INTRODUCTION A registered nurse is a nurse who has graduated from college, university or any other education institution after going through a nursing training. These nurses must also have passed the national examination meant to examine their knowledge and capability in their expertise. Additionally, a registered nurse must have a met or rather achieved the requirements expected by a country’s, a state’s, province’s or any other authoritative body’s laws and regulations (Kirwan and Coyne, 2017). This means that for a nurse to be called a registered nurse, they must have graduated and must attain a license from these bodies to give them authority to practice their career or rather apply their skills anywhere. Registered nurses often work in hospitals or any other outpatient facilities. All Registered Nurses have certain common and specific roles and responsibilities to perform during their practice (Battie et al, 2014). To be specific, the main duty for nurses is basically to provide care for patients. Generally, nurses act as a helping hand for doctors. Some of the most common duties that nurses are responsible for include: ensuring effective communications with doctors, administering patient medications, keeping or documenting patient records, monitoring patient health condition regularly which means regular checkups (Matsumoto et al, 2014), helping patients by carrying out certain activities like vising the toilets, offering emotional and mental support to patients e.g. through engaging in professional healthy talks and conversations with them and washing as well as changing the patients’ beddings and clothing among other things (Bobay et al, 2009). All of these responsibilities are the ones that determine a patients’ recovery status, which means that nurses are the people that hold patient lives in their palm (Battie and Steelman, 2015). Nurses are basically the ones to determine how fast or slow a patient will recover or/and whether a patient will recover at all. Having been trained to provide care to their patients, nurses are basically expected to have certain skills and qualifications that make them unique for the job. The most common skills include the following: critical thinking, kindness, physical endurance, observation skills, effective and strong communication skills (Sheldon and Hilaire, 2015), empathy, effective planning skills and desire to help to name a few of them (Karen Tomajan, 2012). However, not every skill that can be learn through training, some of these skills are skills which these nurses are born with or rather are naturally given, e.g. empathy, kindness, compassionate, desire to learn, dedication and patience among others. The skills that most probably can be learnt through
training are: organizational skills, planning skills, critical thinking, excellent communication skills, effective judgment and decision making choices, efficient leadership skills, flexibility to name a few. All of these skills are used to ensure that nurses hired for certain jobs are up for it and that they are capable of providing the best quality service expected. In other words, registered nurses should ensure that they have offered the best quality care by utilizing every skill, knowledge and experience they can (Kelly, 2017), i.e. basically ensuring human live safety. Common duties of a nurse Patient observations It is the role and responsibility of a registered nurse to be always well updated and aware of their patient’s health condition. This can be achieved by making sure that the patient is frequently checked, observed and assessed. The nurses are responsible for taking body temperature readings, patient blood sugar levels, breathing rates, blood pressure levelsand heart rates to name a few measurements (Epstein and Turner, 2015). By doing this, the nurse will be get the opportunity to notice any changes in their health and hence get a better opportunity to save the patient’s live in case their health condition worsens. Patient engagement The nurses should ensure that their patients are well engaged but in a professional way. They should use their skills and knowledge to create some conversation with patients. These kind of documents are just meant to act as a back-up or rather a certification that the applicant surely received or attained all the grades, levels and certifications mentioned in the curriculum vitae. Some of these documents include: things like school results or grade transcripts, actual hard copies of the certificates, awards and honors certifications, professional membership evidence among others. Therefore, in that case, the applicant is supposed to scanned all these documents and attach them to the curriculum vitae at the time of submitting he application. Besides scanning and attaching them on their own, the applicant can also arrange for these documents to be sent to the organization fromtheirvarioussourcesviaemail.However,thisiscertainlymakestheworkmore complicated if the job application requires hard copy documents, whereby the applicant is then required to just make copies of the original documents rather than scan them. On the contrary, in case the job application is online or through the internet, the applicant should therefore ensure that these documents are scanned and sent as attachment together with the cover letter of the job application. It is important to note that, the applicant should ensure that these documents cover all academic work especially one that was completed recently. CONCLUSION From the research, I can conclude that nurses are some of the most important people involved in every patient’s life. Registered Nurses must be able to pass through a number of yea’s training
and education system which is meant to prepare them for their sole purpose, which is caring for patients. Registered Nurses can be found in various places like outpatient facilities, hospital admission rooms, patient administration rooms, intensive care units (ICU’s), operating rooms, recovering patient rooms to name a few. Apart from having a sole purpose and aim for their training, these nurses also have several roles and responsibilities allocated to them in their places of work. However, each and every role is basically and entirely focused on ensuring patient safety and live saving procedures by taking care of the patients. To add to that, the nursing profession in the world, is governed by certain rules that lead directly to the sole purpose and aim for training nurses. Generally, the ethical standards that govern registered nurses drive these nurses towards achieving their main goal and objective which is to provide quality care for the patients and ensuring patient safety at all times. Furthermore, besides the ethical standards and code of ethics, the Registered Nurses are also supposed to follow certain principles that are put in place all the medical procedures in the world, especially in United Kingdom. These standards also play the same role as the code of ethics hence ensuring patient safety through quality care provision. In United Kingdom, the body that sets and regulates such ethical standards is the Nursing and Midwife Council. This council is supposed to indicate the code of ethics expected to be obeyed by the nurses, midwives, doctors, surgeons or any other public health service practitioner. The student in this case is applying for a job as a registered nurse in a hospital in United Kingdom. Therefore, it is important for them to be aware of the competition levels in United Kingdom especially in the medical sector. This student has given his curriculum vitae which certainly fails to indicate other formal requirements for the job e.g. licensure and certifications, common and most required skill in the job type, their professional memberships and their main objectives. These are some of the most required aspects that a potential employee need to see in a nurse’s curriculum vitae. Additionally, these are some of the most effective and efficient unique aspects that a person can have and that can help a nurse to get a job, especially a nursing job.
