NOTES ON INDEPENDENT STUDY STRUCTURE
STYLE NOTES
Paper: Print on one side of paper. Ensure your margins enable binding without losing any
words. Generally, a 3cm border will suffice.
Font: Size 12, with a standard font (Arial, Calibri, Times New Roman, etc.)
.Spacing: Double line spacing for your main writing. Single line spacing for direct quotes
over 20 words.
Referencing: Ensure you adhere to referencing guidelines.
Page numbering:Use standard numbering (1,2,3 etc.) in the bottom right-hand corner of
each page. There is no need to include a header or footer with additional information.
Accuracy: It is your responsibility to ensure spellings, etc. are accurate not your
supervisors! Ensure your spell check is not set to American.
Diagrams/Tables etc.: All diagrams/tables, etc. require a numbering and a heading.
FRONT MATTER
Each of the following aspects in bold type are to be placed on a separate page within
your Independent Study.
Title Page: Please refer to the example below.
Abstract: In less than 300 words, provide an overview of your Independent Study – the
aims, key aspects, conclusions, etc.
Declaration: On a separate page, put the title ‘Declaration’ and include these words:
‘I declare that the work in this Independent Study is my own, except where otherwise stated.
It has not been previously admitted to any other university or institution of higher education,
in total or in part, for the award of a degree.’
Acknowledgements: People who have supported your work. It is tempting to thank
everyone including the pet budgie, but it will mean more to thank those pertinent people in
your work. This may include line-managers for access to the organisation, etc.
Contents Page: List the pages and various sections of your Independent Study.
List of Diagrams: As for the contents, list the page, number and heading of any diagrams.
List of Tables: As for diagrams.
List of Abbreviations: List the abbreviation then the full title (e.g. Ofsted Office for
Standards in Education).

Abstract:
The research project gives an overview of the BfL theory.
The aims of my study were:
1. To explore the role of early childhood theories.
2. To evaluate how BfL theory is implemented in the early childhood setting.
3. To explain how the early educators help nursery children in the promotion of positive
behaviour.
4. To show what specific strategies were used in order to implement them in the setting.
5. To show an overall understanding of how the learning theories and BfL framework works
in practice.
The BfL framework emphasizes the relationship with three aspects namely ;
1.Relationship with self : (engagement)
Self-esteem, self-confidence and motivation
2. Relationship with others: (participation)
social interactions, engagement, collaboration, cooperation, group support and
belongingness
3. Relationship with curriculum :(access)
Access to the learning resources available within the curriculum.

During the study I was conducting the interview with the nursery practitioners and
observing emotions, behaviour and engagement with learning child M. Based on the
analisys of all responses and application of early childhood theories in practice I drew my
conclusions .

I would like to firstly thank my tutor and the teaching staff in my university, for not only providing
me with the opportunity to learn in this esteemed institute but also in guiding me in conducting this
research, without whom, it would have not been possible for me to complete the same. I would
also like to thank the nursery managers, staff and parents of the children in allowing me to conduct
my research in their nursery and for their cooperation and support. Lastly, I would like to thank my
family for always encouraging, supporting and motivating me excelling academic and
professionally.
