PERSONAL STATEMENT2 PERSONAL STATEMENT: MASTER OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION (MBA) According to me, Master of Business Administration is not just a career path; it is all about passion, doing what one’s heart and mind are deeply rooted in. Gaining better chances of promotion at work associated with a higher salary, developing appropriate managerial skills in line with current market requirements, gaining access to a large business network and the insight to start my own company from scratch (Bean, 2015)are some of the reasons that have driven me into this field. This is the reason why I took my time to discuss it with my family and all of them were of the opinion that I should venture into this field. These reasons have been my motivational factors in deciding to take an MBA course at the university. An MBA degree is among the most prestigious postgraduate degrees which is mainly held in high respect in the business and financial community. My main career aspiration for taking this course is that it will increase my chances of working for a company of my choice and also increase my employability rate (Flew, T. (2006). Currently, my areas of study include Diploma in Business Administration, Associate degree in Business Administration and Level 8 (postgraduate) Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership. The fields I liked the most while studying these programs are Finance, Marketing, Information Technology (IT), International Business and Banking among others. I happened to like these fields because they are the ones I have been engaging in passionately and will be of great importance in this postgraduate degree I have chosen. They are core to anyone who has set his future in the Business Administration world. The knowledge gained from these disciplines will be of great importance since it goes hand in hand with what I will learn in Master of Business Administration (Desai, 2013, Lombard, 2010, Qumza, 2011,Kwak, 2011). Previously, I have worked as an Office Assistant at Royal Island Resort & Spa (2008-01 - 2009-11), Assistant Manager, Procurement & Administration at Wallmark Private Limited (2009-11 -2010-08), Human Resources Officer at Clique College (2010-08 - 2013-08), Assistant Manager, Human Resources at Thilafushi Corporation Limited (2013-03 - 2018-03) and currently as an Assistant Manager, Human Resources at Greater Male’ Industrial Zone Limited starting from 2018-03. Greater Male’ Industrial Zone Limited, my duties were; development of training programs and career path, administration of payroll at the corporation and maintaining
PERSONAL STATEMENT3 database of recruiting and staffing logistics within the corporation among others. At Thilafushi Corporation Limited, some of my duties were; conducting personnel investigation, maintaining records and representing HR department, preparing periodic HR reports for management as requested, substituting the HR manager during his absence, etc. At Clique College, the duties were; organizing staff events, preparing payrolls, recommending, developing and scheduling staff training and development courses. At Wallmark Private Limited, I engaged in collaborating with management on employee and customer services issues, supervising daily activities related to procurement function and being actively involved in contract and procurement management daily. At Royal Island Resort & Spa, I carried out duties including compiling attendance of department staff, ensuring the accuracy of the department database, and coding and filing according to the established procedures. I came to learn that one needs to be confident in whatever they do and also be ethic so as to gain the respect of colleagues (Blau, Halbert, Atwater, Kershner, & Zuckerman, 2016). The skills gained from my previous job experiences include always coming up with the right judgment in conflicting situations and being able to control one’s emotions, be creative and proactive to issues that arise suddenly. Personally, I have such technical skills as being able to think critically since one is likely to encounter a situation that requires appropriate decision-making, and I have a commitment to development since the business world is subject to dynamism and I should be better placed to embrace the change so as to be up-to-date with what needs to be done. I also have good communication skills, I’m always confident no matter the kind of situation I find myself into, able to conduct myself ethically both at personal and professional levels and always embracing teamwork. My personal qualities include being flexible, being able to pay attention to details, good interpersonal skills and emotionally stable, and also possess skills in solving problems. In conclusion, I’m hoping life at the university is going to be in such a way that I experience minimum hurdles in my quest to acquire skills in Business Administration. Like Rashedur Ryan Rahman’s words, “Your VISION and your self-willingness are the MOST powerful elements to conquer your goal”,I feel am better placed to undertake this program because I have all it takes to achieve this. The enthusiasm and commitment I always have towards my undertakings will be of great help.
