INTRODUCTION
Globalisation has major impact on the MNC that has changed total scenario of
the economies. It can be considered as convergence of economic activities in the
context of production and marketing .Marketing globalisation has created new marketing
opportunities , decreases marketing costs . In addition to this it also helped in creating
various streams to generate income and meet the needs of local buyers.
The present study is done on impact of BMW on the business environment of UK
(Epstein, 2018). BMW is the multinational company of Germany, that manufactures
premium class vehicles and has distribution network around various countries of the
World. It manufactures BMW cars, BMW cycles, BMW motorcycle, aircraft engine. Its
major competitors are Mercedes and Audi. Apart from that It produces its auto mobile
factories in Germany, U.S., Mexico, South Africa, and China. It is now entering in the
market of UK which is the most growing economy of the World. The UK economy is
generally stabilized ,that will help BMW to increase its profit and maintaining sustainable
growth. It will also helps in creating opportunities for job in UK.
According to the PMBOK (Project Management Body of Knowledge) 3rd edition, A
project is defined as a “temporary endeavor with a beginning and an end and it must be
used to create a unique product, service or result”. Further, it is progressively
elaborated. What this definition of a project means is that projects are those activities
that cannot go on indefinitely and must have a defined purpose.

P1 Aims and objectives
Background of the study
Multinational companies are the establishments which work across the countries.
Multinational company provides many benefits to the host company in which they are
established. These companies provide them relaxed code of ethical conduct that serve
to exploit the neediness of that nation. Multinational company also provide the critical
support necessary for the economic and social development in that nation. Multinational
company invest in the countries which increases the investment in the host country.
Through the establishment of the multinational company in the host country there are
technological changes in the country. The multinational company brings with it the

employment opportunities for the people in the host country as the recruitment are
mostly done from the domestic country. There is increment in the sources of tax by the
coming of multinational company, as the profit of the multinational company will be
subject to the local taxes which provides for the revenue source to domestic
government(Epstein, 2018). The onset of multinational company in the host country
improves the reputation of the host country, thereby increasing the chance of coming of
many large industries in the country. Though there are many advantages of the coming
of multinational company to host country but there are some consequences also which
are – increased competition, the existing companies in host country face the problem of
high competition. And also there are environmental effects as the host company work
for the cheapest and efficient methods to produce its product but ignores there effect on
environment(Young,Hood and Hamill, 2017).
Aim: “To identify impact of multinational companies on business environment of UK: A
study on BMW”
Objectives:
To understand conceptual framework of globalization
To determine the impact of BMW on social, economy and environmental condition of
UK
To identify relationship between working of BMW and business environment of UK
as host country
P2 Project Management Plan
The scheduling of all the activities related to the project is project planning plans.
The project planning plan is to be made for the efficient project and the completion of
the project in time. Through the project planning there can be evaluation of the project
topic, the time taken to complete that project, its aims and objective, scope, cost, quality
of project and the communicating persons for the report. This is a prime duty of the
project manager to allocate and mange the work good quality of work in the project on
time and with low cost.
Scope: Scope of this project is very wide as it will help multinational companies in
contributing well in economic development of host countries. Researcher has scope

to improve their knowledge on current burning issue. Furthermore, there will not
involvement of statistics and other facts. It will only include theoretical frameworks
related to subject matter. Through the project the researcher will study the effects of
the multinational companies on the development of the host company(Fletcher,
2017). The project will be limited to the effects of the multinational companies and
not the domestic companies.
Resources: Researcher will require human resource, physical resource, material,
equipment’s, funds. All these resources will have to conducting this study in effective
manner. In order to complete this project researcher, need the economic data of the
host company, reviews of the people in the host company, and the articles by the
political parties which shows the effects of the multinational company. With the help
of these resources the researcher is able to complete the quality project on time.
The origin of the resources are through outside sources. There has been opinion
and behaviour analysed as the survey conducted on 10 respondents.
Time: The researcher divided the tasks of the project according to the time so that
proper time can be given to every topic of the project. This project will be completed
in 8 weeks(Fletcher, 2017).
Cost: the researcher incurred the cost in the completing the research project. The
total cost of doing this project is £5000. Use of software will need fund, furthermore,
scholar will require money for transportation thus, overall budget of this research
project is 5000 Pound.

