1NURSING ASSIGNMENT
The definition of health promotion activity is the process of making the people aware to
take a control over their health and improve the conditions of their health. It takes into account
the population as a whole by considering their everyday life inspite of focussing on only the
people who are at the risk of specific diseases. The health promotion activities towards the action
on the particular determinants or the causes of the health (Noble et al. 2015). There are four core
elements which are related to the health promotion activities which includes the prevention of
different diseases, any kind of injury or illness, any kind of health development and development
of parenting skills, providing of support which build up and increases the confidence level of
those who are suffering from health issues (Warburton and Bredin 2016). The other core area is
the development of community capacity building. The purpose of this assignment is develop a
health promotion activity for a mental health patient who is addicted to alcohol.
The case study given is about a Caucasian lady who is 59 years old, originally belonging
from Holland. She has been admitted to the hospital under the act of mental health. She has been
diagnosed with continuous depressive disorder and presently she is under the treatment of doctor.
In the present case scenario, she was brought to the hospital by her husband and her son after
they had noticed that she has undergone marked changes in her behaviour. They told the doctors
that since the last two days has not taken olanzapine. The patient was looking very anxious and
agitated and was continuously expressing expressions of guilt. She used to think herself to be a
very bad person and was obviously going to hell. Though she was not showing any signs of
suicidal thoughts but due to her sudden mood changes this may happen. When the patient use to
drink alcohol a lot she used to think a lot about suicides as her grandfather also committed
suicide but never attempted for a suicide. She was also losing weight may be because of
excessive drinking and not taking proper foods. Even her medical history shows that she dropped

her medicines in the fear that she will not be able to cope up with the medicines. Even her sexual
and mental abuse was also reported.
The patient was already suffering from mental issues so it is really difficult for her to
understand everything that was told to him. The leaflet is required to produce for the purpose of
making the patient understand about the need to leave the habit of drinking and to take proper
medicines so that she can get cured of the mental diseases from which she is suffering (Afshin et
al. 2016). The colour of the leaflet is green and it has been made by using proper fonts and styles
so that she can understand each and every words properly. Different pictures have also been used
in the leaflet so that the patient find interest in reading the leaflet and also can follow all the
procedures that are written in the leaflet. The leaflet contains in details what needs to be done in
order to leave the consumption of alcohol. The leaflet has been prepared particularly for the
patient, considering her age, lifestyle and the medicines that she is undertaking. The leaflet has
been made colourful considering every conditions of the patient. The patient can be cured only if
she gets proper support from the doctors, physicians and nurses.
In this health promotion assignment, the health promotion activity must be against
excessive drinking of alcohol. The health promotion activity includes different steps. The steps
are managing the planning process, conducting a situational assessment, identifying the goals,
population of interests, outcomes and the objectives of the outcomes, identifying the strategies,
activities, outputs, objectives of the processes and resources, developing of the indicators, review
the programme plan (Blue et al. 2016). The patient is alcohol addicted, so the health promotion
has been prepared for an alcohol addicted person. The leaflet has been prepared in such a way
that the patient finds interest in reading the leaflet. The message that is delivered in the leaflet is
all about how to reduce the alcohol consumption. The leaflet is completely a personalised, which
