1a) Chung was suffering from low mood and
anxiety disorder, because of his inability to go to
his birthplace and meet his parents, the cultural
shock that occurred in Australia, due to the long
shifting hours at work and sleep deprivation can
exacerbate the symptoms. The post natal
complications in his wife have made her more
anxious. The suicidal ideation and hopelessness in
Chung had occurred due to the anxiety disorder
that Chung is facing within the past few months.
The clinical manifestations like shortness of breath,
suicidal feeling and sleep deprivation indicates
towards anxiety disorder (Germain, 2013).

behavioural therapy (CBT) is the most effective
form of psychotherapy that involves teaching of
specific coping skills to manage anxiety and
depression patients (Strauss et al., 2014). CBT also

Chung such as his misconception about the panic
attacks as heart attacks and that he would die very
soon, if he keeps on getting panic attacks like this.
Although the primary job of the nurse might be to
cater to Charlotte, Chung’s wife, but as a
community nurse, she can spend some time
conversing with Chung to understand his
grievances and needs and then based upon the
understanding of the nurse Chung can be referred
to a local psychotherapist.

2a) Chung had been through several ups and
downs since he had visited Australia. In this long
three years Chung had to struggle each and every
day for establishing his career as a doctor and also
had to face the medical board instructions
investigation. Furthermore he had been away from
his family for so long and feels guilty for not
providing ample time to his wife and his family.
Work related stresses, sleep deprivation and family
stresses can exacerbate depression and anxiety in
patients. Excessive work pressure, family stressors,
cultural shock can lead to mental health disorders
like thoughts for self-destruction (Germain, 2013).

2b) Relaxation technique is an effective way to
alleviate anxiety and depression in patients.
Relaxation techniques like deep breathing
exercises, meditation, yoga, long baths, massage
therapy and education for developing resilience
can be considered as effective interventions to
treat anxiety disorder (Klainin-Yobas, Cho &
Creedy, 2012).
Relaxation techniques like deep breathing
exercises can alleviate excessive stress faced by
Chung. Relaxation techniques have also been
found to induce sleep for people like Chung having
sleeping disorder. Relaxation techniques can be
taught by the nurse itself or can be referred to a
psychotherapist (Klainin-Yobas, Cho & Creedy,
2012).

3) Ethical issues that can be considered while
providing care to Chung is the establishment of a
nurse patient curative relationship. Since Chung
lacked a self-regulation hence empathetic words
should be used. Another issue maintaining the
dignity and privacy of this patient by discussing
about his problems in private areas (Lindwall et al.
2014).
As per the privacy act 1988, a health care
professional is liable to preserve the patient
information (Office of the Australian Information
Commissioner., 2015).
Considering the legal issues, as per the Mental
health act, there is an urgent need of treatment for
the patients like Chung, who are at risk to harm
themselves (RANZCP., 2015).
