INTRODUCTION
Project is referred to an endeavour undertaken by a business to achieve its objectives.
Managing projects involves numerous activities such as is initiating, planning, monitoring or
finishing the work in an effective manner so that preset goals or objectives can be achieved in a
specified time period. Whereas, Globalisation is referred as a procedure in which local and
national economy or culture or society are integrated with global firms. In addition, it is a way
which integrates the market for expanding the economy. Multinational organisations are those
organisations which operates their functions in more than one nation across the world. These
organisations are also receive governmental support because they contribute in growth of nation's
economy. Chosen organisation for this report is McDonald's which is a multinational fast food
industry. Project management plan will also build that includes scope, time, cost, risk,
communication etc. Small scale research will also developed which includes tools and
methodologies. In last, report will covers recommendation and reflection statement which is
formed on the basis of undertaking of research.
TASK 1
P1 Brief introduction about the project
Multinational corporations are those who operates functions in more than one nation. As
McDonald's is a leading fast food and restaurant chain which has developed its market presence
across the world. Through the concept of globalisation, it is very easy for them to enter in new
nation and use available resources of the nation. Main benefits of globalisation for the nation are,
enhancement of employment opportunities, receiving huge tax duties, development of
infrastructure etc. Whereas, through the concept of globalisation McDonald's can increase their
sales figures, profitability and market presence in easy manner.
Background of the research
In a marketplace, each firm has opportunities for expanding and grabbing the market
share of sector in which it deals. Main purpose behind conducting this research is to identifying
the impact of multinational corporation on business environment of a specific destination. As the
management of McDonald's have decided to expand their market share in Wales nation then they
have duty to consider various aspects like macro environmental factors, cost of the project, taste
and preferences of customers so that any difficulty wouldn't be faced by them.

Background of McDonald's
McDonald's is the US based restaurant. It is operating through out the world and is
regarded as one of the largest in the world. It initiated its business operations from the year 1940.
At present the restaurant has total number of outlets of 37,855. This has the total number of
employees of 210,000.

P2 Project management plan
Project Management Plan is a formal and a approved document which states how the
project will be executed, monitored and controlled. In normal terms it is a detailed document
which includes all the baselines, time lines and other planning documents which helps the
investigator to properly complete the project within the set time frame. It also defines the scope
and the objectives of the project. By effectively developing the project management plan it
provides guidelines to the project manager to properly conduct the research as well as reduce the
errors at the time of conducting the business activities. This helps in successful completion of the
project (Pieterse, 2015). Apart from this there are some important elements which the project

manager considers to complete the project successfully and attain the positive outcomes. These
are described as follows-
Cost- This is one of the most essential element that is to be considered by the project
manager which assist in conducting of business activities in a effective manner. It states the total
amount required for completing the project. Project manager needs effective funds to perform
project activities in a effective manner and attain the desirable results. In context to this project
manager requires £100 for carry out this research in appropriate way and for completed the
whole project that s to expand McDonald's is £28,800
Scope- This defines the overall purpose of the project in the market place. In context to
this project it will discusses how McDonald's will impact the business environment in Wales. . In
this context there is a wider scope for the McDonald's as by analysing the total business
environment it will greatly serve the needs of their customers by providing the best services.
Apart from this starting this new project will have a wider scope as it will be expanding its
business operations and enhancing its profits and moreover carrying out this research will help
the investigator to identify the impact of multinational corporations on the business environment
of host destination
Time- It is considered as an important element as organisation needs to offer services to
its customers in a timely manner. In context to the specific project, researcher needs to make
appropriate plan to complete the project activities in a timely manner. It will took around 55 days
to complete the project activities. In order to complete the project it will require approximately 6
months of time period.
Quality- For executing the project it is the responsibility of the project manager to
ensure that new project start up provides enhanced services to the customers and enhances the
goodwill of the company and therefore reduces the impact of the business environment.
(Falguera, 2012).
Communication- It is an vital component as project manager needs to effectively
communicate with all its customers and employees to execute the project in a effective manner.
Hence it is important for the investigator to use effective channels of communication to
communicate such as online survey and questionnaire in collecting the appropriate information
whereas in order to effectively complete the project it needs to effectively communicate with the