Communication: Communication is also an essential part of the project. In this
project the researcher collects of the data and information from the people of the
host countries and economist of the host company. The data is collected through
text messages, emails and personal interviews. Questionnaire will sent to local
citizens through email.

Quality: Project manager ensures that there is quality data contained in the project
report. There is proper utilization of the data and information provided and there is
application of the approaches and the relevant theories.
Risk : the risk involved in carrying this project are such as technical risk, financial
risk, human resource risk. If participants do not give correct answer then researcher
will not be able to find valid results. There are many external risk also associated
with this project such as climate etc. However, there will be influences of various
risks such as Technical risks External risks and Project-related risks which would
have negative impact on organisational performance.
Control techniques: The control charts are the graph used to compare the current
data with the previous data. It records the changes over the period. The quality
control chart analysis the data to see whether the sampled products meet the
specifications and if not than at what degree they vary from each other. According to
the project quality control chart is the appropriate technique (Quinlan,and et.al.,
2019).

Work breakdown structure-it is the structure that shows breakdown of
complicated work into small parts to make task easier with the aim of completing task
more efficiently and fastly. For having more flexibility tasks are further divided into sub
parts. The objective of further division is providing convenience to project management
to complete the task on time.

Gantt chart
It is the chart used to show project schedule that contain bars .The task which is
to be performed is listed on vertical axis. The breadth of the horizontal bars on the

graph shows the duration of each task. The modern Gantt chart shows relationship
between activities and dependency of every element related to the activity.

For initiating the data collection part of the project on which researcher have aimed at
using the qualitative techniques of data analysis which would be effective in analysing the issues

and opinion of consumers as per the asked questions. There has been consideration of primary
data collection techniques where researchers have prepared questionnaires that are to be asked to
the profession also to have adequate ascertainment over the research issues.
Interview
Q.1 Do you think that BMW provides job opportunities to local people of UK?
Interpretation As per interviewee A , BMW is creating job opportunity to local people
that helps in improving standard of living of local residents .On the other side according
to the opinion of interviewee B , BMW is creating job only for higher level of post that is
decreasing unemployment for younger people. Interviewee C replied that it is not
creating job opportunities at operation level which is required most among the local
people.
Q.2 Do you think that operations of BMW affect local business?
Interpretation Interviewee A replied operation of BMW is affecting environment
because it imitates lots of smoke while manufacturing the parts of cars. On contrary to
that interviewee B said that BMW carry out operation with full plan and strategy that
provide guideline to every staff members to carry out function safely and smartly. Apart
from that , interviewee C controlling and designing of process of production in BMW is
effective , as it has made proper arrangement of recycling the waste material and
effluents.
Q.3 Is this true that globalization has an impact on social level or social economy
of UK?
Interpretation According to respondent A , globalisation has huge impact on the
economy of the UK, as it is increasing per capita income of the country, also creating
trading opportunities . On the other hand interviewee B replied that globalisation of
MNCs have increased unemployment of local people and unequal distribution of the
income. In addition to this interviewee C replied that globalisation have increased the
competition and price of the product due to which local people are unable to afford this
interviewee adds more by saying that on the other hand globalisation is increasing
competition among various companies and helps in increasing their scale of business.

Q.4 Do you think the multinational companies are helpful in improving business
environment of UK?
Interpretation As per interviewee A , MNC is improving technological environment of
business as it invests huge amount of money that allows the use of best technology
while carrying business operation and manufacturing the product and and also adds by
saying that most of the MNC invest in Research and development that encourage to
invent new technologies. Apart from that interviewee B states that MNC helps in run
management by professional, as for carrying operations MNC need competent
persons . They have suitable managers to take care of technology, business
operations , expansion etc which helps in improving professional environment of the
business in UK. As per interviewee C MNC also helps in improving ecological
environment of business as it takes part in CSR activities that is a contribution towards
saving environment from pollution and protecting interest of general public.

Interpretation: From the above analysis 10 out of 20 participants believes that
multinational companies impact on business environment in UK. Whereas 7 participants
does not believe that the multinational companies impact on the business environment
of UK. Also 3 participants are not sure. It shows that the multinational companies impact
on the business environment of UK.

