NETWORK APPPLICATIONS
Introduction
This report aims to literature review about OpManager for exploring the methods
using which the application particularly functions and the various features. The major two
features of the OpManager that are the Real Time Network Monitoring and the Physical and
virtual server monitoring has been briefly discussed in this report. The socio technical
principles that the OpManager adheres to have been discussed in this report. Lastly this
report concludes with the appropriate conclusion for the report.
Discussion
Real Time Network Monitoring
Majority of the network administrators inconveniently run the commands using the
command line interface for the network devices or the remote desktop to the servers for
periodic checking of the present performance. The OpManager with the new introduced real
time monitoring functionality allows one for instantly report on the performance of the device
in the real time without the using of any other tool for remotely accessing the problem device.
While the degradation of the network performance happens, it is required to launch the real
time graphs and gain the updated information regarding the performance and health of the
device remotely [1]. With the implementation of the OpManager and the real time graphs
obtained from the OpManager, the network administrators gain the ability of real time
statistics on the device CPU and the memory utilisation, updated information on the
performance metric of any device and the real time bandwidth and traffic utilisation of any
interface or port. The monitoring of the performance of the network could be done using the
OpManager. The networks are backbone of each business. The network monitoring helps in
the anticipation of the potential outages and it addresses the problems of the network
efficiently [2]. OpManager pings each of the monitored devices at the defined intervals of

monitoring and if any of the device is down or if the time of the response or the loss of packet
is huge, the OpManager provides the notification to the administrator by rapidly sending the
text message or email.
Physical and virtual server monitoring
The OpManager Plus offers the multi-vendor support for monitoring the various types
of the servers and the critical application constantly, with the processes and the services [3].
The periodically monitor servers through the WMI and the SNMP protocols are used for
ensuring the proper working of the servers and the optimum execution by the servers at peak
performance. It provides the ability of storing all the data for the historical performance
tracking as well as troubleshooting, and therefore eliminating the requirement of several
monitoring tools for the servers [4]. The OpManager Plus provides the ability of monitoring
the metrics of the server performance like the CPU, disk utilisation and the memory down to
minute by using the real time graphs. It provides the chance of drilling down to the specific
time interval for understanding increasingly regarding any issue residing in the network and
then fix that particular problem prior it extensively damages the business [8]. OpManager
Plus travels beyond the common tools of the server monitoring with involving the support for
the SMTP, POP and the IMAP on the exchange servers [5]. It provides the feature of
monitoring over 15 crucial services and the 50 critical variables that includes the public store,
private store, received queue size and the sent queue size. The OpManager Plus could also
detect the attempted breaches in the network infrastructure of the organisation over the
application servers that includes the login failures because of the bad passwords, account
lockouts, and the failed attempts for accessing the secure files by the processing of the
Windows event logs and the monitoring syslogs. It provides the opportunity of discovering
all processes executing on the servers and also view the details like the Process Name,
process ID, Process Path, and the process argument [6]. The templates could be utilised for

Socio technical principles
Principle 1: Design is systemic
This principle is followed by the OpManager. This principle states that particularly
the system designers and others must make the required efforts for tracing the possible
impacts of the design choices among the vast range of the characteristics of the system
performance as is viable. This would positively need the additional support and the resources.
As the change would emerge, there must several capability that is built into this process for
reviewing the impacts. The designing of the OpManager has been done as per this
requirement and it adheres to this rule.
Principle 2: values and the mindsets are the central to the designing
Values and the underlying mindsets are crucial in the sociotechnical perspective. It
could be articulated in numerous methods but it includes numerous core ideas such as the
categorisation of humans as the assets and the technology as the tools for support the humans
in meeting the respective goals and that the various components might produce the
complementary abilities and the skills for meeting the requirements of the system. This
principle is adhered by the OpManager as the designing is done as per the requirements of the
customers.
Conclusion
Therefore, it can be concluded that the OpManager could be utilised extensively for
the monitoring of the network and it could be also utilised as the server monitoring tool. The