individuals in the form of oral communication, conducting online surveys so as to take decision
regarding globalising business operations.
Risk- This element needs to effectively considered by the project manager while
executing the business activities. Their are various risk associated with the project such as the
financial risk, technological risk, social risk and many others which needs to be carefully
considered. While carrying out the project researcher faced social and the technological risk and
while executing the project activities investigator faced risk of timely completing the project
activities and get information properly.
Resources- For effectively completing the project, researcher needs adequate resources
such as manpower, finance, tools and technology in order to attain the desired outcomes.
Sufficient amount of such resources helps in executing the project activities in a proper manner
(Grimes, 2012). In order to complete the project activities investigator requires efficient
manpower and proper funds, tools and technology to perform project activities in a desirable
manner and for completing the research it requires effective manpower and proper finance to
conduct research in a desirable manner.
P3 Work breakdown structure and a Gantt chart to provide time frames and stages
Work break-down structure: It can be defined as the key project deliverable in which
all the functions of project are divided into manageable parts so that it can easily understand by
the employees who will perform that specific task. With the help of WBS, project managers will
be able in decomposing the project in different phases, packages and work deliverables. This
tactics will also enables the project managers to determine the cost which is related with task or
materials etc. By using such structure, management of McDonald's will be able in estimating
desired cost of material, Human resource or entire project. A well framed WBS will provide
huge benefits to McDonald's in managing their business operations in an effective manner
( Hirst,2015).

Gantt chart - This is a graphical representation of time duration that supports the
managers in planning of important aspects of project in an organised manner. It includes
complete outline according to the segmentation of work and allotted deadlines. This chart also
provide beneficial support to the managers in monitoring the performance of employees so that if
they are not performing well then training will provided to them accordingly. All these functions
of Gantt chart will provide beneficial outcomes to the project managers of McDonald's as they
will able in monitoring the entire activities of project in appropriate manner. This chart will also
provide benefit in understanding the relationship and dependencies of several activities with each
other ( Lim, 2012).

Research is a systematic investigation into the study of materials and the sources so
as to establish facts and reach to new conclusions. Hence researcher should use appropriate
methods for carrying out the research effectively. Two common types of research
methodology are discussed as follows -
Qualitative- Under this method of data collection, researches uses opinions, reasons
and suggestions of the individuals while collecting the data. Data can be collected by the
help of interviews, questionnaire and many more.
Quantitative- Under this method of data collection, researcher uses numerical and
computational tools for analysing and evaluating the data.
Under the present research, qualitative method of data collection is used by the
investigator.
Data Collection
It is a method of collecting data and information towards completing the project in a
effective manner. Their are two types of data collection method-
Primary- Under this method data is collected by the researcher for the first time and
have not been used by any other . It leads to realistic collection of data and information.
Secondary- Under this method, data is already been collected by someone else and is
available in the form of books, magazines, journals and websites.
Under this project researcher uses primary method of collecting data in the form of

Sampling- It is a process used in statistical analysis in which predetermined number
of observations are taken from a larger population. Under this project research uses random

and their tastes and preferences changes very rapidly. And McDonald's does not serve all kind of
products and services as there is a limited products which will affect the company negatively.

business operations then it will need various type of labour, resources, etc. who can work
effectively in the company. This will force them to hire the local people with the expected skills
and abilities because hiring through different countries can become expensive during the initial
stage. Whereas 12 says that it contributes in enhancing the revenue collection of government
because with the sale of products of the McDonald's the country is able to generate huge amount
of tax that can be used for future investment and betterment of the country.

colours used by the company is very helpful in easily tapping the kids that contributes in

that political instability creates a major barrier for the McDonald's in expansion of its business.
This is because there are certain political factors like higher taxation rates, which can minimise
the profit for the company and also threat of terrorism will stop the company to expand the
business into another country. 15 says economic fluctuations because if the company has higher
level of economic instability then during the period of inflation the prices of everything goes up
where company can merely generate any sale. 15 says higher level of competition because UK is
the place where numerous food chain industries are strongly competing with one another in order
to boost sale and profitability. And McDonald's has limited menu compared to other global
brands which can limit restaurant to expand to the global market.
P6 Recommendations
RECOMMENDATION
On the basis of above conducted survey, some recommendation can be given to the
company for better performing and achieving the goals of the company.

