MENTAL HEALTH PROBLEMS 2
Introduction
Mental health problems have become one of the most prevalent health illnesses affecting
the young generation in recent years. According to Global Burden of Disease study done four
years ago, it was revealed that more than 50 % of the deaths during the year 2015 were caused by
mental illness, young people having the highest rank. The top-ranked cause of mental illness
among the young people is drug addiction, early school dropouts and poor parental guidance.
Research reveals that half of the young adults in the US who fail to complete their education
ends up being drug and substance abusers in their early ages, which leads to various mental
illness such as anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, and substance abuse-related disorders.
Although there are other social issues that may contribute to mental illness among the young
people like parent Negrete, low self-esteem, academic problems and sexual abuse, the most
contributor of mental illness is drug and substance abuse (Gustafson et al., 2018). Considering
the high mortality rate and increased prevalence of mental disorders among in the young
generation, there is a need for quick intervention which will aim to mitigate the cause and effects
of mental illness among the youths. For any intervention program, it would be important to
consider, the related population affected or the people affected, the best solution or intervention
and compare various interventions in order to get the desired outcome (Nathan, 2015). Hence
this article tries to get various interventions that can be used to mitigate the cause and effects of
mental disorders using the PICO framework. The PICO strategy uses the keywords, search terms
and heading that are related to search terms.
