TITLE
To manage diversity in the UK society and focus will be on sex discrimination.
INTRODUCTION
Diversity and managing the same is a topic which is directly associated with bringing
equality among the male and females so that both get same opportunities to develop. It is a
sensitive issue as inequality in gender has a great impact on the performance of an organisation
as well as on the society (Bilgehan, 2011). It is necessary that the importance of bringing
equality is realised and has to ensure that no discrimination should be done on the any basis be it
race, colour creed or gender. As the situation is changing it is seen that even women can perform
each task hence they should not be considers less than any other. Globalization has brought
various platforms for females too where they can easily share their capabilities and show that
they are equivalent to men. In the following report various solutions will be given towards how it
can be managed and why it is necessary to manage diversity in the sexual discrimination.
AIM
To control heterogeneity in UK society
RESEARCH OBJECTIVES
To study the current position of Diversification in UK society.
To analyse the effects of sexual discrimination.
To investigate on ways how diversification can be managed.
RESEARCH QUESTIONS
1. What is meant by managing diversity?
2. What is the level of diversification in UK society?
3. How diversification can be managed?
4. What are the impact of sexual discrimination?

RATIONALE OF THE STUDY
What is the research issue?
In the present scenario diversity is observed in the different sections of the society due to
caste culture, gender etc. When people are treated differently or discriminated on these grounds a
negative feeling is developed which further leads to different issues (Griffin, 2013). The most
common grounds on which difference among the individuals is done is gender as it is the most
visible problem prevailing in the society. In order to minimise the effects and conflicts it is
necessary that these issues are resolved so that sentiments of no individual is harmed and
equality is maintained. Apart from this to guarantee growth in society it is necessary that sexual
inequalities are minimised to minimum. Hence, this is the major issue behind the research
conducted.
Why is it an issue?
Managing diversity is an issue because in the society everyone is not given the equal
rights and treated differently. There are no specific grounds of this practice but is continuing
since a long time. It is necessary that people are provided with same treatment and for same to
manage diversity is necessary (Tomlinson and Schwabenl, 2010). This has become an issue
because its negative impacts are now increasing rapidly as society is experiencing various
problems due to the variation in treatment given to boys and girls.
Why is it an issue now?
It has become an issue now because the negative impact of sexual discrimination has now
raised to a great level that it has become necessary to bring control over this practice. It is
realised that if the discrimination is managed than the performance of work place can be
improved and positive change in the society can be brought. It has become a challenge to
manage this practice as it is a very old belief that women are weaker than in comparison to
males. Hence females are given less remuneration at work place and are also considered to be
less important in the society. It is important that realisation of need is done to give women equal
position and consider them equally important.

What could this research shed light on?
The given research will highlight on the importance of bringing equality in the society in
all the aspects especially with regard to the discrimination done on gender basis. It is due to the
reason that when people are treated differently it demotivate them and affect them. The study
will show how development can be brought by giving equal importance to people from different
backgrounds, culture and gender so that positive move can be observed in the UK society. For
this a literature review will be done which will show define what exactly diversity is and how it
is affecting the environment (Kirton and Greene, 2015). The advantages of managing diversity
will also be discussed which will further put light on why it is an important issue. This will help
in bringing awareness among the distinct groups of society and hence better conditions may be
brought in the work place along with the society.
LITERATURE REVIEW
Defining diversity
Rodríguez-García, (2010) says that diversity refers the different groups of people
belonging to different backgrounds. The difference can be on any basis like change in culture,
background gender caste or any other. In order to maintain balance in the society it is necessary
that everyone is treated equally and given the same platform. Prenzler and Sinclair, (2013)
believes that to manage the differences is tough due to the fact that people do not want change or
resist to change and want to continue the same practices of past. But to manage the same is
necessary so that the society is taken to the next progressive level and
Importance of managing diversity
According to Ashley, (2010) if the society or any company wants to experience growth
and expansion than it is necessary that it manages diversity to great extent. It is essential that
keeping control over the diversification becomes a part of culture. It was suggested that to
achieve the organisational goals and objectives this is important that every individual is treated
equally and no favouritism is done on the grounds of caste gender culture etc. Bell and et.al.,
(2011) said that the biggest reason behind the failure of utilising the opportunity major concern is
the inequality which is present in the society. In views of Managing diversity and equality in the
workplace (2016) differences are more important than sharing the common features as this way
the growth is restricted. When dissimilar minds interact they come with more effective ideas
3

