INTRODUCTION
Management of a business organisation is a crucial task that include and involve many
activities and process to maintain the growth and success of organisations. These important task
and activity includes keeping proper coordination among all the employees within the
organisations and also involve timely research and analysis to keep a phase and balance with
different factors of external and macro environment which includes influence of political, legal,
social and other aspects (Schurman, 2018). As the issues of discrimination and inequality is
rising in corporate world thus, to maintain the positive environment and unbiased business
environment a law was implemented by parliament of UK which is known as equality act, 2010
the main aim of which is to form a basis for anti discrimination law in Britain and across
different location of UK.
For this assignment the chosen organisations is EAT (the real Food Co Ltd) which offers
fresh fresh deli food and beverages through more than 95 branches and stores across UK. The
assignment includes project objectives and aims together with a project management plan that
covers various aspects like, cost, scope, time, etc. Along with this a work break down structure
and Gantt chart is also there to provide and meet the timefrmaes and various stages for
completions. Beside this, a small scale research is also carried out by applying qualitative and
quantitative research method. Further, analysis of research and interpretation of collected data is
also made and finally appropriate recommendations and reflection is also there.

P1) Project aims and objectives
Background of project
To maintain efficient coordination and to properly direct and guide all employees towards
a common goal it is essential for an governance to hold out fairness and equality at its business
premises and workplace (Soronen, 2018). To maintain this fairness and unbiased atmosphere at
workplace the concept of equality and diversity is enhancing and many laws and act are
formulated like equality act 2010. The term equality is concerned with providing and ensuring

equal opportunity and chances for all employees irrespective of their age, race, gender
reassignment, , sexual orientation, religion or belief, etc. On the other hand, diversity is related
and associated with managing differences and gap between individuals and groups belong to
different characteristics to have a positive value among them. As the situations and cases of
discrimination are increasing at workplace and society of UK thus, a new strengthening
protection act i.e. Equality act 2010 was formed with the aim of improving the effectiveness of
equality legislation and strengthening, harmonising and streamlining the equality and anti
discrimination policies in all the organisation of UK (Ahmad, Aibinu, and Stephan, 2019).
This project work is associated with a research on concept of equality and diversity with
regard to the provision of Equality act 2010. For that purpose the chosen organisation is EAT
(the real Food Co Ltd) which is basically a chain of sandwich shops and other beverages with
around 95 branches around different location of UK. The headquarter of EAT is at Villiers street,
London, UK. A variety of food items is provide by this food retailer and restaurants company
which includes sandwiches, soups, pies, salads, wraps, sushi, desserts, and baked goods. Beside
this, EAT (the Real Food Company) also offers a variety of cold drinks, juices, and coffees to its
customers across the UK (Etemad and Dulude, 2018). It is basically a medium sized
organisations of UK but as the size of this organisation is increasing and approaching new
locations and diverse culture of UK and the nature of business is also associated with direct
interaction with customers and a large number of local employees are also employed by EAT
company thus, issue relayed with management of equality and diversity are increasing to
maintain the fairness at workplace and within the business premises. Therefore this research is
conducted which is having following aim and objective:

the aim of this research conducted on EAT company is, “To conduct an investigation
and inquiry about the conception of equality and diversity prevailing at the workplace in
respect with the provisions and regulations of Equality act 2010.”

organisation that made it necessary for all organisation to understand and evaluate the
importance of having equality and diversity within their workplace and overall organisation to
have better operations and capabilities. Beside this, many act and legal regulations like equality
act 2010 are also set by government to ensure equality and better working conditions for
employees at workplace. Therefore, selection of this topic is significant and rational to get better
understanding about these provision and acts associated with equality and diversity. Further, this
project is also useful from academic point of view of researcher and yield better knowledge to
researcher and lead to improvement in skills and educational qualification.

Happening in the food industry and what companies are doing at this moment
As per the view point of Alexis Krivkovich and Marie-Claude Nadeau, 2017, a greater
level of gender inequity is seen in Food industry but there are some companies that are making
great strides in enhancing the representation of women in food industry. It has been also
evaluated that food industry is also leading many economical benefits and a more equitable and
ethical workplace facilitates a triple bottom line of socially responsible business. Therefore, EAT
organisation is also making more emphasis on creation of an equal workforce together with more
inclusive manpower through complying with the provisions of equality act 2010.
Various provisions and regulations set by Equality act 2010
According to the John Martyn Chamberlain, 2015, Equality act 2010 is basically a new
strengthening protection that was formed with the main motto of improving and leading better
effectiveness of equality legislation trough harmonising, strengthening and streamlining the
equality and other anti discrimination policies in all the organisation of UK through better
implication and adoption of equality act 2010. this act has facilitated harmonisation among
various discrimination law and lead to a support in progress of equality and diversity in all
organisation of UK.
Various forms and types of discriminations prevailing within the business premises of EAT
company
As per the view point of Alison Doyle, 2019, the various form of discrimination that are
mainly found at workplace of any organisation and at business premises of EAT company
includes Age, Gender, Race, Ethnicity, Skin Colour, National Origin, Mental or Physical
Disability, Genetic Information, Relationship to someone who may be discriminated against and
Pregnancy or Parenthood that hamper or lead reduction in moral of employees.
Possible strategies and policies that can be adopted by an organisations to manage equality and
diversity
As per the view point of Clare Mulligan, 2020, the best strategies and ways that can be
adopted by an organisation to effectively manage equality and diversity includes, motivate all
leaders and employees to set good example in order to influence them to have better equality and
diversity. Beside this, regular and clear communication about diversity polices is also an
effective way together with timely training and education about importance of equality and
diversity to have better management within the organisation. Further, formation of an inclusive

committee and unbiased HR practises and management are also an effective ways to have better
equality and diversity at workplace.

