Procurement and Supply Chain Management: A Case Study of Nike

This presentation discusses the procurement and supply chain management strategies of Nike through a case study. It covers the supply issues, operational issues, and integration issues faced by the company. better ideas that Nike might undertake in order to improve
their supply chain activities.
*Scope: The scope shall be limited to the purchase and
delivery of the product.
*Limitation: The limited time to carry out the research is
one primary limitation.

is responsible for manufacturing,
designing and marketing footwear,
accessories and apparel all over the
world.
*Nike responsibly carries out its supply
chain activities and makes sure of its
worldwide supply.
*The company also has long term and
strategic partnership with its suppliers
and dealers.

*Considering the importance of
sustainability, the company has focused
on sustainability in terms of its delivery

*The strategies adopted by the
organisation has enable them to drive the
business activities fostering a strong
culture of safety
*However, with the increase in the market
competition, the company has to
compromise at some point leading to
corporate or social issues.

*Operational
issues
*Nike has been in the headlines as a
result of engaging child labour in the
operational activities
*This also resulted in human
trafficking and their responsibility
towards the society (Nike.com 2018).
*As per the UK’s Transparency in
Supply Chain Act of 2010, Nike’s
business practices have been
questioned.

*Integration
issues
*Considering the Lee’s Triple A model,
the integration activities of Nike can
be stated as:
*Agility: It takes around 72-96 hours for
the company to deliver their products
*Adaptability: Nike has always been in
the primary list when it comes to follow
the recent trend
*Alignment: The company has also
aligned with third party logistics 3PL, in
order to ensure timely delivery of their

2017)

*Supply Chain Analysis
*The company follows a partnership with the
suppliers at the particular place or region.
Thus, a mid-way hierarchical and group is
followed if we consider the Dynamic
Alignment Model of Gattorna (Gattorna
2015)
*The products are manufactured and then
they are transported to each suppliers from
where the products are further delivered.
*The buyer behaviour is taken into
consideration when it comes to the
designing the products.

*Three challenges to
complete assessment

*Availability of enough resources: As Nike is a
world wide known company, any kind of
information that pertains to the issues of the
organisation, might be difficult to obtain.
*Effective communication with peers and
lecturers might also create another obstacle
ion achieving the desired result.
*Fast reaching deadlines can become
challenging for me to complete the project in
time.

available online and carrying out
research to find out the most
