important role in taking effective decisions and motivating the employees for improving their
performance. An organization goes through various situations and based on the different
situations, the roles and functions of leader and managers changes and also applied
differently. Some of the situations are stated below.
Slow:The growth and development of the Starbucks is little slow. This slow change
may result into delay in project completion and reduction the profits. Any changes that are
made in the internal organizational structure is all because of the changes made in the
external environment. For instance, slow profit may be the result of slow market growth.
Stable:In this situation, the growth of Starbucks is moderate and stable. The market
changes may not even affect Starbucks and there will be no change in the profits and
decisions can be taken quickly (Chiu, Balkundi and Weinberg, 2017).This situation helps in
analysing the market conditions in the right context because no major change in the market

There are some changes that arises in both outer and inner business environment. The
inner changes which includes organizational structure, processes, policies etc. which can be
controlled by the organization. Controlling these factors effectively will help in earning
higher profits. On the other hand, there are some external factors which are outside the
control of Starbucks which includes political, social, economic, technological, legal etc.
These changes bring opportunity for the business and needs to be planned effectively to avoid
risk.
In Starbucks, along with transformational supportive leadership style is also used to
make the work more effective. In this, the employees of Starbucksget full support from the
leaders for making the work done in an effective way. According to this, the decisions are
taken according to the needs and perception of the employees and also considering the
objective of the Starbucks.
P3 Application of different theories and models
The three different types of leadership styles are stated below.
Situational leadership
This leadership model was developed by Paul Hersey and Ken Blanchard. In this the
leader assigns the task to the sub ordinates as per the skills and talent. After the complete
market analysis, the leader takes the decision (Thompson and Glasø, 2018). This theory helps
in coming up with the best solution and facing the challenges that may arise in the
market. The leadership style changes with the change in the situation.
Strengths Weaknesses

environment for workers.
ï‚· Increases the awareness of the
leaders.
ï‚· Enhances effective team work.
ï‚· It focusses only on the short term
needs and ignores long term needs.
ï‚· This style can be ineffective in task-
oriented environment.
ï‚· It completely depends upon the skill
level of the leaders.
System leadership

focusses on the outcome which are obtained by the activities (Boylan, 2016).Also, all these
activities are pre-planned and only actual results are matched with the desired
results.Applying this leadership model will benefit the organization in getting a leader having

organizational structure.
Management by objective
The aim of management by objective model is to enhance the performance and
productivity of the organization. This can be done by clearly defining the organization’s
objectives to the employees and the management. From the Starbucks point of view, it is very
essential that the management and employees works together in harmony in order to create
and define the objectives (Waring, 2016). Also, objectives should comply with the resources
of the organization. For instance, the objective of the organization is to increase the market
share of a particular product then the organization is required to communicate the same to the
employees and also work on arranging the resources required to accomplish the objectives.
With is model, Starbucks will be able to conduct their activities in a systematic manner
because employees will be aware of their role and responsibilities.
Strengths Weaknesses
ï‚· Itencourages face to face
communication.
ï‚· Flexible enough to face different
objectives from time to time.
ï‚· Encourages greater participation
from the employees.
ï‚· It became complex and time-
consuming process to switch from
one objective to another.
ï‚· Problem in measuring the objectives
because it changes from time to
time.
Chaos Theory
According to this theory, at certain times the market undergoes changeswhich can be
related to the economic slowdown or change in customer taste and perception. This theory
stated that Starbucks should be capable enough in order to adapt to these changes as soon as
possible so as to prevent any losses to occur which is termed as chaos (Mbengue and et.al,
2018). Thus, it is very important for the management to prepared in advance to face such
chaos arising in the market.Applying this theory, will be very beneficial for the Starbucks as
it will help in developing the adaptability skill for their employees and will become efficient
enough to face the challenges.
