INTRODUCTION
Health is predominately the state of being out of the constraints of any type of illness and
injury and explains the mental as well as physical well-being where diseases are absent. The
health and well-being patterns are different in families across the world. The main aim of this
report is to study the health profile of family along with their health needs and how nurses forms
a core part in enhancing health of people. In this report, family living in underprivileged area like
Blackpool and having the low social status are taken who are deprived of major facilities. The
major rationale behind taking this groups is that they are the one who are more prone to ill-health
and risk factors.
This report gives a brief about health as well as illness and health promotion, health
profile of family, role of nurse as well as opportunities in promoting health.

Health and well-being
Health is basically the state of the complete emotional as well as physical well-being. On
the other hand, well-being is predominately the positive outcome and result which is meaningful
for the people as well as for various sectors of the society. Health as well as being are mainly the
two concepts which are highly prominent in the area of occupational health and safety (Audet
and et.al.,2017).
Principles of the health promotion
Health promotion is primarily the combination of the health, educational, political as well
as economical initiative which is designed for bringing positive attitudinal as well as behavioural
changes in society. There are mainly three principles. The first principle is empowerment which
involves the way of working for enabling people for gaining greater control on the decisions.
Second principle is participative in which people participate for making decisions. Third
principle is Holistic in which there are separate and different influences upon health as well as
interaction of various dimensions (Banks and Thompson, 2018).
Importance of health promotion activity
The main aim of the health promoting activity is to make people aware of various
harmful effects of different disorders and thus educating them on various strategies for
improving their health. The activities of health promotion helps to promote the good health and

thus aims to empower the people as well as communities for achieving the health behaviour as
well as reduce risk of emergence of various chronic diseases (Raphael, Bryant and Rioux, 2019).
Health profile of family
Family
Family is basic unit and component of the study in various medical as well as social
sciences and thus its definition varies from country to country and state to state. The family will
be composed of people first between the age of 30 to 50 where men works while females look
for the children and house activities. Along with this, there are children who study and are
between the age group of 12 to 18 (Baum, 2016). Talking of the social class, although both the
parent work but their social status are not high and thus lives in an underprivileged area. Due to
bad social class, they do not have enough money to buy their own house thus they live in a
rented house. Coming on the health status of this defined family, as they live in an
underprivileged are thus they face a lot of challenges in their health and are prone to large
number of disorders and diseases. Firstly, thee families lives in the rented house thus they have a
lot of expenses to bear due to which their spending on medicines decreases and this lead to
worsening of the situation. Underprivileged are is basically where there is little or no aspects of
hygiene and people living there somewhat lack basic necessities. This is considered as one of the
highly populated are which remains vulnerable to different health issues and ill-health. Due to
lack of hygienic factors, this family generally does not have filtered water to drink and mainly
depends on the water coming from unhygienic sources. These families are more prone to
disorders like Malaria, food poisoning etc. Besides this, due to the low social status, the financial
position of these families remain weak and thus they are more vulnerable to the ill health and
various disorders. Along with this, due to high amount of expenses their children lacks the
thorough education and due to this it becomes difficult for them to understand the aspects of
various ill health. As per the report of National health center, these families remain deprived of
the major facilities and this becomes their major weakness. They do not get the access of high
class medication as well as cure and treatment due to which they later on develop a large number
of disorders as well as diseases. For example- as they live in underprivileged areas, they tend to
make their food from dirty water which later on causes the various serious health impact on them
and thus affects their overall health. Besides this, due to lack of proper facilities like lack of