Interpretation: From the above analysis it is found that 7 out of 20 respondents believe
that political freedom is the major reason that encourage companies to expand business
in other locations, 6 respondents believe that economic of scale is the reason, 2
respondent believe that technological advancement is the reason and 5 respondent
believes that there are other reasons. Therefore Political freedom is the major reason
which encourage companies to expand in other locations too.

Interpretation: From the above research it have been studied that 10 out of 20
participants strongly agrees that BMW help in raising economic condition of UK.
Whereas 5 participants agrees, 3 participants strongly disagrees and 2 participants
disagrees. Therefore as per research BMW help in raising economic condition of UK.

Interpretation: From the above data it is concluded that 12 out of 20 participants
believes that BMW hires local citizens in host country in great extent. Also 5 participants
believes that BMW hires local citizens to some extent. And 3 participant believes that
BMW doesn't hire the local citizens. Therefore as per the observation BMW hires local
citizens in host country to great extent.

Interpretation: From the above analysis it is found that 7 out of 20 respondent believes
that operational and manufacturing activities of BMW impact negatively on the
environmental condition. Whereas 10 respondents believes that it doesn't effect the
negatively on environmental conditions. Also 3 respondent are not sure there findings.
Therefore it states that there is no negative effect of BMW's operational as well as
manufacturing activities on environment.

Interpretation: From the above research it shows that 4 out of 20 answerer believes
that BMW fulfil its corporate social responsibilities in host country UK. Whereas 12
believes that it fulfil its CSR to great extent. And 4 states that BMW doesn't fulfil the
CSR in the host country in UK. Therefore it is concluded that BMW fulfil its corporate
social responsibilities to great extent.

Interpretation: From the above data it is concluded that there are 15 out of 20
answerer says that BMW performance would help in improving business environment of
UK whereas 5 answerer says that there is no help in improving of the business
environment. Therefore it is concluded that BMW performance help in improving the
business environment of UK.

P5 Analyse research and data using appropriate tools and techniques.
Research methodology is the tool for investigation that helps an organisation in
carrying business functions smoothly. There are various other tools and technique for
carrying out an investigation. But is necessary for researcher to use effective tool and
method to complete a research or project.
Research philosophy-It is the most important part of research methodology that
means the way of collecting information. Apart from that , research philosophy is
classified into two categories: positivism and interpretivism(Quinlan,and et.al., 2019).
Both techniques are applied on the basis of nature of the project. Here interpretivism is
the technique that applies on projects which are qualitative in nature and includes
models, theories and facts for collecting data. On the other hand, positivism is the tool
that applies on quantitative type of project and formulates hypothesis to find out the data
about the topic. In the present study researcher have used interprevetism philosophy for

collecting qualitative research that helped researcher to find out impact of multinational
companies on business environment of UK (Kumar, 2019)
Research approach- It is another technique of research methodology that
explains the way of conducting research. It further includes two methods: Inductive and
deductive, where inductive method is used to conduct qualitative type of research but in
this researcher does not include formulation of hypothesis, the researcher just involves
theories and models to identify the facts related to the project topic. On contrary to that
deductive technique believes on formulating hypothesis and it is suitable for quantitative
type of research. The present study is based on inductive type of research as it needs
formulation of hypothesis and qualitative facts of the project topic , which helped
researcher to conceptualize the framework of globalization and determining the factors
that impact in social, economy and environmental condition of UK (Kumar, 2019).
Research design- It is the method that provides framework under which research
will be carry out by the researcher or it is an outline that provide guidance to the scholar
to carry out further task in research. In the present study scholar have applied
descriptive research design that involves describing the behaviour of the research
problem. It helped researcher to identify relationship between working of BMW and
business environment of UK as host country and the major impact that it have on the
business environment of UK.
Data collection- For conducting a research it is required to collect data and other
relevant information for doing further research .It is the most important part of
research .There are broadly two categories of data collection: Primary and Secondary .
Primary data collection is the method in which researcher applies method to collect
original data(research methodology,2019). There are various sources of collecting
primary data like questionnaire , schedules and interview method etc. Thus data
collected from these sources are first hand information and should be related to the
topic.
On the contrary to that , secondary data collection is the method in which scholar gather
information from existing research, books , journals, company profile, journals, internet ,
articles etc. In the present study researcher have used questionnaire and interview

