INTRODUCTIONKnowledge and information has been gaining its importance as the business environmentis getting more complex. These are considered important during strategy formation and decisionmaking process. Many organisations have developed framework which provides direction andhelp in the management of communication, information and knowledge related resources (VonKrogh, 2012). The report analyses the communication and information system in Google.Furthermore, the need and value of personal networking in the organisation has also beenincluded. Google is an American multinational company which is popular for its search engineand internet related services (Google company, 2016). It has been in the business for more than17 years and it has become a global technology leader. It has also won many awards for the bestcompany.TASK 11.1 Range of decisions taken by the Google management for expansion in UK Google has been growing at a rapid pace and for further expansion in UK it has toformulate new strategies. The decisions making process is different when compared to othercompanies. There are several teams who take part in solving the problem and gather real life datato support the decisions (Steps to improve your decision making, 2015). So it is not a companywhere the decisions are taken by the top management and then delegated downwards. Expansionin UK is a huge decision and lot of things have to be kept in mind before execution:Strategic plan: Google has to form a strategy for the expansion. This will be helpful inguiding the company to establish its business in UK. Initially, they have to identify the sources offinance and location for expanding their business. The policies and plan have to be implementedand everything should be done step by step (Borghoff and Pareschi, 2013). The seniormanagement has to play a major role in strategy formation and execution.Source of finance: The funds for expansion have to be generated. Google can make useof loans, retained earnings, debentures or equity (Dalkir, 2013). It would be better for thecompany to take loan in UK itself. This will reduce the risk of currency fluctuation and will helpin expansion. Location: Company has to ensure that they target bigger cities first. After settingbusiness in those cities the business could be expanded to smaller cities as well. Google canexpand their business from cities like Durham, Derby, Stoke, Lincoln, Liverpool and Coventry.

UK business laws: The laws and regulations of UK have to be carefully studied. Thelaws are different in America and UK. So Google has to incorporate relevant changes so that allthe rules are complied. The important laws of UK are Companies Act, Corporate GovernanceAct, European Union Directories, UK labour laws and Listing directories (Coombs, 2014).Selection, recruitment and personnel development: The selection and recruitmentprocess of Google is quite challenging. They have to ensure that the same procedure is adoptedin UK as well. It will ensure that only highly competent and skilful workers are appointed(Bloom and et.al., 2014). The employees have to be developed and trained so that their skills canbe improved and the same level can be maintained in all the countries.1.2 Information and knowledge needed to ensure effective decision makingThe expansion strategy requires different types of information and knowledge. Googlehas to ensure that their information system is based on UK only otherwise the entire plan wouldnot be successful. There are three levels of information that Google has to evaluate:Strategic Level: These decisions are taken by the top level and senior management of thecompany. Google has to decide the market and area of expansion. So the information andknowledge required at this level are often detailed and consumes lot of time (Staab and Studer,2013). The source of finance, size of the company, competition, training programmes, laws andregulations all have to be carefully studied.Tactical Level: At this level, small and quantitative type of information is required.These are required by the middle level of management (Steps to improve your decision making,2015). For making the expansion successful the middle level managers of Google have to ensurethat the workflow is maintained, structures are determined and all the resources are in alignmentwith the objectives of the company. Operational Level: The operational level requires information regarding sales,inventory, accounting and other details which have impact on the performance. Google needsdata for the daily operations of the company at this level.Managers also include knowledge related activities in their decision making. The twotypes of knowledge which are required by Google are tacit and explicit. The explicit knowledgecan be easily transmitted to others and stored. So all the information regarding procedures,process, products and human skills are needed (Reed and Knight, 2013).
