Introduction Each and every institution need to have a data communication network which plays a great role when it comes to carrying out day to day activities. Over the last few years, we have witnessed growth in networks due to the fact that, people want to communicate and share information. This has been aided by the advancement in technology [1]. 1.Project Scope This network is designed in such a way that will serve all the following departments in ABC educational institute: Manager, Sales, Finance, Trainers and Front Desk. These departments will be in a position to share data seamlessly. So it is more of an intranet since it will serve the institution only[3]. 2.Project hardware and software requirements Hardware requirements are: Item DescriptionModelCompany Server (Processor: Intel core i3 and above, Hard drive 128gb, RAM 8gb) Client-server modelHp 12U Networking cabinetRSWM-12U001;LuckTek Maker and Exporter 4U Networking cabinetSolid DoorNewLuckTek Maker and Exporter 24 Port Ethernet SwitchNetgearCISCO 16 Port Ethernet SwitchNetgearCISCO 48 Port Ethernet SwitchNetgearCISCO Trunking Flexible ConduitGreenLee flex cutter splitter eBay Cable TierAsus CM -16 Cable modem Cable Tie Express Pattress box Face Plate

Software requirements are: i.Operating System –Windows from Microsoft ii.Tools and utilities: Firewall- Supermassive E9200 from Sophos Group Antivirus-Kaspersky iii.Communication clients: Browser i.e. Google chrome, Mozilla Firefox etc. 3.Approach for the design There are some of the things that need to be put into consideration to have an effective network;
a.Scalability-Before you commence your design, you need to consider the number of users who are going to use this network. As time goes by, the number of users tend to increase [4]. Your network design should be able to handle whichever the number of users without any degradation. b.Network security-Security is a factor which should also be considered. Networks are vulnerable to attacks. c.Interoperability-This entails ensuring that the devices within a network are able to communicate effectively. d.Storage requirements-It will reach a point in time, when you will have to move your network to the cloud. This increases network availability. e.Availability-the network should be up and running so that users can use at any given time. f.Cost-An efficient network should be cost-effective.
