1. The majority of older Australian’s continue to live in their own homes, with
or without support. Discuss 2 advantages and 2 challenges of older people
remaining in their own home. (200 words)
Response: Majority of older Australian continue to reside in their own home,
either with support or without support. The two benefits of older population
residing at their own home are as follows (Milligan, Bingley and Gatrell, 2016):
They do not feel homesick and are comfortable and secured in their
own home, as they freely live without any hesitation, in their own terms
and condition and they can completely concentrate on their health and
well-being.
The older people residing at their home are more financially secured
and stable as they do not have to spend huge amount of money for
living in nursing home or in any aged care facility.
The two challenges faced by older people residing in their own home are as
follows (Gregory
et al. 2017):
Social isolation is one of the major challenges that is faced by the older
people who lives in their own home as due to growing age they lack of
mobilize effectively and hence tend to stay at one place.
Some older adults face the issue of elder abuse by their close family
members and relatives that include emotional, physical and
psychological abuse, negligence and financial exploitation.

2. The My Aged Care website https://www.myagedcare.gov.au/ is a
central repository for information about aged care services in Australia.
Discuss how an older person can get assessed through My Aged Care to
get the services they need. (200 words)
Response: My Aged care is one of the most accessible and beneficial
Australian Government- subsidized aged care service, which aim to
enhance the life of an older person and their family members by
providing adequate support and care. My Aged care provides various
types of care and facility that aim to improve the living and the health
condition of an individual. In order to get assessed by the Aged care
service, the individual will first learn about the different types of care
that is provided by the facility and determine which type of care they
require of their own well-being (Khadka
et al. 2019). To determine which
type of care they require, an in-person assessment is conducted that
will help them to gain a basic idea of the facilities provided by them and
how can this help them to improve their health and lead a healthy life.
After an in-person assessment, a face-to face assessment is conducted,
where a health expert will visit their home and explain the reading the
eligibility of government-subsidized services. Based on the care facility
required by the older individual, My Aged Care will provide adequate
support and referrals to the individual in order to meet their demands

and needs (Commonwealth of Australia, 2019).

3. Identify one organisation applicable to the older person and discuss how it
informs the support and protection of older people in Australia. (200 words)
Response: One organization in Australia that is applicable for the older
Australian population is Council on the Ageing (COTA). This is one of the
leading and emerging non-profit organization that aim to promote the
opportunities and protect the rights of the older Australian population.
This organization focus on the action plan at the national level regarding
the issues that is affecting the older population of Australia (Kendig,
Gong and Cannon, 2018). COTA organization with the assistance from
the government, philanthropic trust, public and the business
organization aim to improve the issues that is affecting the older
population in Australia. They develop the principle sand the policies for
the older population and help the older people to achieve a better life
with less issues. This organization provide relevant knowledge to the
older population which will help them to take informed decisions
regarding their health and decide on their own conditions. They will also
aim to engage and promote different research that will enable the heath
advancement among the older population in Australia. Lastly, they will
