surviving the organisation and it helps in increasing the efficiency of the organisation. Hyundai
has a department which name is operational department that helps in maintaining the good
quality of products and services and is able to satisfy the customers requirements and convert
them into loyal customers and there are many other factors that affects the business environment
like organisation policies ,cultures etc.
CONCLUSION
Operation management is very important department in an organisation for achieving the
success in the market. If this department will not exist in the company then it can not achieve the

desired outcome because it is helpful in designing the the products and services and maintains
the good quality of products that helps in achieving the customers satisfaction. From the above
report it is concluded that roles and function of the leader or manger that helps in motivating the
employees and encouraging them for doing the work with effectiveness. And it evaluates the
different types of leadership theory like situational theory ,contingency theory etc. that helps in
motivating the employees and importance of operating management like it helps in reducing cost
and increase the efficiency in the company.