which can further lead to expansion. The visible difference like gender, class or caste is not a
right criteria to judge the capabilities of an individual as the skills of an individual depends upon
his/her inner strength to perform the task.
Booysen and Nkomo, (2010) says that although by doing the discrimination in men and
women organisations can save much cost as females are paid less than in comparison to males
considering them to be weak. But this way the morale and the level of motivation of women also
declines which ultimately has impact on their performance. Therefore, indirectly this will
ultimately effect the profitability of the firm and hence the loss will be suffered. Therefore, it is
better if equal opportunities are provided to both the genders as this way a positive and health
surroundings can be developed and hence the results will be influenced in the same manner.
After this Huffman, Cohen and Pearlman, (2010) focussed on the implications of
diversification on the work place. He suggested that if equality is not maintain in an organisation
than there are higher chance of losing the competitive advantage. It is due to the reason that
globalization demands different skills and hence it is necessary that the human resource do not
restrict the work force of a single variety than it would be difficult for them to survive for longer
time period. Else, still the similarity is maintain than management will have to invest a good
amount in training the work force to acquire various skills and hence the cost of organisation will
rise. It is observed that women are observed to be very few at work place as they are not treated
equal to male and hence given less job opportunities. There, are different ways through which
diversity in the culture can be maintained.
Tomlinson and Schwabenl, (2010) suggested that to manage the diversification at work
place human resource can take the responsibility. It should be under their controls that everyone
is given equal rights and chance to show their skills. It should be given care that the proper ratio
of male and females is maintained and intentionally no difference is done in the process of
recruitment considering females to be less beneficial for the organisation. Managing
diversification in will be less complicated if group efforts are taken in this context and common
objectives are established. Different laws are formulated in order to protect unfair practices
against females like the equality law, minimum wage act, right to safety etc.
Dovidio, (2010) says that in order to manage the diversification in sexual differences
implementation of these laws should be checked and must be ensured that strict actions are taken
against those who violates them. This will to a great extent will contribute in bringing equality

and hence the standards of females could be raised. In the view of Zanoni and et.al., (2010)
gender inequality is a major issue which is observed and present in society and creating a debate.
To manage this bringing equality has made one of the major goal of the government so that the
condition of females can be improved. It is observed in the society that women are stopped from
going at work due to the reason that they are females still if they have acquired good knowledge.
This is due to the old beliefs that men are the only breadwinners and all the rights are in their
hands. They believe that ladies should be confined to homes and manage the household work.
It is highlighted in the views of Kirton and Greene (2015) that diversity can be managed
if the society is given knowledge about bringing equality in all the aspects be it gender, culture,
caste or race. When they will realise the positive outcomes of same it will become easy to
establish a society where everyone will be treated equally. Broadbridge and Simpson (2011)
highlighted on the areas which are in favour of brining equal treatment for males and females.
He shows that if women are given equal chance to show their skills tan they can contribute in the
development of society as well as in improving the living standards of an individual. Different
strategies like gender equality main streaming is another tool formulated to manage the condition
of females and to bring them at equal level. Under this technique requirement of individual is
recognised so that accordingly they can be served too.
Impact of managing diversity in UK society
Barak, (2016) says that with the continuous rise in diversification it has become vital to
manage the differences so that benefits can be maximised of having diverse population. It was
argued that by managing it the capacity of an enterprise could be raised to a great level as when
distinct talent holders will work under the same roof they will come with better solutions and
suggestions to any problem arising during the operations of business. Instead of wasting
resources on doing discrimination efforts should be taken on establishing a common goal and
vision so that everyone contribute towards it.
According to Thompson, (2016) when everyone is adequately irrespective of their caste
or gender etc. they come with useful insights which may significantly be utilised to accomplish
the objectives of the organisation. Apart from this it is also suggested by him that by bringing
equality at work place turnovers can be reduced which will further help in controlling the cost of
recruitment in at the work place. When it is ensured that everyone will be treated equally a
change can be observed in the society too.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
Introduction
Whenever any work is done a set process is being followed using different methods
which is known as the research methodologies. They are the different tools which help in the
collection of data and hence presenting the same to the user. It is necessary that according to the
nature and type of research the mode is selected as this will have a direct impact on the quality of
data collected. Survey, sampling, research design etc. are the distinct concepts which are covered
under this study. Every aspect of the research methodology is discussed below in brief.
Research Philosophy
It is a conviction of the researcher that are incorporate into the exploration rationality that
are related to the ways that assist them to successfully gather, study and present results. Along
these lines, it predominantly help the researcher to examine the different sources that help with
upgrading the information and also nature of research work (Gale and et.al., 2013). Thusly, using
reasonable investigation rationality that prompts adequately influencing on the end results of the
assessed theme of research. There are the two sort of research reasoning stated positivism and
interpretive.
From that point, the primary research belief is a positivism that are fundamentally
concentrate on the principle assessing research goals. It additionally help them to basically
concentrate on discovering the wrong actualities that are from the principle point of the
examination. Hence, in these positivism examine that are done the primary test perceptions. The
principle profits by these examination reasoning which help the agent to get just valuable data
that are acquiring from the perceptions. In this manner, it will limit the part of the researcher that
they just barely gather the data and furthermore translate these with the end goal of making the
determination. Along these lines, it help them in principally accomplishing the goals of research
with the end goal of lead the examination and turn out with the most ideal arrangement of the
exploration point.
Besides, this one more research theory is also there which is an interpretive which are
significantly concentrate on the subjective part the exploration think about in that it significantly
incorporates are different sort s of models and hypotheses (Roberts, 2013). Accordingly, it
incorporates a person under the examination as these are truly required in which the researcher
translate the information that are gathered from the specific research resource. In this way, to get
6