Project management plan refers to one of document that describes project phases in
detailed and cohesive manner. It comprises initiations, thinking, carrying into action,
observation, controlling addition to closing phases concerned with project (Haass and Guzman,
2019). The managers as well as researchers are responsible for preparing the project management
plan as it provides guidelines to the entire team to achieve success. It involves various subsidiary
plans, essential planning documents together with baselines. It is prepared with the objective of
providing addition to defining detailed project conceptualisation and deliver guidances in easy
manner. Few of elemental components that are within project management plan includes the

theoretical data to have a detailed knowledge of behaviours and attitude of respondents.
Quantitative research method- It is a method that is used for acquiring data in form of
numbers, frequency or other statistical or numerical form and provide information about brief

For this particular research use of both qualitative and quantitative research method is
made as qualitative data provides better information about opinion and attitude of peoples while

basically there are two main source of data which are as follows:
Primary source- This sources provides first hand and most authentic form of data which
are not used or modified by any other previous researcher. For this research use of an
questionnaire is made to collect reliable and authentic data from primary source.
Secondary source- It mainly related with the data which is already in existence and
collected for some past research. Use of textbook, journal articles, newspapers, magazine articles
and other online websites are made to collect secondary data for this research (Soronen, 2018).
Sampling is a process or method which is utilized by an research to choice a pre
determined number of observance and units from a large population to maintain the efficiency
and cost effectiveness of research (Ahmad, Aibinu, and Stephan, 2019). For this particular
research, the researcher has made used of Random sampling method to remove and eliminate
the chances of all possible Biasness while conducting this research.
For this research out of all stakeholders of EAT( the Real Food) company which includes
it directors, top authority, managers, business partners and associates, clients, suppliers,
customers, etc. a sample of 30 respondents is selected to have their perception and opinion about
the current topic “Equality and diversity at workplace.” For the purpose of data collection and

method) while 4 are open ended questions (qualitative research).

point if maximum respondents it is necessary for EAT company to properly manage equality
and diversity at its work premises so that an effective coordination and bonding can be
established among employees belongs to different groups so that objectives can be achieved
efficiently. Beside this, it is also necessary for EAT company to comply with provisions of
Equality act,2010 to eliminate the chances of legal claims and consequences in future.
P6) Recommendation
On the basis of evaluation of above findings following recommendations can be made for
EAT ( the real Food Co Ltd) organisation:
an effective leadership style like democratic leadership style should be adopted by EAT
company to develop an effective bonding and affection between employees coming from
diverse environment to properly motivate and direct them towards a common goal.
Beside this an effective leadership style also ensures reduction in issues of equality and
diversity through facilitating effective participation of all employees in decision making
without any discrimination thus, boost the overall moral and performance of employees
and organisation as a whole.
Unbiased HR practises are also recommended for EAT company to reduce the issue of
gender pay gap, recruitment on the basic of social culture framework and promotion on
sexual basis so that an more effective and positive atmosphere and workplace can be
provided to employees to develop a inclusive workforce for betterment of organisation.
Beside this, proper compliance and adoption of provisions and rules of Equality act, 2010
are also recommended to have better management and creation of equality and diversity
at workplace and to reduce chances of future legal claims and litigation.

The overall journey of conducting this research is very informative and knowledgeable
for me which has enhanced my knowledge on various aspects of research. I got a deep
information and analysis about concept of equality and diversity along with the knowledge about
provisions of Equality act, 2010. A deep understanding about the ways that has lead to increase
in issues of equality and diversity has identified with me together with the benefits this concept.
Beside this, the important role played by Equality act, 2010 in harmonizing all discrimination
law and strengthening equality and anti discrimination at workplaces is also understood by me.
Use of various tools are made by me for meeting the objectives of this research which includes a
project management plan for effective planning about resources, cost and other aspects. Further
use of a WBS and Gantt chart is also made to met the timefrmaes of project. A small scale
research is also conducted by me which includes use of both qualitative and quantitative research
method together with collection of data through primary and secondary source.
A number of issues and problems are also faced by me associated with lack of
appropriate amount of resources and insufficient time. Further it is also difficult to maintain an
effective bonding dan communication among team members. All these issues are properly solved
by me through adopting use of various statistical method and many team bonding activities are
also conducted. Thus, overall this research has enhanced my commination and other
interpersonal skills and has created many future opportunity for me.
CONCLUSION
On the basis of above assignment it can be concise that research is having a significant role
in efficient decision making of an organisation. Specific aims and objective are set to met the
criteria of research and use of project management plan is also made for having effective
planning. Beside this use of project management tools such as Gantt chart and WBS is made to
meet the prescribed stages of research. Use of quantitative and quantitative research methods are
made to collect opinion of respondent and for their analysis. At last use of thematic approach of
presentation is made for effectively communicating the findings with use of pie chart.