efficient hospitals and healthcare centers, these families are not able get the proper treatment as
well as cure which later on affects their overall development.
United Kingdom is considered as the most populated are which is suffering from various
health issues. In UK, these families are one of the deprived entities where mostly people lacks
the proper facilities and basic necessities. UK consists of large number of families in where the
people are mostly deprived of basic facilities. These families does not get the proper nutritious
food and other needed facilities. This eventually leads to various health issues among them. Due
to the unhygienic conditions, these people mainly encounters AIDS, Malaria, TB etc. Thus, these
families in UK are highly vulnerable to different disorders and diseases (Glasby, 2017).
Health needs
Family
Talking of the family where parents along with their children lives in the same house and
have their rented house in underprivileged area mainly incurs a large amount of expenses. Due to
living in the rented house, this family have a burden of large number of expenses as man is the
sole earning member. As per the National health report, this type of family remain vulnerable to
high amount of health risks and this risk has increased from around 32.1% to more than 54.7%.
The major health needs of the family is to get the access of high quality facilities. The major
health needs of the family is to educate them about the various ill health and disorders.
According to the report of 2018, it has been found that around 1 million families are uneducated
and are unaware of healthy behaviour (Chin and Noor, 2017). For example- these mainly suffers
from Malaria thus there is need to educate them on the prevention of this disease through
seminars, campaigns etc. Besides this, as these families lives in the underprivileged area thus as
per the data of governmental organizations in 2018, there is primary need of setting the proper
medical facilities in these areas for the family (Benyamini and Leventhal, 2019).
According to the report of 2017, it has been found that more than 40000 females
commonly encounters with the hormonal changes and bones problems every year. Here the
major health need of these females is to aware them of various physical activities and thus
engage them in daily physical activity. According to the report of NHS, the main reason behind
the occurrence of ill-health in these females is their avoidance of physical activity and restraining
themselves from different kinds of mental work. Nearly 9000 females belonging to low class
does not perform any physical activity as they do not have the basic facilitiesd as well as did not

get the time to perform these activities (Chin and Noor, 2017). Thus, the major and important
health need is to organize various campaigns and physical activity classes for them for free or
minimal charges and encourage them to join these in order to avoid the cause of various bone
related problems.
They are highly poverty-stricken and lack the access of various basic facilities like
proper medication, education etc. These people in this area remain distress of education and due
to unhygienic conditions and effect of bad weather, people normally encounters health related
diseases like AIDS, TB etc. As per the survey of 2017, more than 20000 cases of death in UK
due to ill-health is reported every day (Rowlands and et.al.,2017). According to the report of
many researchers, the major health need of this community is to educate them in various serious
health issues and thus inculcate a healthy behaviour within them. They need to be encouraged as
week as educated on various aspects of health through conducting campaigns in this community
as well as providing the basic educational facilities. Besides this, another health need is to
provide employment opportunities to large number of people and become a good source of their
earnings (Fain, 2017).
Behavioural risk Factors
Tobacco use
This is one of the major behavioral risk factor which has impacted the wide rage of
population. Talking of the family which lives in the underprivileged area, men who are the sole
earner of family due to lack of proper nutritious food develops the habit of chewing tobacco in
order to fill their stomach. Besides this, as the men in this type of family are uneducated thus
they remain unaware of the harmful effects of tobacco. This becomes one of the threat for their
health. As the men in these families mainly works in factories or construction sites and are
involved in harmful activities thus they normally have the perception that tobacco will provide
them enough power as energy for doing work (Hirsch and Morlière, 2017). Along with this, they
remain under stress due to major financial issues and this give rise to holding of tobacco in their
hand. This not only impacts their lungs badly but also reduces their overall life span.
Smoking
Talking of the community where people live in the underprivileged area becomes the
prey of smoking and drinking. This has become the widely known behavioral factor that affects
the health in a negative way. As these families in UK does not get the basic necessities and

remain devoid of the necessary facilities thus they develop the habit of smoking and this not only
impacts their own health but even their family are compelled to suffer. Most of the people in
these families in UK are unemployed and this give rise to frustration and anger with them. Thus,
in order relieve themselves they develop this habit. As they normally have low income as well as
low educational attainment thus this compels them to take the support of smoking. This smoking
affects the lungs vary badly and even sometimes proves to be fatal (Fallon, 2017).
Influence of Inequalities on health
The materials factor like food, shelter as well as physical risks influences the health
outcomes to great extent. The unequal distribution of the resources and physical risks across the
geographies contributes towards the social inequalities within health. The inequalities have
formed the large part of health issues and family, community as well as group described above
somewhere suffers from this inequality. In group, there is unequal dispersal of food in females
and in community and family there is unequal dispersal in facilities. When there is inequality in
any aspect then this results in worsening of the health and thus leads to unfavourable outcomes
like diseases, disorders etc (Mouratidi, Bonoti and Leondari, 2016).
Interventions
There are various interventions which eventually will help to improve as well as protect
the health of wider group.
Proper education
This is one of the most important health promotion intervention which forms the integral
part in improving the health of large number of people. Within this intervention, there should be
educational programme as well as campaigns to educate people ion various harmful effects of
disorders and diseases. Different educational programs should be introduced across wide
geographies and for each and every culture in order to make them aware of importance of health
and encourage them to change their heath behaviour. The government should take the initiative
to make this mandatory for each and every profit and non-profit organization to raise awareness
among people for their health and to encourage them for making necessary changes within their
lifestyle and habits (Waverijn and et.al.,2016).
Healthcare facilities
According to the report of National health service, most of the people living in
underprivileged area becomes the prey of smoking and tobacco and more than 60000 cases are

