Background:
The prevalence of smoking is a major concern across the United Kingdom. It should
be typically noted in this context that, according to the report published by the Statistics on
Smoking - England(2019), 17.2% of the adults smoke in the United Kingdom. Statistical
figures further reveal that a total of 19.3% men and 15.3% of the women smoked cigarettes
(Cancer Research UK 2019). Recent statistical reports suggest that men are more likely to be
smokers than women. In addition to this, research studies also indicated that smoking
prevalence was higher among the Mixed, white or other ethnic groups and was lesser among
the Black, Asian or Chinese immigrants (Whittaker et al. 2016). Also, the research studies
suggested that adults who were in between 25 to 34 years of age were more likely to be
smokers than senior adults. In addition to this, it was also found that 29% of the unemployed
adults were smokers against 15% of the employed adults (Hiscock et al. 2014). The adverse
effects on smoking on the physical health of the people lead to different types of cancer such
as lung cancer, larynx cancer, ovarian cancer as well as leukaemia. In addition to this, it
should be noted that deaths due to smoking and tobacco consumption is preventable. In the
year 2015, a total of 115,000 deaths had occurred due to smoking and tobacco consumption
which was almost equivalent to 19% of the deaths (Raupach et al. 2014). This suggests that
there is a need to implement health promotion programs so as to foster smoking cessation and
promote positive health outcome.
The primary focus of the upcoming assignment is to design and implement a health
promotion program to promote smoking cessation among the employees working across
different manual occupations. According to the statistical trends, it has been suggested that
the life expectancy gap for males is equivalent to 5.9 years and that for females is equivalent
to 7.6 years (Statistics on Smoking – England 2019). In addition to this, it should be noted
