INTRODUCTION Managing people means developing, growing and organising the performance of employees in order to accomplish the business goals and objectives. It is a procedure of providing training, directing and motivating the workforce for improving the productivity and growth of business. The staff can be managed effectively by hiring the right candidate, measuring the staff performance, encouraging employees to give their opinion, set clear goals and objectives and reward for their hard work. The project is based on managing people in which a detailed explanation of Employee Induction and its importance are discussed including its process and value in Modern Workplace. Value and Importance of Employee Induction in the Modern Workplace Employee Induction Employee Induction is an activity of introducing newly recruited candidate to the process and culture of Organisation. It is conducted to make new employees feel comfortable with the workplace and its environment so that they become socially comfortable and know their professional responsibilities(Cattermole, 2019). Thus, Employee Induction program helps in settling new joiner’s and provides detailed information of their roles and responsibilities in Company. It is also known as Orientation, which helps in making new staff familiar with fellow workers,subordinates,superiors.Managerensuresnewemployeemustbeawareof Organisational policies, culture and its rules and regulation in order to work in effective and efficient manner. Some of the Companies don’t organise Employee Induction program as they feel this function can be performed by colleagues or subordinates of the new candidate. But many Organisations lay emphasis on conducting the program as it helps in reducing the issues of adaptability and adjustment to new working environment due to which the rate of turnover also get decreased(Ganesh, 2016). The main objective of Employee Induction is to develop rapport between firm and new staff and make them feel valuable part of business. Few Goals of EmployeeInductionistosettlenewcandidates,makethemunderstandabouttheir responsibilities and what is expected of them and ensures Organisation must receive benefit of them.
Importance of Employee Induction Employee Induction programme helps in integrating new employees into company and make them familiar with its systems, culture, process and value. There are various importances of Employee Induction they are as follows: Shows professionalism of Business: Employee induction helps in creating strong image of company by welcoming new hires and making them comfortable with the workplace. For Organising the Induction function, a proper planning is required so that new employees can be introduced in formalised way. It shows the professionalism of business as Organisation works in professional standard by managing their existing and new staff(Andrews and Turner, 2017). Helps in settling new employee: Employee Induction program provide a structure in order to make new employees settle with their roles and responsibilities. Manager provides training benefits to new hires so that they can accomplish the long term and short term goals of business. For running the business in effective way, it is important to make staff feel comfortable with the integration process and workplace culture of Organisation. Reduces turnover rate of employees: Employee Induction also helps in reducing turnover rate of employees as it provide detailed information of Organisation and build initial relationship with colleagues, boss and job so that they feel better while working in Company(Baker, 2017). By providing effective training to new hires reduces the turnover rate of staff and also builds satisfaction among them. Establish Good Communication: Theprogramalsohelpsinestablishinggoodcommunicationasnewcandidateis introduced to their supervisors and colleagues in order to build relationship. Through employee induction, staff can understand the particular communication path that is used inside the Organisation. For hiring the right talent, it is necessary to satisfy their need and make them feel valuable part of firm. Application Pack: The Application pack includes the detailed information of Organisation, its terms and conditions and job description of the vacant position. Through application pack company can provide their insight views and culture of working and also make candidate aware about the conditions and contract of business. Pre-Employment Handbook:
It is an introductory letter for the person who is selected for the vacant job profile. The Pre-Employment Handbook includes the few points which employees need to consider while joining on first day(Rasca, 2018). It includes the time and place where new hires should arrive, transport arrangements, dress code, catering facilities, name of manager, list of documents required and outline of the work on first day. Through Pre-employment handbook, employees can predict what is going to happen on first day. The Handbook material will be successful when new hires say the first day was as expected. Primary Induction: Primary Induction is face to face round between the employer and new candidate. It is conducted to address the needs and requirements of employer and new employee such as Conveniences, health and safety, personal details, important documents and other information. In primary induction, employer ensures that new joiner’s must know the time recording procedure, rules about phone use, health and safety rules, location of workplace and introduce to their immediate colleagues and supervisors. Modern Workplace Modern workplace depicts the reality of how people want to work in this competitive environment. It includes the digital tools that help businesses to develop modern workplace and fulfil the need and requirements of people. The Modern Workplace is becoming more responsive to problem and also focusing more on remote working. It is created by rethinking traditional roles, investing more in employees, making the most of the technology and provides a purpose of working. Organization must create modern workplace culture in order to attract more and more investors and employees so that they gain competitive advantage over its competitors. Modern workplace culture helps in engaging employees in open dialogues and also builds trust among employees to manage their work schedules (Macarenko and et. al., 2016). For Example, Microsoft focuses on creating modern workplace by providing facility to their employees to work from anywhere. Modern workplace helps in increasing the productivity and also improves the collaboration of Organisation. Value and Importance of Employee Induction in Modern Workplace In Modem workplace, it is important to organise employee induction program in order to integrate new employees into company and make them familiar with new working environment. Through employee induction in modern workplace helps in attracting and retaining talent
employees as they prefer to work in company that provide and guide them on each stage of work so that they can contribute their best efforts in accomplishing the goals and objectives of business. Employees want to work with company that provide various benefits and satisfy their needs(LechnerandPaul,2019).Organisationmustprovideflexiblescheduling,growth opportunities, work from home arrangements, health and safety benefits and positive working environment. Employee Induction in modern workplace helps in improving the morale of employee and also reduces the training cost of recruitment. In Employee induction program, Manager must provide detailed information of the working process and system used so that new hires can be aware of its modern workplace environment and knows more about the modern software used by Organisation. For becoming competitive in Market, it is important to follow the emerging trends and focus on adopting new change. CONCLUSION From the above information it is being concluded that employee induction is integral part of Organisation which focuses on welcoming new candidates and create a positive and friendly atmosphere for them so that they become familiar with the workplace. It is necessary to encourage and motivate the employees for gaining competitive advantage and improving the productivity of business.