method to collect the data in which only citizens of the UK will be included. That helped
scholar in getting the facts about the current situation of impact of businesses in UK.
Sampling -It means predetermined number of observation taken from large
population. The sample will be based on the nature of analysis and should represent the
entire population. It mainly includes simple random sampling and systematic sampling.
In Simple random sampling population is taken randomly which may include consumer
with common preference or people with common values and norms etc. Whereas in
systematic sampling , members of the population are put in some order and a starting
point is selected at random . In the current study scholar have used simple random
sampling technique that gives accurate information about the relationship between
working of BMW and business environment of UK (Quinlan and et.al., 2019).
Data analysis- After availability of various alternatives through data collection ,
the next step is to analyse the data. In the present study scholar have used thematic
analysis which lay emphasis on examining and recording patterns within the data .This
method it best suited for the project that need brief description about each of the
alternative related to the data . It includes comparing various factors and graphically
displaying the relationship between those factors that affect the research problem.
Ethical consideration- It means in the present research participants are not
subjected to harm in any ways. Thus here the scholar have taken full consent to obtain
the consent and has taken care of privacy of information obtained through participants.
Apart from this researcher have maintained adequate level of confidentiality of the
research data. Along with this researcher has taken care of duplicity and plagiarism of
material and has translated words in own words(Taylor, Bogdan and DeVault, 2015).
P6 Finding and recommendation
Finding: From the above study it can be found that the multinational companies
in UK impact on business environment of UK. The multinational companies increase the
competition among the existing domestic companies in the host companies. Political
freedom is the major reason to encourage the companies to expand business in UK.
Political freedom helps the businesses to propagate beyond the boundaries of the
nation. Also it is studied that BMW helped in raising economic conditions of UK.
Economic conditions of UK are improved by the increase in the GDP and FDI in the

country. BMW hires local citizens in host country to great extent. There is great amount
of employment opportunities with the coming of the multinational companies as it is cost
effective for BMW to employ the local people rather than inviting the outside people.
There are no operational and manufacturing activities which effect the environmental
conditions of the host country. It was found that the company BMW meets it corporate
social responsibilities for the host company that is UK. The company BMW focuses on
its social responsibilities by involving less harmful equipments in there company so that
it causes less pollution in the environment. There are many establishment of gardens
and parks for the plantation. On the establishment of the multinational company BMW
in the country UK there is improvement in the business environment of UK as the
company brings with it new technologies and methods in improving the industries.
Recommendation: from the above findings it can be recommended that along
with origin country of BMW, company should also concentrate on the host country and
involve in the cultural activities of the host company. This will result in the
establishment of stronger bond between the company and the people in UK which in
turn helps in the growth and development of the company. Also the company BMW
should meet its corporate social responsibilities by reducing the amount of pollution
caused by the auto mobile industries.

P7 Reflection
While carrying out research I developed a brief understanding about my
project topic. I was having poor technical skills but this study has helped me in
developing my technical knowledge and raising my knowledge about various digital
technologies and their application that I was unaware about Gantts Chart and work
break down chart and how to divide the task into sub activities. But this study helped me
to improved my knowledge about these aspects and now I am able to make work break
down structure by own. I was having good communication skill. This skill of mine has
helped me in communicating with respondents and making them comfortable so that
they can share their views easily. Apart from that I have faced issues like limited
financial resources. I was required funds to collect data and for transportation. Limited

availability of financial resources has created issue but effective management has
helped me in completing this research on time with quality. In addition to this I have
learned about various tools of research methodology that are used in different types of
researchers. this has increased my knowledge and now I am able to apply various
method as per the nature of project. It has increased my practical knowledge regarding
the topic.
As per considering the outcomes from the data collection session where it can be
said that the impact of multinational companies may affect the overall performance of
the organisation. It will have influences in the operations, technical support as well as
market share of the organisation for the long run of operations.
CONCLUSION
From the above study it can be concluded that for managing operation of
companies there should be proper project plan regarding scope time communication
and quality. .in addition to this it can be identified that for efficient results breaking down
of work it is necessary .Apart from that it can be concluded that globalisation of MNC
has increased the competition as well as created employment opportunities. Also it has
various environmental, social and economical impact on the business environment of
UK. It can be further identified that these companies needs to expand for carrying
management by professionals. Business operation needs to be managed properly so
that its negative impacts on environment can be stopped.
