1NURSING ASSIGNMENT ‘Nursing informatics is the technology which integrates the care process with information management strategies to identify and manage patient data’, this was my perception and knowledge about nursing informatics I had prior to this course. However, through this course I became aware of the influence this system had on nursing practice. As per McGonigle, Hunter, Sipes and Hebda (2014, p. 325), it is important for each nursing professional to understand the operations and strengths as well as limitations of the system so that implementation of the system becomes easier in the care process. This course and the detailed information about the use of informatics in this complex health environment have helped me to advance my knowledge rapidly. Therefore, this knowledge will further enhance my capability to manage patient information, decision making skills, ability to protect patient information so that delivery of competent and effective healthcare service could be achieved (McGonigle & Mastrian, 2015, p. 17).
