1NEW AGE COMPUTER APPLICATIONS
Executive Summary
The technological developments in the world has its inception since the discovery of the
computers. The article discusses about the evolution of the human mind with the
revolutionary changes brought about by the functionality of the computer in our daily lives.
People have started using computers to ease out their daily life processes and has advanced to
that level where they cannot think their life without incorporating the usage of computers for
their daily purpose, be it sending mails or creating a presentation. People have modified their
mind-set about using such applications and are inventing different measures that will protect
their data with such uses. However, people have not only advanced in a positive way; there
are negative sides too. They have become more reliant on their virtual identity rather than
their authentic self. The youth of this generation are tending to perform more cybercrime
activities due to the flexibility of the computing world. Hence, people are now fighting for
the ‘Good over Evil’ in the revolutionary changes that are made in the world of computers
and its usage.

How Computers Change the Way, We Think
The invention of Computers has been a phenomenal event in the technological up
gradation of the world and the lifestyle of the people living in it. Volkman (2016) states that,
incorporating the use of computers in our day-to-day activities has made the processes in the
life of the people much easier to accomplish and has paced up the lives. With the invention of
computers, people have become more rich and powerful and could establish a dictatorship
over many events that they could not even think about two decades ago. The computers in the
current generation has led to the globalization and improvement in business in various
organizations worldwide. It has also led to the increase in the connectivity amongst people
and there is an increase in the awareness of the various socio-economic, political and other
issues throughout the world. Without computers, people could not have even thought about
creating digital marketing strategies, worldwide online businesses or make revolutionary
technological inventions to the existing systems of the world.
Hence, while thinking about the implementation of computing in the daily lives of
people, three basic question arises in one’s mind. The first one being ‘What is eligible for
computing?’ To understand this concept the computer scientists have thoroughly studied
about the mathematical requirements of any problem and tried to implement a pattern in the
computer systems that will help to solve the problem in no time. The most advantageous part
of this fact is that since the computers are machines all of them are equally eligible to solve
the same set of problems at an equal amount of time, except for the physical limitations like
the memory unavailability or the speed of Random Access Memory (Scheuerman, Paul &
Brubaker, 2019). Hence, computers were used to ease out our calculations like solving a
trigonometry problem or calculating a financial audit for an organization.

The second question that arises in mind is ‘What amount of time does a computer take
to solve a problem?’ Time management is a major factor that is resolved with the usage of
computers. For instance, the summation of a two-digit number will take fraction of a second
to solve it manually as well as by the computer. Again, it will take longer time for a person to
solve the summation of ten 5-digit numbers. This is where the magic of computing lies. A
computer will take the same amount of time to solve a long summation that it takes for a
short summation (DiSessa, 2018). Hence, if a problem is solvable by a computer, it will take
the same reasonable amount of time for the operation irrespective of the input size provided
to it.
The third question is about ‘Do computers have the capability to think?’ This question
had no proper explanation because until now it is the application of Artificial Intelligence and
Machine Learning that a computer is able to take decisions of its own (Cowan, 2018). Hence,
without human help computers fail to function in an orderly way and handle adverse
situations. The computers although incorporate methods that are implemented by us and help
to carry out functions like playing a chess game or generating an alert message on virus
attack (Howell, 2017). Although, they do not have the capability to think on its own, it has
the capability to do ten men’s work at a time and thus fastening the lives of the people.
With the implementation of computing, there are various aspects that the humans are
forced to think about the daily activities in their lifestyle. The first aspect of computing is
privacy in computing (Remus & Levy, 2017). Computing has facilitated people to use emails
for sending information over network services. People can store information in clouds and
access them from centralised servers. They can connect to their smart devices of their smart
houses without even staying at home. However, even while taking the advantages of
computing and Internet, people are concerned about the privacy of their data and information.

carrying out their tasks. However, the individuals of current generation are more secured
about the encrypted methods implemented in their network security. The computer engineers
have invented ideas to make their data secure such that they can enjoy the advantages of
computing and take protective measures against the disadvantages associated with data
transfer from the sender to the receiver.
According to Crook (2018), the invention of computers has benefitted the lives of the
people at large; however, it also had a negative impact on the psychology of the people,
specifically the students of the current generation. People can represent themselves in the
virtual world with the creation of the social media sites, any game-parlour or any other
technological venue on different contexts. Children in their adolescence period are taking
advantage of this virtual identity and are introducing themselves to the world of cyber-crime
by performing different crimes like hacking someone’s bank account or spreading fake
terrorism news. Thus, the online world is proving to be more dangerous than beneficial for
the children who are facilitated with the usage of computers even before them knowing the
right way to use it. Cook (2017) states that, people who tend to spend more time on their
virtually social world, tend to suffer from loneliness, depression and other psychological
disorders. This has led to the question of whether the humans of today’s generation are aware
of their authentic self or they are simply becoming the puppets of the computing world.
The invention of the different applications in the computing world has led to a change
in the culture of the education system too. Prior to the implementation of the Information
Technology in the education world, students as well as the teachers incorporated traditional
and procedural way of presenting their ideas in the subjective format, like an essay or a
report. However, the organization of Microsoft has invented an application called the
PowerPoint Presentation that could be used by the students to frame their ideas in short and
precise bullet points and represent them in their learning outcomes (Batty, 2017). This culture

of presentation has not only been implemented by the teachers in schools or universities, but
also became quite famous in the corporate culture while representing graphics and
presentation during the meetings. The PowerPoint presentation of the content leads to clarity
in the expression of the ideas of people in an aesthetic way with powerful images and other
animated features.
The transparency in the processes has increased because people have changed their
way of lookout and prefers taking things at the value of an interface. Previously, the people
were not concerned about the internal functionality of the software and preferred getting their
work done accurately. However, with the increase in the understanding of the systems, people
now prefer epistemic opacity that is, they should be aware of the process on how to make the
software work to obtain the desired output (Vereenooghe, Gega & Langdon, 2017). Hence,
even though the systems are complex, people prefer taking things at their face value and
encourage different habits of the thought process through contemporary information
technology.
Thus, the computer environments nowadays incorporates associated risks and benefits
along with it concerning the human psychology. People have advanced their way of thinking
with the enhancement of the information technology but are also suffering from various
psychological disorders. They have become more hybridized and global in their thought
process. They incorporates a ‘Good over Evil’ attitude while dealing the real-life situations.
