1NURSING ASSIGNMENT The definition of health promotion activity is the process of making the people aware to take a control over their health and improve the conditions of their health. It takes into account the population as a whole by considering their everyday life inspite of focussing on only the people who are at the risk of specific diseases. The health promotion activities towards the action on the particular determinants or the causes of the health (Nobleet al. 2015). There are four core elements which are related to the health promotion activities which includes the prevention of different diseases, any kind of injury or illness, any kind of health development and development of parenting skills, providing of support which build up and increases the confidence level of those who are suffering from health issues (Warburton and Bredin 2016).The other core area is the development of community capacity building. The purpose of this assignment is develop a health promotion activity for a mental health patient who is addicted to alcohol. The case study given is about a Caucasian lady who is 59 years old, originally belonging from Holland. She has been admitted to the hospital under the act of mental health. She has been diagnosed with continuous depressive disorder and presently she is under the treatment of doctor. In the present case scenario, she was brought to the hospital by her husband and her son after they had noticed that she has undergone marked changes in her behaviour. They told the doctors that since the last two days has not taken olanzapine. The patient was looking very anxious and agitated and was continuously expressing expressions of guilt. She used to think herself to be a very bad person and was obviously going to hell. Though she was not showing any signs of suicidal thoughts but due to her sudden mood changes this may happen. When the patient use to drink alcohol a lot she used to think a lot about suicides as her grandfather also committed suicide but never attempted for a suicide. She was also losing weight may be because of excessive drinking and not taking proper foods. Even her medical history shows that she dropped

The patient was already suffering from mental issues so it is really difficult for her to understand everything that was told to him. The leaflet is required to produce for the purpose of making the patient understand about the need to leave the habit of drinking and to take proper medicines so that she can get cured of the mental diseases from which she is suffering (Afshinet al.2016). The colour of the leaflet is green and it has been made by using proper fonts and styles so that she can understand each and every words properly. Different pictures have also been used in the leaflet so that the patient find interest in reading the leaflet and also can follow all the procedures that are written in the leaflet. The leaflet contains in details what needs to be done in order to leave the consumption of alcohol. The leaflet has been prepared particularly for the patient, considering her age, lifestyle and the medicines that she is undertaking. The leaflet has been made colourful considering every conditions of the patient. The patient can be cured only if she gets proper support from the doctors, physicians and nurses. In this health promotion assignment, the health promotion activity must be against excessive drinking of alcohol. The health promotion activity includes different steps. The steps are managing the planning process, conducting a situational assessment, identifying the goals, population of interests, outcomes and the objectives of the outcomes, identifying the strategies, activities, outputs, objectives of the processes and resources, developing of the indicators, review the programme plan (Blueet al. 2016). The patient is alcohol addicted, so the health promotion has been prepared for an alcohol addicted person. The leaflet has been prepared in such a way that the patient finds interest in reading the leaflet. The message that is delivered in the leaflet is all about how to reduce the alcohol consumption. The leaflet is completely a personalised, which

The health promotion activity has been made especially for the patient (Langfordet al.2015).The health promotion activity has been arranged in the hospital in a very confidential way as this health promotion is a personalised one. The preparation of the health promotion involve the management of the hospital and the family members of the patient apart from the only involvement of the patient. The first step of the health promotion activity is to manage the planning process (Gautam, Bhatta and Aryal 2015).A proper plan must be made which must involve the stakeholders including the staffs and the members of the hospital in an effective way. The data required in step should be recorded and a clear decision making process should be established (Payneet al. 2015).The next step is the conduction of a situational assessment, in this case the situation of the patient should be assessed properly as this is completely a person centred health promotion activity. In this step the important matters to be considered are what conditions can make the conditions of the patients better and what conditions can make the conditions worse. In the given case, the patient is suffering from mental issues because of excessivedrinking.Sopoliciesthatinvolvethebestpracticesofreducingthealcohol consumption were involved. The next important step is the identification of goal, population of interest and the objectives of the outcomes. The goal of this health promotion is to make the patient aware about the consumption of alcohol and to teach her how to reduce the consumption of alcohol (Pescudet al. 2015). In this case, the targeted population is the woman who is suffering from mental issues and the causes of the mental issues is the excessive consumption of alcohol. The expected outcomes are curing of the patient from the mental issues and also leaving the consumption of alcohol for leading a healthy life. In this case both of these strategies are involved, for providing the health education, no such organizations are involved. Only the management authorities of the hospital are involved for providing the health education. The doctors, nurses and the family members are responsible for maintaining a healthy and effective communication with the patient. The next step is the development of indicators, which involves for each and every outcomes and process objectives the intended results should be considered. An appropriate time must be there for observation of the result (Kelder, Hoelscher and Perry 2015). The indicators are used for determining the extent of the outcomes. In this given case, the patient had to be checked after the period of the treatment is over. This should be done to compare the health conditions after the treatment and before the treatment. The improvement in the conditions of health are required to be noted. The next step is the reviewing the plan of the whole programme (Kwanet al.2016).The purpose of this step is to clarify the contributions of each of its components to the objectives, identify the gaps, ensuring where there is adequate sources or not and ensure the consistency. It has to be measured that the strategies are contributing to the goals or the objectives (Leasureet al.2015).The ultimate message of this education is to curb the consumption of alcohol. There are several ways to curb or reduce the consumption of alcohol. The reduction in the consumption of alcohol can be done by following several steps. Firstly, the reasons for cutting down drinking must be noted. In this case the main reason of cutting down alcohol is mental illness. So the health promotion team must note it down for her (Michaelet al.2015). Setting a drinking goal and a dairy must be maintained to keep the records of drinking. The patient should never keep alcohol in his house. The patient must keep herself busy in other works or activities so that she can forget the practice of drinking.

Because of the excessive consumption of alcohol the person was avoiding her regular medicines. She was becoming weak day by day for not taking proper foods and medicines, even she was showing tendencies of attempting suicides. She thus needs an urgent health promotion, otherwise her health conditions would deteriorate. A patient who is already suffering from mental diseases will not understand any thin anything told to her, for this the leaflet was made so that it becomes easier for the patient to understand what he needs to do for reducing the consumption of alcohol and to lead a healthy life like other people.
