According to the Alma-Ata declaration, primary health care comprises of various elements
which are designed to improve and promote better health to all people in the world. The elements
include promoting food supply and proper nutrition, adequate supply of safe water, education
concerning prevailing health problem and provision of essential drugs.
Promoting food supply by the government will help to eradicate deficiency diseases in the
country. Safe water for consumption is essential in preventing various water-borne disease like
cholera. Drugs will help to cure and prevent disease outbreak in the country and lastly, education
services will create awareness to the members of the public on how they can live a healthy life.

Comprehensive primary healthcare is an approach that cares for the whole patient’s needs
that is both medical and physical needs while selective primary health care is concerned with the
cost-effectiveness of vertical health program with measurable outcomes.
Comprehensive primary health includes health promotion to patients while selective primary
health care includes short term health care programs to the selected individuals.

National healthcare strategic framework is an agreed approach by different states to work
together to better health care services across those states.
In Australia, one of the national vision form primary health care is keeping people healthy. This
vision will drive some of the set health objectives by the government to achieve the vision hence
contributing to better health among the citizens.
The second vision is identified as preventing illness among the citizens. This will be possible
through educating the people on the safety practices which will not predispose them to illness.

Social health determinants and the primary health care relates in such a way that the two
approaches are complementary in reducing health inequities in society. Social health determinant
