2MANAGING PEOPLE AND ORGANISATIONSincludes transmission of various information, beliefs, instructions, concepts, facts and ideas. While, intrapersonal communication is a process of communicating within oneself, it occurswhen an individual has a thought (Beck et al. 2012). Interpersonal communication can be definedas the process of communicating or sharing thoughts between two people. Group communicationoccurs when three or more than three people communicate on the same topic or discuss commonfacts, sharing their individual opinions and thoughts one at a time. In addition to this, masscommunication takes place when a person addresses a large mass with the help of a medium thatcan either be print or electric (Broadbent 2013). Mass communication can be identified in the following situation; a politician delivering aspeech, addressing the whole country where there are press officials broadcasting the speech. Here the press is the medium, which covers the whole incident in order to enable the nation toread or watch it. Therefore, “mass” here is considered as the people to whom the politician, thatis the sender, is delivering the message. In case of mass communication, sender delivers messageto the huge number of audiences present (Castells 2013), it is regarded as one-waycommunication. In this form of communication the receivers’ participation is minimal. Feedbackof the mass is not easily acquired in the case of such communication, due to restrictive barriersset by the sender. However, there are many digital media platforms that have started to open thedoors allowing the mass to sending feedback in various forms like comments and updates, theresponse from this is quite minimal. Mass communication is such a restrictive form and thereforeallows greater risk for misunderstandings and problems (Coombs 2014).In the post bureaucratic era, several leaders have contributed to the management ofcommunication. Several academic works, related to charismatic and transformational leadershipstyles have contributed to management of communication. Scholars like Aristotle, have

The Shannon and Weaver model of Communication(Figure: Shannon and Weaver Communication ModelSource: Al-Fedaghi 2012)In the year 1948, Claude Shannon and Warren Weaver designed a linear communicationmodel that was later regarded as the “mother of all models”. In the communication model, message is sent by the information source via transmitter which is the encoder. The message thenpasses through a channel or medium; after which it reaches to the decoder, who further decodesthe message. The decoder here sends the message to the destination, who is the receiver. Decoderis the technological channel, that is, a telephone. Noise is a particular element that causesphysical disturbances, such as people, environment and more. Noise acts as a barrier and doesn’t
