1NEW ENTERPRISE VENTURE DEVELOPMENT This essay is the reflection of a group project in which I was working as a part of a group. This essay mainly focuses on my personal experiences that I gained during the group work project in the Preston Box market. In our group work, our team comprised of six members that comprises Vijay,Karthik,Anil,Naveen,Subbu and me. The main aim of this group work is to meet the need of the client that defines the term project, designing the process of implementing the project, also deliver the project to the client within the time period. In this essay, we are working in the group project based on Preston box market. During the project, I gained a lot experiences from the process of team building to the end of the process. In this essay, the experience of this whole process is described by using the Kolbe’s reflective cycle. The most important thing of the group project is the building of the team as this group is responsible for the whole projects and responsible for all the good and bad incidents. The group development is divided into a few stages. The stages are Forming Norming, Performing and adjourning (Harding 2017). The forming process was initiated on the very first day of our group project. The forming stage is the stage where, we started to know each other and we took oath to get success in our work. In the storming stage of team development, a situation of conflict occurred where Karthik and I argued with each other. However, it did not last long and we sorted out the problem. In the next stage of team building that is the norming stage, all the members of team should know about the strengths and positive points of each other(Harding 2017). This stage of development we all knew each other in a better way and that helped us in performing in a better manner. During this stage, our group had gained anadequate amount of synergy and also had attained a level of effectiveness that may be same throughout the whole project. However, Subbu had not worked properly as he was absent most of the time. Apart from Subbu, our whole team was completely well tuned. The last stage of the group development is adjourning.
2NEW ENTERPRISE VENTURE DEVELOPMENT However, as we are working for a short period of time, we had not entered in this stage of group formation.During the group development we had selected Anil as our leader as he has the capabilities of handling the whole team and we found that, during the argument between me and Karthik, he managed the whole thing in a wonderful way. After the development of our work, we divided the tasks to the all member of our groups so that we can finish the work within the time. Our team leader Anil divided the whole work works according to the previous experiences of our group members. This is very important to to divide tasks as per expertise (Kerzner and Kerzner 2017). All of our team members had previous experience of working in a group project. It also helped Anil while dividing the works. However, again there was conflict in our team. This time Subbu and Naveen started to argue as Subbu was given the responsibility of maintaining the communication within our group and he would give all the update to our leader. Naveen complained about the absence of Subbu and wanted to do the work. This initiated the conflict within the group. Although, the claim of Naveen was not wrong. Again, Anil solved the problem as a good leader. The role of Naveen and Subbu was swapped. Now Subbu would work as field surveyor of the project. Although, Subbu was upset, he accepted the decision of our team leader. During the group project, whenever there was any such kind of problem, the decision of our team leader was to be the final decision. I was given the role of communicator. It is very much important in case of any group project ( Pigg 2014). Communication is very much important for getting success in any projects. However, if the communication is not proper among the team members, then it would hamper the effectiveness of the project (Cheung, Yiu and Lam 2013). However, a multi-cultural communication technique is very much important in managing the groups(Martin and Nakayama 2013). Therefore,we did not face such kind of condition as all the members of our group were from same cultural background. In our team, we communicated well
3NEW ENTERPRISE VENTURE DEVELOPMENT during the project work. Therefore Subbu faced some issues as he was absent sometimes. In the growing technology, we used email and Whatsapp messenger as a part of communication ( Pigg 2014) and we used to use this. This helped us managing the work in a smooth way and Anil also distributed our work through that messenger application sometimes. In most of the times, we used to have a meeting with our leader. During working in this project, I had learnt that the most important part of working as a group is to build the team in a perfect manner. In addition to this, another important thing is to divide the work according the strengths of the group members. A good relationship within the team is also important in order to avoid the internal collision among the team members. Another important learning from this project work is that, without a successful communication it is very difficult get success in any projects. However, there was also a few incidents that can be prevented. The collision between me and Karthik can be avoided as it washappening almost without any reason. Not only that, the absence issue of Subbu be managed if Anil would warn Subbu in the initial days of our project. However, Anil should not hand over a big responsibility initially to Subbu and this would prevent the argument of Subbu Naveen regarding their job responsibility. Lastly it can be said that we had a good experience during the project work that would help us in our future work.
