Annotated Bibliography
Anaker, A., & Elf, M. (2014). Sustainability in Nursing: a concept analysis. Scandinavian
journal of caring sciences, 28(2), 381-389.
Summary
This reading aims to explore, describe as well as explain the insight of sustainability within the
field of nursing. In the global communities, the s sustainability have developed as a broadly used
perception which is integrated in the discussions of by what means the health care systems must
be considered in the future. It has been argued by World Health Organization (WHO) that the
current climate change can impact the capability for maintaining better health, and, thus, the
health care systems must seriously consider climatic changes as well as its consequences. As a
result, working for sustainable developments are vital for the healthcare industry and for the
societies in general.
The authors have argued that the perception of sustainability in the field of nursing is ambiguous
and underexplored and have not been conceptualized. It has been stated by International Council
of Nursing that the sustainable developments are connected with delivering frameworks where
societies, people and groups can access the opportunities as well as resources and use their rights
for creating infrastructures for promoting healthy societies Therefore, sustainable developments
are the circumstances which enable people for meeting the present requirements without
compromising. The nursing employees must support actions for reducing climatic changes and
global warming along with their impacts on healthcare.
Commentary
The topic is relevant to the reading since the reading has explored, described and explained the
perception of sustainability in the field of nursing. The nurses are conscious of the healthcare
concerns of climatic changes and so they need to evaluate and address the following health risks.
They are responsible to engage in global health problems, but only limited researches are
available from the perspective of sustainability, thus, appropriate empirical and theoretical
researches are essential. There is a need of radical change in nursing education for meeting the
new needs associated with climatic changes and require sustainability program in nursing
education.
