Early childhood care is one of the essential aspects in childhood development. During
rapid childhood development, hygiene, and safety are some of the elements that caregivers need
to specialize in to ensure that children are safe as well as have the capability to learn (Menzer &
Winsler, 2018). During the infancy stage, nappy changing tends to give caregivers a hard time as
most of them always want to complete the task as quickly as possible, especially after extended
daycare. According to Freshwater, (2014) the nappy changing session should be an opportunity
to interact with the infants and the kids and teach the kids more about hygiene.
According to the video, Jayne was able to observe some of the protocols designed for
hygienic nappy changing; however, that was not so exclusive. During the nappy changing,
health, hygiene, and safety are the key aspects. Children always play a lot with toys, crayons,
food, and other environmental objects that can infect and spread diseases; thus, both the
caregiver and the child need to work towards keeping the environment as hygienic as possible.
The nappy changing process should always be done at designated places, such as a changing
table. The surfaces should always have the capability to clean after every process to ensure a
high level of hygiene (I.M, et al., 2014). The table, therefore, should be close to sinks and bin,
while other supplies like wipes and cream should be within the arm’s reach to ensure that one
arm is on the child while the other arm gets hold on the supplies.
Oshikanlu, and Edwards, (2013) state that an excellent nappy changing table offers the
caregiver an opportunity to interact and engage with the child through conversation, singing, and
