Introduction
Health dimensions refers to set of factors which are responsible for influencing wellbeing of an
individual. It includes several main aspects of personal health like physical, emotional, social,
spiritual and intellectual condition. However, it involves the criterion of focussing in important
physical and mental dimensions of health for making a person completely well (Akyüz and et.
al., 2018). In context of this project, it is based on the case study of two studying nurse named as
Janice and Samprit having their own interest to work in specific field of nursing. This assignment
will focus on importance to gain knowledge about patient with physical and mental co-morbidity
along with use of recovery model in mental health care facilities. It will also include the
significance of mental state examination to priorities service delivery for making patient
wellbeing. The way of involving and support person suffering from mental health needs to meet
their actual requirements are given below.

Describe the importance of gaining knowledge about mental health and mental health illnesses
for nursing students in respect of light of high levels of patients having the disease related
to both psychological and physical health problems along with the way they impact the
other.
Considering the desires of learning and working of selected two nursing students, it has been
analysed that they are not interest to work with patients suffering from mental illness. It is
necessary for them to understand the nursing is a challenging field where nursing staff is
required to perform in different care units to deal with various kinds of patients. However, they
are required to understand that they must gain knowledge about mental health and relevant
illnesses to deal with respective people so that their performance becomes perfect. It will provide
support to them for working in different healthcare settings which impact positively on their
career growth as well as success (Lu, Yue and Liu, 2018). Meanwhile, it is observed that Janice
and Samprit should understand the importance of gaining learning about mental illnesses along
with effective clinical practices in order to deal with effectively. It is necessary for selected
nursing students to make them understand of learning about mental health problems and relevant
strategies to improve condition of respective patients. Moreover, it is observed that Janice and
Samprit should learn about relevant health factors such as self-responsibility & love, breathing,

sensing, eating, moving, feeling, thinking, playing & working, communicating, intimacy, finding
meaning and transcending. It is required to learn about mental health dimensions including
intellectual, emotional, social, spiritual, vocational, and financial and environment for improving
complete psychological state of an individual (Delva, Lytvynenko and Delva, 2017).
In addition to this, it has been evaluated that it is very important for Janice and Samprit for learn
about ways of dealing with mental health patients because many times of some of people has
both physical as well as mental health problems. It includes the criterion of learning about more
effective as well as efficient strategies in order to manage the abnormal behaviour of
psychological patients to provide them appropriate treatment or medication regarding their
specific physical health issue. The mental health condition impact negatively to influence the
physical health condition of them due to which nurse must learn about to manage psychological
health problems effectively (Arrogante and Aparicio-Zaldivar, 2017). However, it is observed
that effective clinical ways and practices can be used to manage the non-cooperative behaviour
of mental patients while providing desired medication for improving physical health condition of
them. It involves the consideration of number of important factors about which nursing students
should learn including life satisfaction, positive affect, anxiety and depression that helps to
improve physical as well as psychological condition of them stable. Moreover, it has been
identified that appropriate care services and strategies should be learned so that violent or
abnormal behaviour of mental patient can be managed for providing desired medication to
improve physical health of them. The handling of mental patients is very difficult and important
tasks in order to provide appropriate treatment facilities to them to address their respective
physical health problem. Furthermore, the nursing students must understand about the favourable
and effective clinical techniques to manage patients with psychological issues to provide
accurate care.

connectedness & supportive relationships, hope, identity, formation of healthy coping strategies

and meaningful internal schema. It also contains several important elements like empowerment
& building a secure base, recovery from substance dependence and trauma informed recovery
(Font and Cage, 2018). Meanwhile, it has been identified that students nurse are required to learn
about basic of recovery model in order to use it effectively in clinical settings for gaining
improve patient outcomes. It involves the base of recovery model of care including that it is
possible to recover from a mental health condition and the most effective recovery is patient
directed respectively. This model can be considered as much potential because it is patient
centred approach which impact positively on treatment decision making to make an individual
completely well. It is favourable to reduce chance of clinical mistake while making decision of
treatment and facilitate to treat the particular health problem of a patient on the basis of their
specific health requirements accordingly. It will provide support to deliver better quality of care
which impact potentially on care plan and improve the health status of them. Moreover, the
recovery model of care should be learned and effective way of implementing the same in context
of clinical settings which facilitates to enhance the treatment outcomes. It will provide support to
make suitable decision of care facilities which impact positively to make patient wellbeing via
satisfying their respective medical needs.
On the other hand, it has been evaluated that Janice and Samprit should gain knowledge about
benefit of recovery model which is suitable to encourage them for adopting the same at the time
of providing desired care facilities for welfare of a diseased individual. It has number of features
for which nursing students become aware of form that some of them are given here. It includes
the criterion of managing or recovering from mental illness to make health choices that are
favourable to support physical and mental wellness (MacKinlay and Burns, 2017). It consist to
provide care at home which fulfil need of safe and table place to live. However, it is necessary to
fulfil the purpose of daily routine including school, work, family and community that are
essential at the time of recovery rocedure3s along with maintaining wellness. It involves the way
of supportive social relationships render individual with love, emotional availability and respect
that they need to survive as well as thrive. It is necessary for nursing students to learn about basic
principle of recovery model so that they can use it in effective manner. These principles state that
recovery is responsible for emerging from hope, it is should be person driven, it occurs via many
pathways and it should be holistic approach. It is supported by peers & allies, is supported via
relationship & social networks, is culturally based & influenced, is supported by address trauma,

it involves individual, family & community strengths and responsibility as well as it is based on
respect.

structured way to observe and describe present situation of an individual regarding their mind,
under domains of appearance, attitude, behaviour, mood, and affect, speech, thought process,
thought content, perception, cognition and insight. It is necessary to evaluate actual mental state
of patient so that problems can be prioritising to provide appropriate care services for their
wellbeing. It is necessary for nursing staff to carry out mental health examination with the help
of focussing on number of factors that is mentioned here. It includes study the level of
consciousness, appearance & general behaviour, speech & motor activity, affect & mood,
thought & perception, attitude & insight, examiner’s reaction to the patient and structured
examination of cognitive abilities. It is favourable to understand the severe, mild and moderate
symptoms of an individual according to which care plan can be formulated by prioritising these

From the above assignment, it has been concluded that nursing students are required to learn
about the effective ways of dealing with patients having physical and mental health problems. It
is necessary for them to learn different aspects of care providing so that they can work in
different medical settings. However, they have to work with patient to treat their physical health
issues who has psychological problem also. It involves the criterion of gaining knowledge about
different regulations and guidelines which facilitate deliver appropriate care services in order to
make an individual wellbeing respectively.
