Strengths and weaknesses of different approaches to recruitment and selection
There are various different kinds of recruitment and selection approaches that can be used
by Marks and Spencer. Each of these approaches has their own strengths and weakness. Some of
the most important recruitment and selection approaches and their strengths and weaknesses
have been explained below:
Advertising:
Strengths: It is one of the most easiest type of recruitment and selection approach that can
help an organization in reaching large number of candidates easily. It can help in finding
appropriate candidates in short duration of time period. Marks and Spencer focuses upon
social media advertising in which they put job advert on social media platforms so that
desired candidates can reach to them in short time period because today social media
platforms are used by most of the employees (Krylov and et. al., 2019).
Weaknesses: it is a costly process because if advertisement is given on print media then it
will cost organization for giving advertisement on print media. It is required to be placed
properly and communicated in an adequate manner then it can result in miscommunication.
Internal promotions: this approach is most commonly used by Marks and Spencer as it not only
help them in filling vacant position but also helps in enhancing overall motivational level of
employees
Strengths: Existing employees can be directly promoted within organization as per their
skills, qualities and knowledge. This helps in enhancing overall motivation of employees so
