This case study explores how Nike established a web presence and selected a web hosting company for their e-business. It discusses the importance of web hosting, the features of a good web hosting company, and the specific requirements of Nike. The study also covers the concept of self-hosting and internal development, as well as the domain name chosen by Nike.

Introduction
In each company, there is always a need for the firm to host its websites on the web so
that can be accessed by everybody over the web. Ideally, the major idea is to make it visible and
clear to all who may wish to know more about the firm. In addition, considering that our case
study company deals with products ranging from clothes to shoes and they need to market their
products, there will be a need for Nike to associate themselves with a good web hosting company
who will help them in storing their web files. Web hosting in computer jargon is a service that
usually allows a firm or a company individual to be able to post their own site or a web page
over the internet (Smith, 2019). The web host or the provider is considered as the business owner
who usually provides the companies with the technologies and services meant for hosting and
thus allowing the company website to be viewed over the internet. In this concept, the company
of Nike needs a proposal of a good web hosting company and how such can help them to build
their files or information in all concepts all ideas.
Web Hosting
Ideally, in this concept, Nike is an international company and thus the selection of the
web hosting company will be very fundamental as it will affect the entire information stored on it
Information is usually termed as confident and private though in this case, the frontend is open
for the public. In understanding the best web host company, there is a need for one to know what
you are paying for, understand all the tricks of prices, how trustworthy the provider is,
understanding the limits among others. Ideally, due to its very large database which may require
terabytes of data they need to use Wix web hosting. This company is well known for being good
in storage and website building and thus helping the company like Nike to be able to establish
itself in all aspects. This usually creates a good environment between them and the client (Com,

other company in that, the websites of the company after they have been built they will be stored
on servers. At the servers, the users can be able to view all the information in that specific
website of Nike and all in is needed is just typing the website address or the domain of the
specific website in one’s browser. The PC is supposed to connect to the server which in turn will
respond by giving response through the browser. Some of the services given by Wix web hosting
are such as the Email Accounts, Web Building tools, website, FTP files upload, and databases
meant for storage.

This web hosting company usually allows the company or an individual to create and
being able to store all the data on their website. They give the company a unique address on the
web where the users and viewers, as well as the visitors, can be able to view the firm website.
Ideally, at the initial stage they offer one 500MB for a starter which is usually free but if you
need more storage like in our case study of Nike like Gigabytes then will need to update to
premium where one can do more as explained in the features above in figure 1. Any company

objective is to make their website accessible and at the same time secure in the manner that they
can be able to make an informed decision without worrying on the privacy and confidentiality of
the data (Athow, 2019). Wix is a company that has very good building tools that the company
like Nike can use in making the arts and look and feel of their company website to be much
appealing to their eyes and to the society in general.
Wix Company usually provides the storage space that will be used for storing the
company website contents as well showing all the statistics with regards to the company websites
has been accessed from all over the world (Com, Wix Site Hosting, 2018). Notably, since this
company is an international company, thus this information of the company like Nike can be
remotely accessed as even they don’t entirely know the location of the Wix servers and they only
coordinate on the information given.
A good web hosting company is identified by the few major features such as the
following;
 Can the website be accessed remotely and by anybody everywhere the world?
 Can they have enough storage for the company website content?
 In case there is a failure in the system, does the company maintain backup logs to
help in recovering data?
 Do the company has website builder tools embedded on their website to help the
client like Nike make amendments or update their hosted website
 Does the company host facilities have statistic and analytic features that show
how the Nike website is accessed on a daily basis to help the company know how
many people contact them via the website?

In this case, Wix web hosting company has all the mentioned criteria and thus it was an
ideal idea to select it as the web hosting company of Nike website of E-business.
Web Host Requirements
Ideally, the requirements of the company will depend on the products offered by Nike. In
this case, the offer clothes and shoes and thus there will need a self-hosting company that will
keep them up to date. Ideally, by self-hosting, the company will be able to improve on the store
building features and thus able to liaise with internets service providers (Raja, 2018). The cost of
hosting the website on their company will be high due to the required equipment’s and labor
though in terms of security and maintenance they will have an advantage when compared to the
dedicated web-hosting. In this self-hosting, it is very much easy for the company to install their
storage which may be up to what they need and thus the only cost that they will incur is the only
cost of maintaining the system website and the IT experts who keep the website up to date.
Internal Development
As seen above, as the company deals with a large number of products and has got so
many branches all over the world, there will be a need to use the Self-hosting and this will need
to be done or developed internally. Developing internally will help them to develop the websites
in modules and updates the specific module when it has finished (Lorenc, and Woda, 2017). In
this case, it will be easy for them to update or make any changes from headquarter will update
the other parts of the websites automatically. When the websites are developed internally and in
modules, then it won’t affect the course of work when the staff is working or users are accessing
the website.

Domain
In this case, Nike is a very popular and common company known for the quality and
price of its products. It has been able to sell its brand globally without even match marketing
though it has sponsored many football clubs such as Arsenal FC for some time. Since this name,
Nike is very common and liked due to the quality of clothes they offer the best domain will be
www.nike.com.
Just by the click and the presence of the name Nike, a person will be tempted to open the
link and what is being offered. The name of the domain .com since is well known to be applied
globally, it will not limit the users on different areas and thus making it accessibility everywhere
unlike in other websites which are limited to one country.
