REFLECTION
Individuals reflection on the beliefs, values and behaviours of an individual can have a
strong impact on the nursing practice and can also affect the quality of service which are
offered to patients. In order to be a efficient nurse I need to be aware of my values,
beliefs values which should be different from my own. It is important for me to
understand what should I value and believe and how should I behave towards the
patients without any bias nature. So, it is vital for me to explore my and reflect on my
values, beliefs and behaviours which in need to adopt for the safe nursing practices.
Beliefs
Personal beliefs are always connect with the religion but it is important for me to
disassociate with my religious beliefs which will help me to pass the potential
judgement on the patients (Duhamel and et.al., 2015). One of the major belief which I

Individuals reflection on the beliefs, values and behaviours of an individual can have a
strong impact on the nursing practice and can also affect the quality of service which are
offered to patients. In order to be a efficient nurse I need to be aware of my values,
beliefs values which should be different from my own. It is important for me to
understand what should I value and believe and how should I behave towards the
patients without any bias nature. So, it is vital for me to explore my and reflect on my
values, beliefs and behaviours which in need to adopt for the safe nursing practices.
Beliefs
Personal beliefs are always connect with the religion but it is important for me to
disassociate with my religious beliefs which will help me to pass the potential
judgement on the patients (Duhamel and et.al., 2015). One of the major belief which I

need to adopt within the nursing practice is that I have be professional towards the
nursing practices . Maintaining professionalism is very important as it gives a person a
strength to performs the various tasks easily during the nursing practice (Daugherty and
et.al., 2015). Another belief which can help me in carrying out the nursing practice is I
have to believe in equality, I should treat every patient is equal and should not
discriminate on the basis of cast, colour, gender, culture, religion, etc. As during the
nursing practice we have to treat the patients which may be different backgrounds and
different types of people so, having a belief of treating equally can help me in becoming
a better nursing practitioner (Hockenberry and Wilson, 2018). It is personal for an
individual to decide about their diet which may be associated with the cultural identity
of an individual. Dietary of an individual can come form its culture, religions, age,
status etc. I have to keep in the note that nursing practice incorporates healthy diet for
the patient which is suitable for them and which is included in their treatment process
(Cruz and et.al., 2017). I believe that it is culturally safe to promote the practice of
dietary choices even by respecting patients dietary choices. Providing medication to
patients is the prime duty of nursing and has to make sure that they are following the
prescribed medications (Oermann and Gaberson, 2016). There may be cultural tradition
of the patients to rub ashes or putting holy water on the body, patients cultural or ritual
may help in recovering the patient but putting or incorporating spiritual beliefs with
prescribed medication can help in development of safe clinical care culture (Gabriella
and Sheree, 2014).
Values
Education is the most important value of nursing for me personally and also it is very
important for nursing practice in order to meet the standards of nursing practice
(Berman, Snyder and Frandsen, 2016). As knowledge is advancing in the nursing
practice so I have to educate my self related to new technologies, cultural differences of
the patients, new medical terminologies which I need to up date my self continuously
(Moorhead and et.al., 2018). I also need to educate my how could I drive culturally safe
environment during the nursing practices and I should be aware of patients trust and
culture. I also need to develop a sense of control in me which is essential for
maintaining the safe culture (Rodney and Varcoe, 2016). There may arise the situations

a critical thinking is also important for nursing practices which will help in bringing
balance in professional and personal life (Black, 2016). Developing a responsible nature
really important for the cultural safety of patients, I have to be responsible towards my
duties and try to follow the rules and regulations which can result safe work culture
(Manojlovich and Ketefian, 2016). What ever will be the situations will be I need to be
responsible for nursing actions.

Having a good communication is key factor achieving my nursing goals and also
building a therapeutic relationships (Murdaugh, Parsons and Pender, 2018). I need
maintain the effective communication with my colleagues, patients and with my
superiors which essential for building my nursing career (Hamaideh, Al-Omari and Al-
Modallal, 2017). I need to develop and improve my communication skills but its is a
challenging task to communicate with patients. As some patients will be different
cultural backgrounds and may communicate in different languages but I need to develop
a positive therapeutic relationships with them by developing my verbal and non-verbal
communication skills (Holland, 2017). Also my I need to develop an effective process
of treatment in order to treat the patients, process of treatment is must for developing
safe healthcare. I need to follows all the principles and guideline which will result in
safe nursing practice and safe health environment. I also need to practice empathetic
behaviour which is essential for cultural safe care (Jessie Collen and Ronald, 2013).
Empathy can be referred as expression of attitudes or feelings in response of events or
experiences (Eng and Pai, 2015). Being a nurse I need to develop a empathetic
relationships with patients while communicating with them as by behaving

CONCLUSION
It can be concluded for the report that in order to efficient nurse one should reflect on
its personal values, beliefs and behaviours in order to identify the values, beliefs and
behaviours which is suited for the best nursing practices. It can also be concluded that
there are various cultural challenges which can be faced by an individual in its nursing
career and which is important for mitigates these challenges in order to develop a safe
health care environment. Also, it can be concluded that nurse should try to incorporate
and modify its behaviours, values and beliefs without harming patient's culture beliefs,
values and behaviours.