reported of death by smoking every day. Besides this, they also suffer from various fatal diseases
and the main rationale behind their bad health is lack of proper facilities. Thus in order to
overcome the effects of bad health, the most common intervention which the government should
take for the families living in Blackpool is providing better facilities and services to them. The
most effective strategy is creating better healthcare facilities in Blackpool, building educational
institutes and elementary school and in order to educate the children. Besides this, government
should take the initiative to provide local health services to these families living in Blackpool
(Hays, 2018).
Raising awareness
The most important reason behind bad health of families living in underprivileged area
that is Blackpool is their lack of awareness about various aspects related to health. Thus, the
highly efficient intervention which government should take is raising awareness among these
families through various campaigns, seminars etc. Making the families aware of the different
consequences of bad health will help them to understand its impact on them and their families.
Besides this, government should encourage various healthcare institutions to conduct the
campaign every month and thus analyze their health status as well as explaining them various
preventive measure which they can take (Dahlberg, 2019). Children in schools from rich areas
should be encouraged to take part in these campaign in order to indulge with children of these
families.
Role of nurse as well as opportunities in promoting health
Role of nurse
Nurse is basically the person who is trained for giving care to the sick people in the
hospital. Nurse plays the essential role in hospital and thus contributes to the greater extent for
promoting health. The major role of a nurse is to provide information to the patients. Through
practice of the health promotion, nurse basically provides the required information to the patient
which they need for managing as well as improving their overall health. For example- the nurse
educate the new parents about the upcoming vaccines for their child. Thus, in this way, nurse
helps to promote health and thus create the environment of well-being. Beside this, nurses
provides the necessary care as well as medication to the patients for improving the health. Being
expert in their field, nurses are well-trained about the effects of various medicines, practices etc

and thus they effectively apply these practices for improvement of patient (Audet and
et.al.,2017).
Nurse Profile in recognizing opportunities for reducing ill health
Nurses are generally considered as the supporting hand of doctors and thus forms the
most important profile who are well-trained for performing their work. Nurses can explore
various opportunities for promoting the health as well as for reducing ill-health. Firstly, nurses
can formally act as managers and thus assume this role for helping patients and their families to
navigate through healthcare system. Nurse can work with the patients as well as their families for
ensuring the well through holistic care to prevent ill health. Besides this, nurses can serve as
health promoter where they can plan and the various programs about the assessment needs and
health needs of the people and thus can help to disseminate the information on various effects of
the different disorders and diseases (Banks and Thompson, 2018).
Use of information for promoting health promotion activities
The various information which the nurses disseminate to the patients for improving their
ill health can be used for planning the numerous activities on health promotion at large platform.
Nurse mainly provide information as how the patients can ensure their better health and what
preventive measures they can take for safeguarding their health. This information can be used in
various seminars. For example- in order to make people aware of Tuberculosis, Nurses can help
to disseminate the preventive measures which should be taken for avoiding the outbreak of TB.
Besides this, as they are highly trained and expert in their filed thus they can also recommend
various vaccinations and medications which will be helpful for different age group (Baum,
2016).
CONCLUSION
It has been summarized that health and well-being plays an important role in the life of
people and thus is highly essential to maintain the good health and proper healthy behaviour. The
health status differ from person to person and have different pattern in community, a group and a
family. The family which lives in underprivileged area having parents and children then their
health status mainly shows that they do not have the access to basic necessities and due to men
are sole earner, they have poor financial situation. Their health needs addresses the need to
educate them. Where on the other hand, females living luxurious lives also becomes prey of
serious health issues like obesity due to less physical activity thus there health needs addresses

need for performing physical activity. Nurses are the prime entity in promoting good health. Due
to efficient practice in their filed, role of nurses is imperative, and they are mainly involved in
providing information to patient as how they can improve their health. Nurses are the treasure of
information about various ill health which can be used for planning the health promotion
activities.
