Mental Health and its Implications on Aboriginal Culture: A Case Study of Justin_2
Question 1
Justin's mental wellbeing was greatly affected by the death of Reggie. Justin was so much influenced
by the ideology of Reggie who has a great follower of the aboriginal culture. Justin followed him
blindly and he was like a father figure for Justin. Justin became mentally depressed with the death of
Reggie and became hopeless for the survival of his culture (Busfield, 2011).
The next event that affected Justin happened in his school when his friends bullied him for his poor
performance in the examination. He was not able to score good marks in the examination due to his
type2 diabetes syndrome. However, his schoolmates were unaware of it and made fun of him.
The next event that affected his mental health was his type 2 diabetic syndrome. The diabetic
syndromes affected his study efficiency. He was depressed due to his diseases and left his part-time
job and stayed all day at home before leaving for the hospital (Chikaodiri, 2010).
Question 2
Justin loved his culture more than anything else. He used to feel proud of his culture and blindly
respected Reggie for his effort to develop the aboriginal culture. Unlike his friends, he never had any
bad habits but to lead a normal life playing with his friends and moving around. His love for his culture
and cultural movement of Reggie made him mentally due to excessive emotion for his culture.
However, the death of his uncle Reggie made him mentally ill (Chikaodiri, 2010). However, my
cultural interpretation is not as strong as Justin and there is no one whom I blindly follow as my cultural
Icon what Justin did with Reggie. My love for my culture depends on the cultural activities of my
cultural community, not for an abstract culture. Thus, there is a big difference in cultural interpretation
between Justin and me (Busfield, 2011).
Question 3
My attitudes and values towards mentally ill people are to make healthy communication. I
personally believe that it requires a healthy, soft and motivating conversation to talk to the
mentally ill people. Justin requires proper medication and healthy conversation with several
activities so that he can be influenced with that. To communicate with Justin, it is necessary to
show respect for his culture and make playful conversation with him (Espejo, 2012). He must be
provided with a mental support which can be delivered through talking with him properly and
indulge him to do various creative activities so that he can gather influence to face his mental
illness. I think good old stories regarding the aboriginal culture and its heroism must be told to
Justin in order to give him mental satisfaction and feel influenced to cop up against his disease.
