P4 Small scale research
Research is a process of investigation on a topic by searching information from various
sources so that the data collected can help in establishing facts and reach to conclusions. Data
can be collected by researcher by using either qualitative or quantitative methods depending on
the sources from where the data has been collected.
Qualitative method: This is a market research method where data is collected by asking open-
ended questions to the sample population which can help in generating deep knowledge about
the beliefs, ideas and thoughts of the sample population (Rees and Smith, 2017). This research
method help in generating deep information about the topic of research although the data
obtained by this method cannot be depicted on tables graphs etc.
Quantitative method: In this method quantifiable data is collected from sources which can be
interpreted by using graphs, tables, diagrams etc. in order to draw conclusions. The data
collected is in numerical, statistical form that can be easily analysed by using computational
techniques.

formulated for promotion of equal and diverse workforce both quantitative and qualitative
methods will be used. Following are the sources of information through which quantitative
information can be gathered:
Primary source: When the data is collected first hand by the researcher through surveys,
questionnaire etc. which help in collection of fresh information. this method help ion
collecting authentic and reliable information directly from the source which increase the
importance of this method (Romani and et. al., 2017).
Secondary sources: These sources help in collection of second hand information through
newspapers, internet, articles, books, journals etc. so the information already contained in
these sources can be interpreted so that research can convey their own thoughts on the
information gained through these sources.
In this research the researcher is using primary sources of information by using questionnaire
so that the quality and authenticity of information collected can be increased which can help
in forming better strategies for Tesco.

Sampling: It is the process of selecting a representative population of a large population so
that data collected from this sample can be applied to the complete large population. the
sample size selected for this research is 30 employees of Tesco.