the successful results from the exploration rationality make them practical and it addition give
information which is connected to the investigation objectives.
Research Plan
It is a general procedure that encourages the researcher to incorporate a different parts of
exploration in intelligent way. In this manner, it makes the researcher capable to successfully
experience the primary research issue in most proficient way. It can be taken as an outline for
getting and assessing the data. Consequently, it help with setting up the layout that are concern
with investigating different destinations where research can be conducted. From there on, these
exploration configuration likewise help with gathering the successful information that are
identified with the examination point. It significantly incorporates three different sorts of
research configuration which are descriptive, designing of research and exploration of
investigation (Mackey and Gass, 2015).
Research approach
It is the successful strategies that lead the examination that are either particular or general
way. In this way, it is the ground breaking strategy which distinguish the diverse strategies which
gather and assess them in a same way. There are two sort of research approach like primarily
deductive and inductive. Accordingly, these inductive examines can be characterize a route
under which there is a foundation of speculations which are on the premise of information
accessible. The fundamental point of these inductive research is to deal with the powerful
outcomes which are getting structure of essential sources. There is an approach that is deductive
research approach which likewise assumes a vital part in which it test the current hypotheses that
are viable to examine subject (Neuman and Robson, 2014).
Research methodology
There are different kind of research that assist the specialist to acquire the required data
and furthermore help them in surveying the data in successful way. It can be divided into the
subjective and quantitative technique. The quantitative technique is a noteworthy concentrate as
it helps in collecting immense data.. Depending on the need and nature of data the use of
different available tool is done. Use of techniques like survesy and literature rewivew will be
done through which much of data can eb collected.
Information accumulation strategies
7
Document Page
There are different kinds of information gathering techniques which are utilized by the
researcher to viably lead the exploration in powerful way. There are of two sort of options
available one is the essential and the other is secondary source. It assist in acquiring the
information. In primary method information is acquire by the researcher himself and on the
other source which is secondary data is collected from already available sources. For instance
the data is collected from net or text which was collected by someone else. (Smith, 2015).
Sampling methods
This is utilized by the agent when the information is collected from the primary resources
so that first hand data is collected which is latest. There are two sorts of strategies under this
technique which are likelihood and non-likelihood. Accordingly, investigator receives the
irregular examining techniques in which the required information about the subject matter is
collected using questionnaire.
Information Analysis.
At this step qualitative technique is utilized by the researcher with the end goal of
understanding information data. The data will be analysied using different tools and techniques
like presenting the observations on graph and tables. These tools are effective in itself as
extraction of results is easy through this (Smith, 2015).
Ethical consideration
It is important that whenever the research is conducted all the ethical aspects are
maintained. For this, the exploration must be done in reasonable way as it should be ensured that
no unfair practice is adopted while working on the project so that the research can be refereed to
be ethically approved (Neuman and Robson, 2014).
TIMETABLE
To complete the project within given time frame, it is necessary that proper planning is
done. This helps in analysing the time that will be required to complete each activity. This will
further help in taking the required actions prior and during the research is conducted. Activites
which will be identified as an important one will be given more priority and accordingle time
duration will also be assigned.
