Introduction
The role of management skills in the organization is huge as it gives significant way to analyze
the area which requires training or change. The solution is helpful to improvement in the set of
own skills for managing the functions as well as operations of the organization in order to gain
the professional and personal objectives. It is the process that entails the different areas such as
training and development of employees, social development and leadership style that have
noteworthy influences on the behavioral, environmental and cognitive skills. It is vital for the
organization to keep the focus on the way of leading and motivating the team to attain an agreed
objective or goal. Managerial decision should be developed by management to make
amendments to the organization. The report will provide recommendations for making an
improvement. Furthermore, the report will describe the different management style by
comparing them. It would be helpful for the organization to understand the effective
management style so that the customer of the hotel can be satisfied. Along with this the report
will define the characteristics of the leadership and evaluate the communication process. The
communication process will be discussed in this report. The portfolio will develop to analyze the

Comparison of management style
The industry of Travel and tourism of UK is developing with fast speed that has an affirmative
influence on the GDP of the nation. There is two major organization of travel and tourism
industry such as Thomas Cook and TUI that are providing the high-quality services and products
to the customers in a significant manner. The management style of both organizations is adopting
different management styles to develop and design the products and services that use the trends
and requirements of the market. The training program is given by them to increase the
productivity of the staff.
Thomas Cook
It is the organization that provides high-quality services and products regarding travel and
tourism. The role of the management of this organization is crucial to handle the efficiency of
development and designs of services. The management style has been adopted by this company
is Active management style which facilitates to run and maintain the operations and linking with
the members of the staff (Lub, Nije Bijvank, Matthijs Bal, Blomme and Schalk, 2012). With the
help of this management style, Thomas Cook is able to focus on other areas such as
physiological requirements, safety along with the self-actualization process that facilitates them
to encourage the employees of the company to develop their performance. The ability of the
organization is increased due to the adoption of this management style. This management style is
different from others as it assists the organization to get feedback from customers so that the
possible changes can be done within the organization due to their feedback (Schoar and Zuo,
2017). Along with that, it aids to plan the activities for the organization to meet the standards

regarding benchmark for the employee. Active management style is efficient in order to
encouraging the employed to perform the job in an efficient manner to amplify the revenue of the

TUI
TUI is considered as the leading brand in the industry of travel and tourism that provides the
satisfactory services to its customers. It has been analyzed that the company uses Consultative
management style for managing the staff in an efficient manner. This style of management
facilitates the manager and supervisor of TUI to forecast the activities and requirements of the
company. It is able to find the gap and work as the need assessment in which it is able to find out
that area that require training and motivation to meet the objectives of the company. The services
of this company according to this management style are developed after analyzing the views of
the staff members and gathering the relevant information (Gursoy, Maier and Chi, 2008). It is
considered as the conceptual process regarding target analysis. This management style assists the
organization to increase the two-way communication and assign the responsibility as per the
skills of the employees.

1.2 Leadership characteristics of a manager
Autocratic and participative leadership style is being adopted by Thomas Cook as it facilitates
the business to take the decisions without any interruption. It has been analyzed that due to the
adoption of effective leadership an employee of the company can take the decision freely without
any restructures ad keep their viewpoints and opinions in front of employees. There is entire
authority control. The company has followed the leadership style and advantages the employees
who need close supervision. It has been analyzed that the nature of autocratic leaders is same as
automobile engines that handles the entire function on its own. The autocratic leadership style is
considered as the self-driven (Braun, Peus, Weisweiler and Frey, 2013). For instance, the
manager of Thomas Cook has the authority to take a decision involving marketing matters,
financial and judicial which is deemed as an autocratic leader (Walker, 2008). Likewise, if the
top authority of Thomas cook takes decisions in the context of its employee without involving
them in the decision-making process, it is called as an autocratic leader. However, the process of
decision making is fast in comparison to others due to the lesser involvement of people in the
process of decision making. Task-oriented situations are taken by the organization that is why
the autocratic leader of the company does work more effective by taking considered as the
groups for each employee to be capable to concentrate of their own task (Li, 2008).
It is vital for the organization to have the participative leader as this leadership has huge
importance in the context of team members, but the concluding responsibility of decision making
is taken by the participative leader. This kind of leaders motivates the employee and makes them
realize that they are valuable assets for the company and their contribution towards the
accomplishing the task is huge (Hughes, 2014). The feature of participative leader facilitates
Thomas cook to support in the changing environment in which the employees of this company

various kinds of leadership styles remain in the work environment in which it entails advantages
as well as disadvantages in each leadership style. The aim and culture of the business decide
which leadership would be suitable for the company. The adoption of the leadership style is
dependent upon the requirement of the tasks to accomplish and departmental requirements; there
are various organizations that adopt different kind of leadership style (Katzenbach and Smith,
2015).