 It has been recommended to the managers of McDonald's to implement advanced
technologies in the workplace so that better services would be provided to the new
customers in Wales.
 In order to successfully expansion in Wales, the managers of McDonald's should hire
knowledgeable and experienced candidates in UK who knows their culture and language
which helps McDonald's in dealing with different kinds of people.
 Managers of McDonald's should conduct PESTLE analysis before expansion in new
nation so that barriers like political instability, high competition in marketplace can be
identified in proper manner.
 In order to improving brand image in Wales, Management of McDonald's should
providing quality products to the customers of Wales nation and they can also use various
promotional tools like Television, Radio etc.
 McDonald's is recommended to increase the employment opportunities for the
unemployed people with their expansion plan. This will help the company to contribute
in the society, which in return attract customers. This all will help the organisation to
grow and develop in the market.
 McDonald's should concentrate on improving and developing the internal business
environment and for this purpose, it should analyses the SWOT for the company. By
applying this framework the company will be able to identify the internal strength which
can be used as a powerful source in order to meet business goals and objectives.
Furthermore, internal weakness will also be identifies and proper work and actions
should be taken on it.
 McDonald's should concentrate on the cultural and belief of the global country as well in
order to improve their brand image. They should properly identify the needs and tastes of
customers and then provide the products which will satisfy them. By this, the overall
brand image of the restaurant will be improved rapidly.

P7 Reflection
I have done a small research on the topic “How do multinational companies impact the
business environment of the host nation”. In this research topic, I have conducted a survey on the

basis of Questionnaire in which questions related to the topic has been asked to the respondent. I
have applied some qualitative as well as some quantitative methods to achieve the aim of this
project. My research is completely based on primary data which is also know as first hand data
because it help in determining the accurate and reliable data. While conducting this research I
have faced many problem because of the lack of tools and techniques. Issues, that I have faced is
lack of financial support from the company, lack of tools & techniques etc. Apart from that, main
problem which was faced by me is related with appropriate time period and for managing this
problem, I have divided all tasks of project in several parts so that better outcomes will be
received at the end of research. Some of the respondents were very friendly while responding
and on the other hand some were rude and acted as the hurdle in my process of accomplishing
the project. I have adopted two methods to perform this research and that are qualitative and
quantitative methods. Qualitative research are conducted to determine the in depth problems. In
this method respondent are limited and I have taken views of 50 respondents who have provided
me the whole views of population. On the other hand I am using quantitative data to draw some
conclusion on the basis of statistical and conceptual information. This method is used while
covering the large population and I have asked close ended questions from the respondents. The
purpose behind my this research is Descriptive research, in which I am throwing light on this
issue with the help of data collection. By performing all these activities I have achieved preset
objectives of research in a predetermined time period.
I have used different survey modes to collect the data faster, some of them are-:
 Online survey- This is the mode in which I have send my questionnaire on emails to the
targeted respondents and were asked to fill it and submit it. Other than this, social media
like Facebook and WhatsApp is take in use for the same purpose because people are
more active on these platforms.
 Text messages- This is the other mode of survey that I preferred, in which I have taken
help of short message service for sending the questionnaire to my respondents and I
asked them to fill it and send it back.
 Physical form- Under this method I have send a physical or paper form of questionnaire
through post. Respondent were asked to fill it with pen and send it back to the
investigators though post only.

 Face to face- In this mode, investigator themselves taken the survey by asking questions
from the respondent and filling it by own. This is a face to face interaction between
investigator and respondent.
CONCLUSION
From the above report it has been concluded that project management is an important part
of the organisation which help them to perform in a better way. Project management cover a lot
thinks like cost, scope , time , quality, communication, risk and resources. Importance of Gantt
chart has been determined while constructing a work break down structure and while discussing
time frame and stages for completion of work. A small scale research has been conducted while
preparing this project which also helped in determining the current scenario or impact of
multinational companies on the business environment of host nation. Some good
recommendations have been given to the organisation for improving its performance and to
develop and grow in the market. These will help the organisation to increase their productivity
and profitability.

I had faced language barriers while interacting with the people and group members as I and the people
belongs to different nations and background.
How did you overcome them?
I learned their language through videos and books which assisted me in resolving the language issues
through which I conducted my research in specific time frame.
